Evans, Curry, Prince, Green Named to USA Basketball

The 2010-12 USA Men’s National Team roster is now at 31 players: “‘The addition of Tayshaun, Jeff, Stephen and Tyreke to our national team roster adds additional veteran experience, versatility, and young talent,’ said USA and Duke University head coach Mike Krzyzewski. ‘Although we have a number of players who were members of the 2006-08 national team returning to the 2010-12 national team pool, we are beginning a new selection and team building process and I believe the addition of these four players will help strengthen our national team program in several areas over the next three years.’”

No offense, but Jeff Green sucks.

  • PlanetAsia14

Na man, dude can ball. He just plays with Durant.

  • Andrew

Umm did they forget about that kid from milwaukee?

  • MikeC.

@T-Money: I wouldn’t say Green sucks. He’s definitely not a star, or even a go-to guy. He’s like a Swiss Army knife. He can do just about everything, but he’s not great at anything. He’s one of those guys, like Tayshaun Prince, that USA Basketball can take to the World Championships, or Olympics, and not worry about him pissing and moaning over minutes or shot attempts. When he does get some PT, he’ll hit the boards, move the ball, play tough D and work hard. Can’t ask for much more from the guy on the end of the bench. He wouldn’t be the worst Olympian of all time. That honor goes to Christian Laettner. How the frig did he make the first Dream Team over Shaq or Zo? Did they need him to fill out an ‘awkward white guy’ quota?

@Andrew – I’m not sure if Jennings would play well or not with the FIBA rules. He didn’t do so well playing pro in Italy, but that likely had more to do with the coach not wanting to invest a lot of effort and minutes into a kid that was going to leave tread marks on his way out after one season. If Jennings tightens up his jumper, he’d be great because he’s so fast, makes solid decisions on the run, and, against all odds, doesn’t seem to have a huge ego. The FIBA rules require a team to have guards that can space the floor with deep shooting. I don’t think Jennings is there yet. Curry is a lock to be on the London team as long as he doesn’t go joy-riding on Monta’s moped this summer.

@Andrew, because they already have like 11 point guards. They probably took curry over him because he has a better outside shot which is important in international play. They probably took Evans because he’s a bigger body that creates mismatches.

Kind of shocked by prince though. I feel like there are enough good defenders on the team where you don’t need to include prince just for his defense…and pretty much every player on the roster is a betetr offensive player. Don’t really see what he brings to the table that you don’t already have. Plus he’s older so its not like he’ sincluded just to be molded for future teams.

Jeff Green is really good.If he can develop a consistent jump shot he’ll become what Marvin Williams was supposed to be.

  • David Emmanuelle Castillo

Jeff Green DOES NOT SUCK. He just had a really mediocre season this year. Plus KD and Russ were mad balling this year. I would definitely have to agree with Jake, except that he just needs to develop his overall game a lil bit more. Let me remind people that John Thompson III said that Jeff Green was by far the smartest and best player that he has ever coached. Hopefully over this off season he works on his game and shows critics that he NBA All Star worthy.

jeff green already plays out of position, probably would do better in international play where the four is less of a power position.

well MikeC, zo and shaq dot drafted a couple of months prior to the olympics, so they didnt even suit up to play ever in an nba game, let alone be selected for the national team right outta college.

i think its pretty solid that these players were selected, jeff green has to be the versatility that Coach k was talkin bout.

There’s no chance Jennings makes the roster of 12, but I agree, he would’ve been a good addition.

… and I’m fairly certain none of these players will be representing the US come the ’12 Olympics. Possibly Curry, for his deft range.

Tayshaun Evans, Jeff Curry, Stephen Prince and Tyreke Green! arf

  • Young C

When I first saw green, I automatically thought of Gerald Green! i don’t know why though. Lol.

Prince may be MIA in 2 years if Detroit keeps their nonsense up

  • engel

i thought it was eddy curry haha

  • karon

Man they added two rookies and not one of them is jennings. People always diss Jennings out of those rookies he’s the only one who went to the playoffs they probaly aren’t even going to get any play time

  • http://slamonline.com niQ

Steph Curry has crazy range. He will probably start shooting from half court… with his eyes closed.. with his off-hand.. Okay maybe not, but still..

  • J

Jeff Green does not suck. i think he could very well be the like of Antawn Jamison.

  • whitey

why would you put 2 rookies on an olympic team its just stupid they should be trying to recruit more experienced players

Marvin Williams was meant to be a more atheltic, superior Jamison. He wasn’t, and never will be.
Jeff Green won’t ever be better thatn Jamison, but he has the potential to be just as good.

  • Atrain

    Prince and Perkins are headscratchers

Marvin Williams should not be invited

Steph Curry is a star in making. He answered all the questions about whether he can play the point. He is beginning to remind me of young Zeke when he started playing for Pistons. He will definately make the team. The played like a pure point guard this season and he is money from long range. If I have to pick that only one of these guys make the team I have to go with Curry

  • Shuttlesworth

    Jennings >>>

  • I’m Not Famous

@Niq you forgot to add “backwards”

  • J

if someone has to make the team, it’s KD. and i say give others a chance. to those who will be picked hopefully they perform well and win it all.
