Derek Fisher Continues to Haunt Utah Jazz Fans

Jazz fans are some of the most verbally abusive sports fans anywhere, something D-Fish knows about all too well. Unfortunately for the folks in Utah, this seems to serve as a form of motivation for the Laker point guard. Yahoo! reports: “Derek Fisher found a picture from a playoff game against the Utah Jazz on the Internet earlier this year. Fisher isn’t certain during which Los Angeles Lakers game the photo was taken, but he knows what it shows: As the former Jazz guard attempts to shoot a free throw in Salt Lake City, a fan behind the basket covers his left eye to taunt him. Fisher also knew what the photo meant. The fan was mocking his young daughter, Tatum, who had cancer in her left eye. Fisher left the Jazz in the summer of 2007 to return to the Lakers so his daughter could receive what he considered was the best medical care available. ‘It’s crazy,’ Fisher said of the picture. ‘It really is.’ Fisher wasn’t greeted too warmly when he entered EnergySolutions Arena Saturday night. The Jazz fans booed him strongly when he was introduced, chanted “Fisher sucks!” during the game and cited his daughter during their trash talk. Fisher heard it all, and he once signaled to the crowd to keep bringing it as he walked to the bench. Fisher, as he has so often done during his career, also got the last laugh. His 3-pointer with 28.6 seconds left proved to be the go-ahead basket as the Lakers beat the Jazz 111-110 to take a 3-0 lead in the series. ‘I just have taken what’s thrown at me. Just try to concentrate on playing basketball,’ said Fisher, who scored 20 points in the Lakers’ win. ‘It’s very personal. Obviously, it’s personal for them. It’s personal for me. The best way to respond to it is to make sure we win.”’

    What kind of sick people do that sort of thing? Have some class, Utah. For God’s sake. Fisher shut them up, though. Can’t really talk when you’ve got ZERO titles to your name. Fish can hold up four fingers with rings on them, four more than the entire Jazz organization combined. Keep taunting the Lakers, Utah. Have fun losing to them again.

    Maybe instead of generalizing the entire fanbase, you should all (especially you Slam) remember that it was one person that did that. It was definitely wrong and uncalled for, but good lord, someone writes this exact article every time the two teams play each other. Utah Jazz fans hate the Lakers.
    Derek Fisher is a Laker. Do the math. It’s got much less to do with him leaving than everyone thinks.
    Furthermore, what true basktetball fan would want that guy on their team? He’s got to be the slowest, worst defensive pg in the NBA. That’s all beside the point.

    The Jazz fans can continue their booing. You will never win a Championship. That comes straight from Los Angeles baby. While the Lakers are winning, the Jazz will be fishing again. One more thing…Yeah the Jazz fans are quite loud but so is a crying baby…Get over it.

    Sure it was pretty classless of ONE fan to do this. But it was ONE fan, so stop saying Jazz fans are classless. Fisher is super classy and I have the utmost respect for him. Game 5 vs Golden St will always be in my memory. The only thing thats always bothered me is that his daughter was seeking treatment in New York all of 2007. Why did he suddenly go to LA ?

F*ck that kind of behaviour; there’s absolutely no need for it anywhere in the WORLD, much less sports. I like the Jazz, but that has no bearing on idiotic fans like that, which I’m sure exist everywhere.

    A horrible thing to do, but as bad as it is, College Basketball is worse. (The Steve Kerr incident was already brought up). Euroleague is worse (heated pennys, firecrackers, etc. make it dangerous to play). Let’s not kill the state of Utah because a guy wasn’t hugged enough as a child.
    And Fisher’s responses are the stuff class is made of. I’m actually going to let his illegal game winner over my Spurs (clock started late) be water under the bridge now. Well done Fish!!

    sorry, but the majority of jazz fans are classless. they’ve done all kinds of stupid things to the warriors; throwing the n-word around when j-rich dove out of bounds to save a ball, throwing things onto the court during the warriors v jazz 2nd round playoff game, someone blowing a whistle during a warrior game loud enough to have all the players stop. and that’s just the examples i can think of off the top of my head, and ONLY toward the warriors.

    wow I’ve finally came into a realisation of why I’ve always hated the Jazz – I couldn’t figure it out then but now I know it wasn’t because of the players! I’m not a big fan of the Lakers either but damnnnn… I’m glad they’ve won the series – clean sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

    Horrible thing to do. But i bet some of the guys who’ve played in Greece, Spain or Turkey (or any other b-ball crazy Euro-country) can sing a song of woe regarding fan behavior. I once got clocked by a cigarette in (fairly) mild mannered Germany, and when i watch the Greek powerhouses play, players have to be worried about the occasional laser pointer been aimed at their eyes. Won’t even get into the racial slurs.

    It wasn’t just ONE guy, it was just ONE guy caught doing it. How about the fans wearing the “Fisher Lied” tshirts? I’m not saying its all Utah fans, but you wouldnt stand by and allow someone get to get verbally abused in public about their disability, the same way the Utah fans shouldnt have stood by and let their fans act the way they did.

    Fisher is a fraud… and the worst kind. There may be a layer of truth behind his hypocrisy which he has worked very hard to have spun his way in the media. The fact is Larry Miller was a soft-hearted man (note him crying all the time about his relationship with the mailman), and Fisher leveraged that knowledge to get an UNCONDITIONAL release…. no consideration. This is extremely rare in sports. The Jazz then went to have virtually no veteran leadership and downgraded to Ronny Price as back-up point guard. Fisher magically has a contract deal DONE in LA in 2 days with our biggest rivals and proceeds to orchestrate knocking us out of the playoffs the next 3 years. His wife hated it here and he didn’t want to end his career as a back-up point guard and he conveniently used a crisis to accomplish that agenda. The Huntsman Cancer Institute is a fine facility and according to my knowledge, they have continued to fly to New York for treatment. Salt Lake is a shorter direct flight, people. If his daughter was the issue… then retire and take care of her… don’t manipulate the sister. Fisher is a fraud and his comment about “being applauded because he moved to a different department within a construction company” shows how ignorant he really is.

    Philadelphia always gets the attention for crossing the line but when this happens in boring Utah, it is rarely discussed. Those fans are disgusting and should be ashamed of themselves. Where’s the uproar? IF this was Philly we’d be hearing how evil we are and how low our character is. Give me a break.

    I agree that it is not right to bring a child into this but it was Fisher who brought this on himself, if anyone remembers he wanted to leave to be closer to his daughter, what I don’t understand is she was being treated in New York so why did he go to the Lakers. So yes Jazz fans are classless but so is Fisher!
