Polladaday: Disappointing 2010 Playoffs?

The Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers both hold commanding leads in their respective Conference Finals and are expected by many to finish off their opponents in the next two games. Should this happen, it would mean that five of the last six series ended in a sweep. With several teams falling short of expectations, an apparent lack of parity, long delays between games and a compelling off-season approaching, how have you felt about this year’s playoffs?

What are your thoughts on the 2010 NBA Playoffs?

no… how bout a “not disappointing playoffs” option? eh?

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

    Wow, what a variety.
    A) Yes
    B) Not No
    C) Correct
    D) of Course

“There have been sweeps, but that doesn’t mean the games weren’t competitve” OR “A great Finals is all that matters” would be two such options for those pleased with the playoffs. Eh?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ Myles Brown

They could have been utterly disappointing, redeemable by a great Finals, satisfactory because the series results belied competitive and entertaining play or you could just care more about free agency no matter what happened in the playoffs. Those are the options presented. Pick one. Or dont. Sheesh.

    not totally predictable, but disappointing

  • http://www.another48minutes.com Gerard Himself

not predictable at all, but only one series going to 7 games, and NOT A SINGLE OT GAME SO FAR! Who knew? But let’s hope the Finals will go all the way: I want 7 games of epic Lakers-Celtics battles.

  • Coolio

The puts the spicy to that boring playoffs, a good 7 games finals between celts and lakes

  • Coolio

I mean de CELTS puts the FLAVOR to this boring playoffs

  • underdog

I wouldn’t use the word disappointing at all, but the long delays are definitely killing me.

  • funkdoc

I would have chosen unpredictable but disappointing if that was an option…

  • vtrobot

7 triple OT games in the BOS/LAL Finals. The only 2 left standing towards the end will be Scal and Mbenga and it will just be a 1 on 1. That would be unpredictable.

  • dAnieL Lee

I don’t think the playoffs have been disappointing AT ALL! The Celtics run, and particularly them beating the Cavs, was probably the most I’ve enjoyed any playoff matchup since the original Suns/Spurs matchups (04/05?). Plus, it’s great to watch really good teams play at a really high level (see: Lakers).

  • Gábor

vtrobot, wow, that Mbenga Scalabrine matchup would be fun for sure :)

  • LA Huey

Suns/Spurs was actually a pretty entertaining and competitive sweep. But most of the series have been underwhelming.

  • onlyclipsfanonslam

Disappointing in pure sexy entertainment value. But, the Lakers and Celtics are playing beautiful team basketball. John Wooden doesn’t need viagara, he needs the Lakers vs Celtics in the 2010 NBA finals.

What the hell is the clipsfan talking about? Playoffs have been great. Spurs mavs, and lakers thunder were great series. Celts cavs too

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

    Playoffs are never disappointing…c’mon now!

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com Don

The playoffs haven’t been disappointing or bad in the sense of being awful. Not at all. But the outcome of the series have been predictable and therefore boring.

  • BostonBaller

Predictable and disappointing: No & No. No one was prediction Boston to get out of 1st round let alone the 2nd. disappointing only to those who’s teams have lost so far and are losing. How many of use predicted AND ACTUALLY BELIEVED that the Suns would still be here. I predicted but did NOT believe. lol. I’m sure Stern is disappointed big time.

cosign BostonBaller. i’d even go so far as to say this was quite a surprising postseason. you got milwaukee pushing ATL to seven games, the spurs taking out the mavs, the jazz knocking off the nuggets, the thunder giving the lakers a fight, and of course, all of boston’s success. i’d say the playoffs have been pretty exciting so far. or maybe i’m just biased because my team (boston) has been revived.

  • vanillagorrila

pretty sure we were just just spoiled by last years stellar showing but the east up until now has been underwhelming to say the least and there have been upsets its just with all the injuries and match-up problems most games have been easy to predict the winner at the end of the first.

  • http://www.springbored.net letsmotor

good points, vanilla. like i said, i’m probably just biased. we’ve had our moments this year, though.

  • ben2424

    im pretty happy with it….

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I don’t see how this has been disappointing so far. It’s really been one of the most… revealing playoffs in recent times – especially for losing teams. Usually when teams get knocked out they go “hmm well, we gave it a shot… with this experience, we’ll add a piece in the summer, pray for the best health and try again next year”. But this year a lot of teams’ “true natures” were revealed, and revealed to just not be good enough. Atlanta’s showed that their ceiling is below Orlando’s floor. Utah showed beyond doubt that no matter how well they play, they just aren’t built to beat LA. And then the Cavs’ red supergiant implodes into a giant supernova.

  • Tyler

yeah these playoffs suck, all the teams I rooted for lost or are losing. overall way disappointing. The Lakers suck, their “fans” especially, and the Celtics are lame. Their fans aren’t as bad, but they’re still bandwagoners. If that offends you then you know it’s true. Go Kings!!!!!!

  • http://www.basketbrasil.com.br Rubens

    Boring playoffs are boring…

  • BostonBaller

@Tyler, you proved my point, thank you. When your team is out of it everything and everyone “sucks:”, the insults come easy (not as easy as your team losing but easy never the less). If you are a Cavs fan than more than likely you are a TRUE bandwagoner b/c how many fans did the Cavs have b4 LBJ got there? How many will be left in 2 yrs if he leaves? Get a grip get a clue some of us fans are tried and true. @letsmotor, I agreed w/ you until you agreed w/ vanilla. lol. There are matchup problems & injuries every year which I’m sure are exciting if they don’t happen to your team. @whomever it applies to: You have to pick your poison when you drink hater-aide. Enjoy the games whether your team is out or not, stop driving down the rating with your childish sulking. I watched every game last year even though we got bounced. Real fans watch games, bandwagoners often just watch their team when they win. OMO

  • http://digitalthread.com AlbertBarr

@BostonBaller: I DO know lakers fans who wont watch the playoffs if the ‘show is not in the playoffs or after they have been eliminated…so Tyler is at least being accurate to a point, whether he is a hater or not.

  • Chris

@albertbarr True, but surely a basketball fan can appreciate the ‘game’.
Neither of the teams involved in last years Celts-Bulls series were mine, but I still admired the basketball value that it provided.
Same with the Bucks resiliance, the Celtics beating the Cavs this year….not my teams, but good performances.

Maybe the NBA is slightly to blame…. ‘where AMAZING happens’ is rammed down our throats every commercial.
It’s like setting up a meeting with your friends saying your new girl looks like a supermodel, then they see her and think ‘oh….er…really?!’….
