Inside Eddy Curry’s Debt Woes

Curry can’t afford to pay his bills, and has defaulted on a large personal loan. The NY Post has the details: “Knicks center Eddy Curry defaulted on a $570,000 personal loan while keeping up a lifestyle that included a $17,000-a-month suburban New York home, a $6,000-a-month personal chef, and a dozen cars he’d bought for himself and relatives, a judge said. Friday, a Manhattan court ordered Curry to pay $75,000 a month to lender Allstar Capital Inc. to resolve a debt that swelled to $1.2 million with interest. The court also has issued an order letting Las Vegas-based Allstar seize three of the cars: a Rolls Royce Phantom convertible and two Land Rover SUVs, all 2009 models. Lawyers for both Curry and Allstar said Monday they were headed toward a settlement that would make the order moot. They wouldn’t disclose terms. Curry’s lawyer, Mercedes Colvin, would say only that she believed the two sides had reached ‘a mutually satisfactory resolution of the matter.’ Curry earned $10.5 million this season and is scheduled to make $11.3 million next season in the final year of his contract. But the former No. 4 pick in the NBA Draft has been dogged by financial and legal problems in recent years.”

Maybe he would handle money better if had went to college…

  • http://slamonline.com Yknot

No sympathy for someone who has squandered more money in one year, than most Americans will see in a lifetime.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Dozen cars… when will NBA players realize the money (or anything for that matter) is not forever.

  • The Philosopher

    @Yknot: Agreed.

  • Ian

man it must be tough tryin to get by on only 11 mill a year…what an idiot

  • neaorin

LOL @ 85 percent annual interest loan. I guess Curry knows people in the mob.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Shoulda bought less cars and gotten a nutritionist and a personal trainer, at least then he’d be using his money on something he could actually benefit from. Dude is unbelieveable. So glad he’s not in the Chi anymore (at least not playing, anyways) hope y’all are happy with him, NY….and thanks for Joakim Noah

  • Brian

I don’t think it is the cars per se that are causing Curry’s financial problems, but rather the men he likes to hire to drive them for him.

  • LB

Who is his personal chef? Colonel Sanders?? Eddy, we wanted you to get a Double Double…NOT a Double Down. Send this guy packing once and for all.

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

    “Come and touch it, Dave.”

  • Murphy

its hard not to hate on the guy, hes not the greatest talent wise, and he lacks determination. maybe if he played w/ more aggresion and heart he’d have a bigger contract and make more $ so he wouldnt git in debt. when the money stops comin in and the team offers git ssmaller that means u mite wanna cut back on spendin.

  • bdub

Absolute chump. He must be stoked that he is earning 11 mill for being a muppet.

  • rich

LB’s comment made my day lol

god bless eddy curry… he needs it

Am I the only one amazed that dude has a US$ 6,000 chef and is still overweight?

  • K Boogie 201

For 6 stacks a month,I’d cook him whatever he wants.

  • T-Money

Funny thing is I’m sure if someone had told that story to Curry when he was still broke he would have laughed at the guy and calle him a fool. You never really know how you’re going to act until you got it.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I just read elsewhere that he originally took out the loan on an 85% interest rate! EIGHTY-FIVE PERCENT! What an idiot! You should’ve gone to DePaul and taken some economics or personal finance classes back in the day, Eddy!

  • Hersey

LB wins with that comment. This reminds me of the crazy info about lottery winners going bankrupt.

  • B

    LB. hahaha

  • vtrobot

    disgusting, in so many ways.

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

He is extremely bad with money, but he has had bad personal problems too. The home invasion, his girl ,maybe ex, getting killed. Also, very funny first comment. Maybe philosopher would write better if had went to college. Haha, rag on someone for not going to college, then have that sort of grammar?! 3 fingers back at you dummy

I feel no sympathy for this man AT ALL or any of te other athletes who get themselves into debt or bankruptcy. The amount of money you are making you should nevr have these problems. • The Philosopher

@Tarzan Cooper: You’re right about the grammatical error. But, I didn’t rag on Eddy Curry for not going to a college. I stated that if he had went to college, he maybe would have better control over his money. Your statement is grammatically incorrect, also. You didn’t put a period or exclamation point after dummy…does that make you a dummy, also? I think it does, so we DO have SOMETHING in common!!!!

  • The Philosopher

@Tarzan Cooper: Oh, and,you FAILED to place a comma after the word “you” while you were trying to call me a dummy. So, that means you are actually dumber than me.

  • The Philosopher

@Tarzan Cooper: AND when you were talking about Curry’s girl, your comma is misplaced. But, I understand your ambition to try and clown The Philosopher. I just respect the FACT that you, along with others, pay THAT much attention to my statements.

  • The Philosopher

Not trying to troll or humiliate anyone, but Tarzan Cooper’s ENTIRE statement @3:37p.m. was grammatically flawed. My bad, SLAM.

  • AL29

He and Antoine Walker would be a devastating front court.

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

Philosopher is a turdburglar. My commas in the sentence about his girl are not misplaced. There is no need for a comma between you and dummy as there is no pause. However, I should have placed an exclamation point after dummy. Do not flatter yourself. If it wasnt the first comment, I probably would not have noticed. By the way, you should never start a sentence with the word ‘and’. Also, I find it very funny that you spent 21 minutes searching for grammatical errors just to talk siht on here.

  • Diesel

@Tarzan – its not the philospher’s fault. He gets all dizzy and confused if he has to type anything other than “Lebron is The King”. As for Curry – I read in another article that he spends $1,000 a month on cable bills??? What the hell is he watching? That’s what happens when you support 30 freeloaders I guess.

