Mo Williams(?!) Sparks Cavs in Game 1

After a difficult first half for Cleveland, the Cavs got going in the third quarter, with the spark coming from a guy who doesn’t have a great big-game track record and is so key to Cleveland’s chances of winning it all this year: Mo Williams.

Midway through the third, with his team down 11, Mo got loose on a fastbreak and, with Paul Pierce approaching, turned his hand over and threw down what is being called the first dunk of his Cleveland career. As it reads in the Boston Herald:

“It was big play,” Williams said of the dunk. “Anything uncharacteristic that happens always sparks energy. I thought (Pierce) would block a layup.”

Williams was just getting started, as he followed the dunk with a jumper, then a floater in the lane, then another jumper followed by a pair of free throws.

Granted, LeBron James (35 points, seven rebounds, seven assists) was fantastic, but Williams may have been the difference.

“I told Mo if he ever dunked a basketball in a game, it would spark us,” James said. “It not only sparked the whole team, but it sparked him. He took over the third quarter.”

Williams scored 14 in the third on his way to 20 points. Rondo scored six in the entire second half.

“It was a big stretch,” Celtics coach Doc Rivers said of Williams’ third-quarter run. “We really felt going into this that he’s one of the guys that you really have to focus on. I thought we let them play way too comfortable in the second half.”

hhhhmmmm, I guess for a Celtic lover my pre-game analysis were pretty good this time. lol. Good game, bad result for us. Mo did his thing and I was surprised we didn’t get up tighter on him knowing that he was going to start shooting more after the spark dunk. oh well…now, I don’t want to hear another word about the elbow injury. Before game 1 tip off they showed LBJ tossing balls at the hoop from half court (out of bounds) with his right hand as he always does. Come on man, if you have any sort of injury you do NOT do anything that may inflame it. A player would have to be a complete moron to do that and LBJ is not a moron…He was doing a lot of hi fives, pretty hand shakes and jump bumps with the right all game and only favored the right when he missed. He again pulled up from deep with the game pretty much won and easily drained a 3. Why do that to an injured arm? (Because he can) I’m just saying… LBJ is a Beast w/ a real good team so no excuses. KG played well and Perk & G Davis did too until foul trouble. Paul & Ray sucked last night and Rondo was good. see my pre-game below. hahaha

PG: Rondo over Mo Williams (Rondo will not shrink if Mo is having a great game but Mo may shrink if Rondo is having one.)
SG Ray over Anthony Parker (Don’t sleep on Parkers game)
C Perk v Shaq (The Hulk vs Superman 1 : which Shaq shows up & which Perk shows up, Will Shaq look slow or confident? Will Perk be strong or foul plagued? The bench Bigs could decide this one)
PF KG vs Jamison (Again it depends on which KG shows up and if he can sustain it all series. Slight edge to Jamison on this one until KG proves otherwise)
SF LBJ over PP (This was easy but this one is interesting b/c PDouble will not shrink even though LBJ will do his thing
    The Bench: Pick em
G Delonte West, G/F Jamario Moon, F/C J.J. Hickson, F/C Anderson Varejao, G/F Jawad Williams, F/C Zydrunas Ilgauskas vs G/F Tony Allen, F/C Glen Davis, F/C Rasheed Wallace, G Michael Finley, G Nate Robinson, Marquis Daniels (This is just one mans opinion.) That last Shaq foul on Rondo that I agree was just a hard foul was indeed intentional to send a message..shaq is smart enough to make a hard statement foul look innocent, he also knew by throwing his weight against a PG would send him flying like a nat. lol

Uhmm… BostonBaller? look closely, he was shooting the underhand halfcourt shots, LEFT HANDED.

  • Robb

    Buck Foston dunk by Mo!

  • Jason t

If Paul pierce can pretend he needs a wheel chair, lebron James can say his elbow hurts.

  • The Philosopher

Maurice Williams got tired of Rajon Rondo kicking his ass.

  • jdote

the thing is, I don’t really think the Celts played bad defense on Mo after the dunk. He was just feeling it. And I don’t know if as a coach you can say “We need to take the ball out of MO WILLIAMS hands” especially on a team that has Lebron James. I think you just have to live with it. Way to step up Mo..Looking forward to game two.

  • BostonBaller

I did look closely, he did shoot some lefty but he also tossed a few righty. He can do what he wants..I was just putting it out there. Now that you “clarified” the half court tosses what about the hi fives, et al. Maybe my viewing box is actually a mirror that reverses everything. lol. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. Most of these athletes have some prima donna in them or they wouldn’t be where they are. There are only a few Duncans & Allens in sports these days.

  • The Reign Man

& K.G. faked his knee injury coz he easily dunked the ball during that game right haters ? TAKE IT

  • The Reign Man

LIKE MEN !!!! K.G. ‘s gonna shut his mouth this series coz shaq is there to elbow drop him. like Mickey Ds Mo Fos . Like Mickey Ds. (I’m lovin it) !!

  • kriz

lebron has NEVER complained about an injury before

  • Ronald

Hmmm…doesn’t shooting a free throw left handed despite being able to do it right handed then holding it as if it is broken then having a press conference about it classify as complaining about an injury?

  • riggs

yes it does, but lebron blowers would never admit that.

  • The Reign Man

hmm.. complaining about injury or discussing injury. is that the only thing you can jump on ? LeBron Soldiers vs KobeSexuals(swingin’ from Kobes Nut$) lets go !!!

  • The Reign Man

Ice Cube comes to mind. ….. Talkin bout I’m the N!##a they love to hate . B!£(H !! Back up off my tip for the simple fact your’e on it like a nad on a dog’s d!(k !!!! :-)
