Ray Allen: No Egos on the Celtics

No one believes Ray when he says this, of course, but so far, everyone seems content with letting Rajon Rondo run the show. Winning cures all, as the cliché goes. From the Boston Herald: “There is a consensus – growing with every brilliant performance – that Rajon Rondo is the Celtics’ best player. As for the Big Three, Paul Pierce remains the go-to guy in crunch time. Kevin Garnett is still the team’s leader. And then there’s Ray Allen. The player who made the biggest sacrifices when he arrived along with Garnett three years ago, all Allen has done is produce. Allen has been so consistent that he can become easy to overlook – except by those on the court … After a subpar performance in the opener against Miami, Allen has been steady. He’s averaging 19 points on 51.1 percent field goal shooting and 48 percent 3-point shooting in the playoffs. That Allen is in a groove at the same time the team is moving the ball well is no coincidence. Naturally much of the ball movement starts with the point guard. ‘With (Rondo) playing the way he is, it’s like they have to find a solution for him and they’re still worrying about what Kevin’s doing and what I’m doing and what Paul’s doing,’ Allen said. ‘When Rondo is doing good, it makes it easier on all of us.’ Allen isn’t concerned with who gets the credit. ‘As long as we win,’ Allen said. ‘When you celebrate a championship, you hug everybody the same.”’

Cavs are in trouble. We’ll see about Orlando.

I really think tonight’s game favors the C’s. I expect their role players to outplay the Cavs role players in Boston and I feel that the extra days off was more in the C’s favor than Cleveland. That being said, LeBron is a great player and great players typically show up for games like tonights, so it should be a good one.

there are HUGE egos and rondo’s is probably as big now as any of the big 3′s. remember the CP3 incident? for the rondo haters who get mad that he think he’s best PG, would you want a PG who doesn’t think that? how do you get to be the best w/o thinking that you are along the way? i noticed that after the miami series, while PP and other C’s were staying on the court to talk with the heat players, rondo just got the F out. seems to be a bit of a d*ck sometimes and that’s fine ’cause i care a lot more about him winning games than i do about him being a nice dude. tonight should be epic.

If the C’s win will everyone call LBJ out for not shaking hands again? I’m just saying since we only seem to care about winning.

  • jumpman3224

I do think it’s interesting that LBJ shook hands with the Bulls after ousting them. Like I’m a competitor I can’t shake hands with you after you beat me up, but if the situation is reversed I’ll smile and give you dap.

Never been a Rondo fan. He is a terrific athlete and very, very talented, but he most definitely has an ego and it seems to exceed his playing capabilities.

  • Baller

I have a feeling that there is a lot of Rondos ego flying around the locker room. You hear little stories about unrest amongst the young and older guys, but Doc does a good job of keeping it hush hush so you never know whats there.

  • neaorin

It should be pretty clear by now. The team does well whenever Rondo does well, it doesn’t matter which one (or two) of the Big Three is struggling.

“When you win a championship, you hug everybody the same.” Awesome quote. As for Rondo having a big ego like everyone’s saying, I’m not so sure. he definitely takes major pride in his game, especially when he’s going up against other top notch point guards, but he’s never seemed like a me-first type of player. he’s the kind of player who can dominate a game without scoring, and usually, guys with big egos can’t do that.

  • Ronald

The whole CP3 and Rondo thing could’ve been seen a mile away, even before the game started. Both are snide trashtalkers who talk crap to everyone in an underhanded way. i.e mumbling under their breath as they walk past. But ability wise Rondo has turned into an awesome PG who will have a long career. Possibly HOF. He’s young yet he already knows when to use his head over his athletic abilities and knows how to pick spots. But I think RayRay forgot what a person without an ego looks like seeing how he’s been in the team with the biggest ego in the league for a few yers.

  • Diesel

No ego’s on the celtics??? Didn’t Pierce recently proclaim that he was the greatest shooter of all time?

  • cavs pride

cavs will win the championship. with or without injured elbow. celtics will show its age come game 4.

  • Atrain

Ray Allen class guy, great shooter.