  • The Philosopher

21 minutes??!! Is THAT all you have???!!! Within those 21 minutes THAT YOU TOOK TIME TO CALCULATE, I was ACTUALLY doing other things with my life. You know, I go back and forth. Your commas WERE misplaced @3:37pm. Check when you were talking about his ex – girlfriend. I use and at the beginning of sentences (which is wrong) because I feel like it. I like turdburglar, though. I’m going to start using it. I’m going use your slang.

  • The Philosopher

@Tarzan Cooper: And as far as flattering myself, I don’t have to do that, for you and Diesel flatter me with all the attention you give me. Seriously, I appreciate it from the depths of my being.

  • Diesel

I flatter everyone that posts here casue I read every post…even the dumb ones.

  • Mr. Robinson

Tarzan – your 3:37 comment WAS f***ed up when you were talking about his ex girl getting killed! The comma is too close to the word maybe. Philosopher wins again. Y’all keep lettin this dude clown y’all!!!!

  • The Philosopher

@Diesel: That means you read YOUR OWN posts quite often.

  • The Philosopher

@Diesel: I seriously doubt that you flatter everyone that posts here. You are flattering yourself. Should I call you a turdburglar????

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Are y’all seriously arguing over proper grammar on the internet? Your heads must explode everytime you guys read YouTube comments! Sadly, this is a lot more entertaining that my job so please continue.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    *than my job

  • LB

Eddy Curry has just racked up another 50K in debt during this grammar discussion.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

    His lawyers name is Mercedes!

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

Phil, the depth of your stupidity is astounding. My commas were just fine, except as mr robinson noted, there should be a lil space in there. However, thats not what you said phil. I dont want to know the other things you did. They probably involved your fist, a jar of vaseline, and your first cousin. If youre into cornholing, go ahead, you dont need to tell us. Diesel, I noticed the cable bill too. Maybe they ordered every single movie and ppv event available. Some people just dont know how to handle too much money

  • The Philosopher

Oh,and LeBron is The… nevermind. Ha ha! Turdburgler!!! That is the coolest thing I’ve ever heard in my natural life!!!

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

Mike nz, I saw that. I wonder what she looks like. I bet either some supersexy caramel rican, or a 54 yr old who used to be like that.

  • gani

how does someone fall into debt when he’s earning $10 million a year?

  • The Philosopher

@Tarzan Cooper: So, I WAS right about the commas and Curry’s girl. (which I, along with the whole world already knew.) When talking about his ex, you put a comma there (after the word ‘ex’) when there wasn’t supposed to be also, and I DID state that, (check my 5:45p.m. comment) but… I totally understand, for as I’ve said on numerous occasions, the truth is very distressing to some folks, and for Tarzan Cooper, this truth (him being called out about his grammatical stupidity) makes him procure rhetoric concerning cornholing, vaseline, and incest. If what I state on SLAM makes you think THOSE things…you have a bigger issue than just grammatical ineptitude.

  • The Philosopher

Tarzan: Damn it, your 6:47p.m. comment was grammatically incorrect, too. By the way you’re sounding today, you calling me a dummy is an act of hypocrisy on your part..

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

Come and Touch It, Dave was the name of one of my fantasy basketball teams.
I’ve had a lot of sympathy for some of the harder things that have happened to this guy… but it’s hard to really feel for him when something like this happens. I can’t believe he’s making 10 million this year and can’t pay his bills. That is astronomical.

  • matt

whenever entourage is on i’m always yelling at vinny to save his money and quit spending so much. he never does. this is like that, but eventually the cash will really stop coming in.

  • Steve

@Tarzan Cooper: Give it up, man. Philosopher got you today. Your comments as well as many comments are messed up when it come to gramar

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

Reading The Philosopher and Tarzan arguing is pretty much the anti-special olympics. No one wins.

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

I’m sorry, but 85% income rate sounds absolutely mind booglingly illegal. That’s usery right there. I have to read up on this.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

Agreed. And I was going to say that before… no way the 85% thing is legal, right??

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

Okay, here’s the skinny: This isn’t a bank, but some sort of private organization that loaned him this money, so it avoids federal laws and limitations. The only Allstar Capital Inc I can find is one that’s based in China, and its main purpose is to sponsor gigantic business organizations— so I guess it’s plausible that he took a loan from an American branch of this corporation, even though that’s not REALLLLLY the company’s purpose.
    Still seems like usury, though!
Not in Nevada— apparently there are NO LIMITATIONS on interest rates in loans… any other state, this thing would be illegal and thrown out of court, but the home of Las Vegas can apparently get away with something like this. Either Curry took out a loan from a Nevada branch of this international organization, or there’s some sort of high-interest private loan operation going on in Nevada with the same name. Either way, I can’t fathom how bad Curry’s credit is that he had to get a loan from a shady organization on the other side of the US. At least they just took his cars legally and didn’t break his legs.
Curry’s “excuses” as to why he can’t pay his money are pitiful… his claims is that he can’t pay back the loan because of his other financial needs… which, unfortunately, isn’t really a legal excuse; more like justification for bankruptcy, which Curry isn’t doing (and at this point would probably be the smartest thing to do, to try and freeze the interest).
BONUS INFO: one of the ‘expenses’ he has is a 350,000 bill to Juwan Howard… unexplained… surreal, right?

Actually the debt was in Vegas and 85% is unfortunately legal. However he makes enough it should of been paid off not allowed to increase substantially. Soon he will be featured at Burger Jpint close to you as the star flipper.

  • Simmy Sosa

(Crying like T.O.) You can talk about Tarzan’s grammar…his comma placement…but if ya’ll do that it ain’t fair…cuz thats my teammate…thats my quarterback…lol
