Kobe Bryant’s Stylist Explains the Pictures

Mamba’s style guy tells the LA Times that the look they were going for here, was a mix of Tupac and Epic Fail. Or something to that effect: “Kobe was amazing to work with because he was cool with everything. He trusted us. We took a picture and he liked it so we kept going. We wanted to do a picture with a hat because the photographer wanted to do everything in white. I didn’t want to use accessories that would look too retro. Let’s do it in a cool, young way because that’s what Kobe is. He’s a cool, young and successful athlete. I wanted to give a modern approach. I was thinking of [rapper] Tupac [Shakur] where I put a band underneath in the hat to make it look hip-hop, but … it translates in a surreal look where it creates a strong image. It was something that hasn’t been done before. It’s mixing the inspiration of Tupac and a gentleman with a white hat … a mix of a hip-hop and a conservative look.”

    Im surprised that this many basketball fans are so familiar with what they deem as “gay style” “gay facial features”?!@Cheryl and what “gay people look like”. You all must really believe the mainstream media’s ridiculously exaggerated portrayal of this stereotype. Or maybe you all are writing some guidelines about it? What’s even more ridiculous is how much time yall spend defending yourselves. Will you all send me your pictures so I know exactly what a bigot looks like?

    This is what happens when you don’t have total control over any and everything associated with
    your name (brand). I’d say they took about 50-100 photos and he told the photographer and editor you pick the best ones for the magazine, I trust you. Hahaha… Ya’ll seen after game 2 interview he was like F*** It! We up 2-0, Hahahaha….

    Those pics look to me real stylish, sophisticated but cool and fresh. Congrats to kobe to have the open mind to do those kind of things. It don’t suprise me that you guys are hatin on those looks. You american have no sense of what fashion is all about..L

    my god, if people seriously dont understand how gay those pics look, then you will never understand. yeah, its true, some gays are on the down low, they wear jeans and a tshirt and are gay. im just saying though, he looks gay in those pics, and i think thats the majority opinion here. metrosexual might be a better word, but a metrosexual is a man who looks feminine, and many gay guys do pull off the feminine look, not all, but many, just a generalization. if looks mean nothing, then how about i wear a dress and makeup and lipstick, and tell me that i look like a straight man?
