Marquis Daniels’ Dad Arrested, Tasered

I believe there’s only one appropriate reaction to this story, courtesy of WESH/NBC in Orlando: Holy crap! The details: “The father of a Boston Celtics player was shot with a Taser gun and arrested at Tuesday night’s Game 2 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals at the Amway Arena in Orlando, according to police. Willie Lorenzo Buie is the father of 28-year-old Boston Celtic Marquis Daniels. Buie was charged with resisting arrest with violence. According to an arrest report, Buie was being escorted out of the arena by security when he began tensing up and resisting. When another officer tried to help escort Buie out, Buie said, ‘I’m not going. (Expletive) you!’ the arrest report said.”

I believe there’s one other appropriate reaction to this story – DON’T TAZE ME, BRO!

    Wild news day.

So, what was the original reason for him being kicked out? Nearly everyone tenses up when cops and or security are pushing and pulling u in a very herky jerky fashion. Thats what they do, then if u dont act like a rag doll and let them treat u that way, they can say u were violently resisting. Such bs

A cousin, aunt or uncle may come up.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: May.19 at 5:19 pm
So, he was lying on his stomach when they tazed him. I smell a lawsuit. And why was h removed and no magic fans that were harassing him? I bet they didnt even ask for his papers

    Tarzan
Actually it’s perfectly legal and within police procedure to taser someone while they are prone if hte police feel you are actively resisting them. So, if the police say you wouldn’t allow them to handcuff you, or you wouldn’t lie on the ground, even if you’re not attacking them, they can taser until you submit.

    Don’t tase me bro!!

  • drewl Posted: May.19 at 7:37 pm
yeah… what was he doing to warrant being escorted out? tasers are ridiculous, frequently abused.

  • Anton Posted: May.19 at 8:20 pm
Damn, Lil Wayne’s disguise as Marquis Daniels is compromised. Back to jail.

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: May.19 at 8:35 pm
Allenp, it is legal, but it was not the best option. Id guess there were at least 4 or 5 cops, and dude looks like an old out of shape guy, so they should have just grabbd his arms and cuffd him. Ive had powercuffing training so I know its not hard against an old guy lying prone with many cops, they just got lazy and saw it as a chance to use their tazer, douchebags

niQ: you should prolly check your emails

dude has some serious charges on his previous rap sheet…

  • NUPE Posted: May.20 at 10:29 am
considering his previous rap sheet, the video and witnesses to what happened minutes before him getting tazed, it looks pretty good for the OPD. It’s just really easy to believe the police perspective of the story.

@Ben, will do when I get home. I can’t access that e-mail from work.

  • Allenp Posted: May.20 at 11:02 am
I’m curious, do people find it strange that the police release the previous arrest history of suspects, but not the previous complaint history of the officers involved in these sort of incidents?
Or, does anybody notice that police downplay past history when it turns out the victim has been an upstanding citizen, preferring to instead focus on the present situation?
I don’t know what happened with Daniels’ dad, I wasn’t there. But, I think in this case a sense of bias has been created in the public’s mind based on the release of certain information and not other information.
