Grant Hill Would Like To Play Until He’s 40

As FanHouse first reported: “In an interview with FanHouse before Friday’s Game 3 of West semifinal at San Antonio, Hill, 37, said he won’t opt out of his contract this summer and he might just play until he’s 40. ’Oh yeah,’ Hill, who is making $3 million this season and has a player option next season for $3.24 million, said after the morning shootaround at the AT&T Center. ‘I don’t plan on opting out. Even after this [contract], if I can still play and still play at this level, I still want to be here. I want to retire as a Sun. … I don’t have any interest in moving. I’d like to prove that I can play until I’m 40. That would be nice. But I’m not going to play if I can’t play at a level that I expect. Obviously, I’m not what I was 10 years ago. But I can still contribute and not be a liability. If I’m a liability, it’s time to move away, and I’ll move away. But, if I’ve still got it physically and I still have it up here, mentally and emotionally and I have that desire, yeah, I’ll play another two or three years.”’

From most players you’d read this as bragadaccio or greed for as much career cash as possible, it’s a credit to him that you instinctively take it at face value.

I hope he can. I still don’t understand why the Gods robbed us of the latter halves of Penny and Grant’s All-NBA careers.

After all of his injuries. He has continued to take good care of his body and become a pretty good role player. I can see him playing until hes 40. but probably not as a starter.

i’d love to see grant keep playing, and i see no reason why he wouldn’t be an asset to his team for another few years. besides that, he is an absolute class act, and you’ve gotta love that he’s amped up his defense. @LA Huey: yeah, Penny and Grant were really amazing players, and i fear that people just getting into basketball today will know them only for the latter halves of their careers. so sad. people don’t realize how much of a precursor he was to lebron.

I wish Hill all the best, he is the only reason I like the Suns.

Grant was, and still is, my favorite player. Copped the Filas wayback then, even got Hyperizes this year merely because of him. Phoenix is my team in the playoffs this year, not the typical Cavs/Magic/Lakers selection, although I must say I’m a bit surprised at the success rate of the Suns in the 2nd round, so I hope they keep going and just basically win the whole thing…Go Suns!

Hill fits nicely into the Suns system. He may not be the prolific wing he wass 10 years ago, but he spreads the floor, hits jumpers and makes smart plays. I’m routing for Phoenix to win it this year.. doubt they will though

Grant Hill! Anyone remember how he put Fila Shoes & sprite on his back? How Penny Hardaway’s lil Penny puppet paved the way for the Lebron & Kobe Puppet commercials? Anyhow, yes Hill was injured and sidelined for quite a few years…but how many guys do you know of his caliber that will actually go through rehab after rehab for years & years just to come back and play as a role player for $3 mil a year? This man is a great ambassador for the league and the game of basketball. If you can take care of his body until he’s 40, which I’m sure he will…we’ll still be seeing Hill come in from help side to make that key steal, block, or deflection. Okay, I’m gonna go Youtube some of this man’s Piston days…incredible!

I think he can do it, especially if Nash sticks around and makes the game easier for him PLUS he is in OPHX where they have that magic healing water next to the fountain of youth…Hill & Allen could play until they are 42. Good luck to him

nba needs a comeback player of the year award

  • Robb Posted: May.10 at 7:30 pm
Of all the NBA players I respect Grant Hill the most. He never gave up, never, the man’s just unbelievable. I agree with mems. The NBA should have an award named after Hill. This guy is pure class.

Grant Hill is one of the few duke players that I love (Carlos Boozer and Trajan Langdon). Hill is just a class act. Great gene pool and heluva dude. I love that he took the Fila shoe contract. What happened to Fila. Strate Hood
