Rasheed: ‘I Didn’t Come Here for the Regular Season’

Last night, Wallace was only too happy to remind everyone that his epic regular season struggles were by design. Something his coach grudgingly agreed with. The Boston Herald has the quotes: “The plan has never changed for Rasheed Wallace. He was just warming up during the regular season. ‘This is why I came here,’ he said last night after the Celtics’ series-clinching 94-85 win over Cleveland in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. ‘I didn’t come here for the regular season.’ The proof is in the fact that though the backup center had a fine night with 13 points that included 2-for-4 shooting from downtown, but his blocked shot, three rebounds and two steals were just as big. Coach Doc Rivers, sometimes out of frustration, said at several points this season that he has heard Wallace is supposed to be a big-game player. Last night, asked if he now understands why, the Celtics coach shook his head in relief. ‘I do understand now,’ said Rivers. ‘He was great in this series overall. He got into this series emotionally, and that was great for the fans to see.’”

They’re going to need even more of him to get past Orlando…..picking up 3 fouls in 8 minute intervals isn’t a good look.

Sheed looked a lot more intense last night.

Clearly. Look at his stats in the regular season. He wasn’t there at all.

If sheed is locked in 100% he can gaurd Dwight Howard straight up…he’s probably the best Dwight stopper in the league. This series is going to be very interesting.

Don’t forget Perk and his arsenal of technical fouls have managed to piss Dwight off regularly.

Just “warming up” in the regular season and a series-and-a-half in the playoffs. He played well last night, but come on. Even if it were the case (that he coasted during the regular season, and thus should be paid accordingly) please just keep your mouth closed and produce for at least a few more games before spewing this BS for none of us to buy.

sheed seemed to actually give a f*ck and be putting forth some effort at various intervals of the game last night. that game went very well with some delicious blue ribbon BBQ and beer. ORL prolly isn’t taking things too lightly and they def shouldn’t be. this could be a great, heated series. prolly gonna be better than the finals. unless we get to see the C’s bounce the lakers again. f u la.

please don’t ever be surprised at sheed’s knuckleheadedness. i think his whole career has been a calculated plan leading up to last night. he pulled it off to perfection !!! both teams played hard.

You know, I think this Celts team is actually better constructed than the one that won the title. Rondo is 10 times better, Powe was a nice piece but if Sheed can continue to play decent, that closes that gap. Tony Allen is clearly better than his ’08 self. Missing Eddie House’s three point stroke is one thing lacking, but KG seems to have reached 90% of his game and has looked solid. Perk is a tad better than he was in the title year too. I don’t know, but if they can get past Orlando, the Lakers are going to be uncomfortable.

i’m not saying it’s ok that he coasted during the regular season, but he’s definitely stepped his game up since the conference semi-finals started. he’s been very effective, even though you’d have to do more than just check the box scores to see that. he’s been very good on defense and he’s even made some key rebounds.

“I came here to the chips”

Interesting, since up until like game 2 or 3 of the CLE series, it looked like he didn’t come to Boston at all. It wasn’t until he was challenged as a player and a man that he finally stepped up. A motivated Sheed changes the dynamics of the ORL series pretty dramatically, but that’s the question and has always been with Sheed. For him, it’s not the ball don’t lie, it’s the tape don’t lie either.

And when did Sheed become a big-game player? After he tried to call a timeout he didn’t have in the 2005 Finals? After he double-teamed off of little-known Robert Horry in the same game? After consistently getting into foul trouble in the 2004 Finals? After guaranteeing a victory against Cleveland while in Detroit, then playing abysmally?

If he’s only playing for real in the playoffs, that was a poorly constructed contract on the Celtics part. I’ve never seen coasting that was worse.

Bof teams played har my man

  • mems

sheed was just getting into game shape all season. lmao

now that5 they won EVeryone is talking crazy like he didnt suck all season

  • T-Money

Dwight gotta be a little uneasy right now. When you think about it, Perk and Sheed are arguably the two defenders that have had the most success vs him. I remember Sheed as a Piston just locking up Dwight by himself. I’m still not sure how he does it though, perplexing.

  • T-Money

ENDS: he did suck all year but does it matter at this point?

“Oh you mad cause I’m stylin on you!”

Didn’t come here for the regular season? This the same cat who said, prior to the season, that the Celtics would break the Bull’s 72-10 record. That’s a REGULAR SEASON record, homie. Step your game up, Sheed.

  • MikeC.

Does this mean that the Celtics get a refund on his regular season paychecks?

I came here to mock ‘Sheed…but the “If Sheed is locked in 100% he can guard Dwight Howard straight up” comment left me completely discombobulated.
