LeBron James/Chicago Bulls Conspiracy Theories Swirling

There’s talk out of Chicago about Derrick Rose and William “Worldwide Wes” Wesley working the back channels to get LeBron in a Bulls uniform, talk which has the New York media feeling understandably nervous. From the Chicago Tribune: “In the first 24 hours after the Celtics eliminated the Cavaliers on Thursday, the Bulls sold more than 500 new full season tickets and a team official estimated incoming call volume to their sales office stood roughly 50 times normal levels. The question now is whether the allure of LeBron James will have a similar effect on Bulls management. League sources said Sunday that noted NBA power broker William Wesley continues to work back channels to sell John Calipari and James as a package deal to franchises such as the Bulls, Nets and Clippers with coaching vacancies and salary cap room. Another league source confirmed that an unknown Calipari connection contacted Bulls management over the weekend. This not only once again renders the coach’s vows to remain at Kentucky hollow, it underscores the juggling act general manager Gar Forman and senior vice president John Paxson must navigate as they tackle a coaching search while planning for free agency, which begins July 1.”

Anywhere Delonte West isn’t playing will be a good look for LBJ (joke…I know that thing is BS).

  • Vernon Leaspi

    not a chance…..

  • el_dirty_harry

DRose and Coach Cal won’t be enough for LBJ.
    Still too early to predict.

  • Fat Lever

    Reunite LBJ with Paul Silas!

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

I like stories like this one that have unknown sources and contacts and deal with back room negotiations and deals. It’s fun, like a movie or something. If LBJ goes to Chicago he will be in Jordan’s shadow forever.

  • Atrain

LBJ to Chi makes no sense. (as mentioned, MJ Shadow) Isn’t Lopez/Wall more promising than Rose/Noah? And since when is coach Cal a good fit in the L? If that is the “package” deal I don’t see it working, sorry. I still say heading East makes more sense otherwise stay home and finish what you started

  • John Starks

William Wesley is no f*ckin joke

  • dino

LeBron James will be either a Cavalier or a Knick. Anyone who thinks that Bron teamed with D Rose & Noah will suddenly propell the Bulls to title contenders is retarded

  • imo

The bulls need to sign joe johnson, los boozer draft a big man and sign sheed to a 2yr vets minimum to get n dwights head and teach the rookie center some things. That’s the smart move to make, IMO

  • imTUFFo

^—(that’s me) it wouldn’t make them a contender right away but its a startin point. They need a bench to make ecf. Another steal for them is if they can land jason maxiell. Small n size but he’s scrappy and plays d for a bench player!

  • Scottie Pimpin’

the knicks ? the only thing the knicks can offer are annoying papparazi media, free lap dances, money.

Go to Chicago Lebron and lay down the law on these bum ass teams

And if Calipari goes to Chicago he better bring his A+ game. or Pax will pimp slap a ho…

the King and the Prince of Chicago…i get goose bumps already….GO BULLS !!

So, is SLAM going to comment on these rumors about Delonte West and Gloria James?

  • Diesel

Why would lebron go to NY??? TO play with Gallinari? NY needs to realize they’re horrible and aren’t getting anyone. No superstar is going to want to come to your team and play with scrubs. As for Lopez/Wall being more attractive than Rose/Noah – Wall couldn’t get his stacked team past west virginia and you’re saying he’s better than NBA all star drose???please don’t comment stupidity like that. I can’t believe the amount of hate on this site. All fanboys trying to hate on the Bulls and grasping at straws trying to rationalize Lebron on their team. Other than the Clippers and OKC, Chicago is the best place for Lebron to go talent wise. Not the nets and CERTAINLY not NYC.

  • dino

Tell me how LeBron with Rose = championship whatelse do the Bulls have that makes them a contender. Unless somehow Bron can convince Bosh & Wade to take paycuts and all sign with the Knicks or the Heat or whatever LeBron isn’t anything.Maybe people should stop blaming the Cavs and START blaming LeBron he isn’t Magic, Michael, Russel, Duncan, Shaq, Bird or even Kobe. P.S. Kevin Durant will win more rings than “king james”

  • riggs

if you think lebron is going to Chicago then you’re a moron. Not only would he get noah traded for talking ish, he wants to build his own legacy not live up to MJ’s even more.

  • http://Www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

My buddy’s uncle who works at Busch Gardens said there’s no need to legitimize those rumors by repeating them. It was disgusting and completely disrespectful.