But there are egos on Celts, namely Rondo and Perk

  • Jorge

No egos?? PLEASE. The only respectfull player is Ray Allen.
Garnett: Trash talker who nowadays gets punked by falling on the floor more than blocking shots.
Pierce: Like Diesel said, the best shooter of C’s history????WOW.
Rondo: Why people even compare him to any good pointgard….Please!!
Perkins: This guy should go to UFC or something, from now on, watch how everytime he goes for a rebound, and wath his arms..sometimes I think he might injure the high-cholesterol grandpa’s around him.
Big Baby, please don’t cry, it’s ok….we’ll go for Pizza after the game…but you have to stop crying!!!!

  • funkdoc

The reason there are no ego’s on the team, is because he doesn’t consider Nate Robinson to be part of the team.

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

@Jorge: OK, Perk plays a physical game… so that means he has a big ego? and Rondo, not among the league’s best point guards? i don’t even know how to respond to something so ignorant.

  • vtrobot

ha ha funkdoc. i think ray meant to say that there are the most egos in the league on that team, but they’re managing to keep them in check, until they lose again. @ jorge: ray is now part of c’s history, so there’s no way that PP is the C’s best shooter ever. you don’t think rondo is a good point guard? led the league in steals, pretty high assist average. one of the highest FG% for PGs. one of the best rebounding PGs. has always stepped up his game during the playoffs. NBA champion. besides that, he’s not very good.

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

i think when ray says no one on the c’s has a big ego, he means nobody on the team puts themselves before the team. can paul pierce make cocky statements sometimes? absolutely, but doesn’t mean he’s not a team player. also, i think people are mistaking team swagger for individual ego. everyone on the c’s feels proud of who they are as a team, but i really don’t think anyone on that team is a selfish player. even nate has played smarter (although not nearly as much) since joining the c’s.

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

@vtrobot: you forgot to mention something: he’s been OWNING the heavily-favored cavs.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

may i remind everyone that rondo came to the 1st round game 1 vs the bulls last year in a nascar? that was awesome.

  • vtrobot

speaking of egos (or lack thereof), i’d be OK with steve nash somehow leading los suns past the C’s in the finals. that there’s a good dude.

  • bill breedley

Bennett and company were assigned to make sure this game was not going to the celts. Despicable still how the big 3 did not show up. Props to the queen still for being Kobesque in the 1st qtr

  • BostonBaller

I missed the whole 1st half and 1/2 of the 3rd. What an old fashioned butt whoop’n!!! The are getting blown out b/c I wasn’t watching..oh and b/c The Cavs were hot tonight. lol. I’m not going to panic but I am going to call Doc tonight and ask if Ed Lacerte took their hearts out & forhot to put them back. Brutal simply brutal. My only question is, why do teams take a loss with a whole qtr left and down 25 or 30? If you out score my by 25 in one quarter who says I can’t out score you by 30 the next? I’m just say’n…

  • BostonBaller

Why is JJ Hickson still in the game? What if he got hurt during garbage time? Why foul Glen Davis and stop the clock if your Cleveland? What if someone Hickson twisted an ankle rebounding the missed free throw? Coaching is critical and I digress. Go Bruins!!!

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

this game made me want to throw up. that said, the series is far from over. all that happened was the celtics started off poor shooting-wise and we let that affect our defensive effort. that more or less handed the game to them.

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

also, who would’ve predicted there’d be back to back blowouts in this series?!

  • BostonBaller

I’m with letsmotor, this series is far from over…

  • Robb

The Celtics are just a bunch of old farts.

  • BostonBaller

^^^funny AND original, especially considering you probably was holding that comment in after game 2. lol

  • BostonBaller

Big z & Shaq’s combined age is about 96 but I like them both. How many Cavs fans were dogging Shaq about his age before he got to Cleveland? How many were saying he was an old fart and washed up? i bet if Cleveland signed Ray next year he would be considered a wiley vet who was possible the greatest shooter of all time? hahaha. It’s all about perspective and not reality with some fans. Next year we (The C’s are stealing the PHX trainers, medical staff and health magicians) See you guys at game 4. I love this game…

  • http://springbored.net letsmotor

even if they don’t have egos, i hope they have enough pride to go kick cleveland’s ass in game 4 after this mess.