  • Diesel

@Dino – I think Drose is head and shoulders above Mo Williams. Deng is better than Parker or West or any other 2/3 gaurd the Cavs have. Noah is betetr than any center on the cavs. And Gibson is an up and coming 4 that is good for 10 and 10 every game. So 3 out of the open 4 positions would be notably better than what the cavs currently have. I wrote a long post on another story – but i think LBJ joining a team that has a true point gaurd and ball handler is much better for his game. You’d take the ball out of his hands a little more which means he can’t be double teamed as much and teams can’t focus their defenses on him.

  • Diesel

@riggs – if you think the only time LBJ is being compared to MJ’s legacy is if he’s in chicago then you’re the idiot. LBJ has been compared to jordan since he first stepped on an NBA court. he’s been in his shadow constantly – regardless of where he plays. Did Shaq worry about going to the lakers and living in kareem’s shadow? Did kg worry about going to the celtics and being in russell’s shadow?

  • Tommy Patron

Exactly how is it that John Calipari will be able to achieve more success in the NBA than Mike Brown? Calipari is a slimy snake, which can get one over in college(so long as you leave before the investigations hit), but does nothing to help you in the League.

  • Tommy Patron

**Also, I’m aware of his previous stint as HC with NJN.

  • http://www.hoopsvibe.com/features/overdribbling chiqo

@allenp: nope. though i think it would result in some entertaining conversation and perhaps even some real journalism, no legitimate news source will touch that with a 10-foot pole.

  • riggs

@Diesel: Yes and Yes. any other stupid question you’d like to ask?

  • Loqui

The Knicks can sign two max players. If they luck out and get a Bosh, that would give Lebron incentive to come to the Knicks. The talent on the team isn’t bad either, with the youngins that fit his style of play. Also, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract could net them something valuable pretty soon, preferably for the center position (Knicks biggest hole).

  • http://www.anwilson.blogspot.com rainman10

First of all the Bulls were better/more talented than their 8th seed would suggest. They lost something like 10 or 13 games when Noah was out. Say he wasn’t injured and they go just 6-6 in that time, that puts them at 47 wins, which is what the Heat needed to get the 5 seed. I don’t think Del Negro was a bad coach at all, but let’s assume they get a better coach. The young guys like Rose, Noah, Gibson, Johnson are going to improve. They still have great players in Deng, Hinrich, and Miller. Then they get a middle of the first round pick, make the right pick which they have done the last few years, and that is some great depth to add. Take all of that and this alone can be a 48 win team. Add a top tier free agent, I think Wade is the best way to go, and this is a 55 win team looking at a top 4 seed come playoff time. Chicago has the potential to be real nice.

  • Diesel

@riggs – I can’t decide if you’re slow or just playing dumb. Obviously niether one of those guys worried to the point that they didn’t join the team. As a matter of fact I’d say those guys took at as an honor to play for the same team and be compared to those guys. Kind of negating your whole MJ shadow argument…see where I’m going here?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

If Lebron is to be compared to anyone it should be Oscar Robertson.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

    Or Magic Johnson.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I agree 100% with what Diesel is saying in regards to LeBron potentially “playing in MJ’s shadow”. Both the Celtics and the Lakers have had multiple hall-of-famers but you never hear about Pierce living in Bird’s shadow or Kobe living in Magic’s or Jerry West’s. Joakim Noah is an outstanding rebounder and is extremely outspoken, but you never hear anyone say he has to live in Dennis Rodman’s shadow. Not to mention, LeBron was THE MOST HYPED high school player ever, he’s been on the national scene since he was like 14, he’s lived up to the hype, and people think all of a sudden NOW he’s going to hide from the spotlight or crumble under pressure? Come on now. Besides, in my opinion he plays more like Pippen anyways. Dude just scores like MJ.

  • dino

Rose is NOT a true PG

  • imTUFFo

Dino, neither was chauncey but look how he evolved. He’s still young and the best thing u can do as an athlete is b versatile. This will only help him to c the floor which will make him a double threat (slasher/passer) and it’ll pay dividends down the road. Hopefully he’s a lifetime investment for the bulls!

  • Delmar

@Diesel and @Enigmatic…. Great job explaining to these knuckleheads who wanna use that d@mn “MJ shadow sh*t” Kobe (Magic’s shadow) KG (Russells shadow) not only joined the Lakers andCeltics, but they WON and not one time were they affected by some shadow argument. James has ALWAYS been and will be compared to MJ, no matter where he ends up. People like riggs obviously don’t want it to happen (fear perhaps?) So, who’s the “retarded” ones?
