Polladaday: Should Wizards Draft John Wall?

The Washington Wizards finally got some good news. Last night’s NBA Draft Lottery rewarded them with the overall top pick and a prime opportunity to rebuild their struggling franchise. So we ask you, SLAM Nation: What should they do with it?

What should the Wizards do with the #1 pick?

    But if they draft John Wall, how would both wall and Arenas find a place in the back-court. And if they still play them both succesfully, only with your guards you will not be able to do too much of a damage in the league. If Wall is the only important addition to the Wizards, they would still be out of the playoffs

    There are other players, like Evan Turner, Derrick Favors or hell, maybe even Hassan Whiteside, that might end up being the best player drafted in 2010 (I mean, how often does the number 1 overall pick end up being the best pick when it’s all said and done?) But you gotta draft John Wall cause his potential is just, outta this world.

    From a Basketball standpoint I believe the better pick is Turner. To me he steps in @ 2-Guard from jump (Turner, Miller and Arenas would be very nice to see on the offensive end) and is 10x better than Nick Young. But talents like Wall (with the personality to match) dont come along too often. He will have the kids in DC doin that damn dance in no time! I know I may catch hell for this, but U dont need 2 “Gilbert Arenas” type of players in the same backcourt… Just leaves too much room for rook and vet to clash…

    @ripslam – Personally, I’d take dude that was drafted 13th in ’96 over dude that went 1 anyday. I’d also say Boozer (#35!!) and Stoudamire have had better careers than Yao Ming (though that’s due to injuries).

    Draft Wall and put Arenas to the 2 spot. He’s a scorer anyways and he’s not undersized at 6’4″ that’s the same height as Dwayne Wade.

    If they planning on keeping Gil (which they arent) they need to take Turner. If they take Wall they must work out a sign and trade (with Gil) with Utah for Boozer

    Wall is the better pick (trade Agent 0), but Evan and Favors have a hughe upside. To me D. Favors for the Nets is a good pick, he could eventually be an Amare type player, plus Nets have a good young point guard in Harris and Evan career will suck in 76ers.     acttually arenas is an offensive minded dude who would make a great 2 guard……nobodys gonna trade for arenas unless its like the twolves or some othe crap team….sides the worst thing about arenas is not that hes a idiot wholl do off court crap its his contract and all they have to do is keep him and trade off every1 esle which they did now they have some good sht goin with blatche livingston and number one draf pick

    umm the Wizards have a coach already. And he is better than Calipari. And watch for the Nets to have the best year of teams drafting in the top 3. They are serious about turning that team around. Get one of those good PFs in the draft and go hard after a good free agent. They have a good nucleus of Lopez and T. Williams to build around.

    I say they pick Wall, trade agent 0 to the 76ers for Elton Brand. Sixers draft Favors to get the PF they need and keep the Russian happy by gifting the Nets with Turner. I think that’s a great outome, dare I say win, win.

    Turner..Yes Wall is Wall..but he doesn’t fulfill a need..we need a strong combo/swingman..so pick up Turner and go for LeBron or Wade..it just makes much more sense..Arenas has already proven himself to be great (as well as an idiot off court, but great nonetheless)..he’s an all star and is experienced @ leading an NBA team..@ this point we need no more gambles..we need results…Please draft Evan Turner..

    To be honest if they feel Arenas and him doesnt work they can use him as draft bait. However I feel hes too much of a talent to trade him they should try as hard as they can to get him and arenas on the court at the same time. Arenas is a good enough shooter and scorer to work off the ball.

    People are saying they’re are not gonna keep Gil, but what are they going to do with him? No one in their right mind is going to trade for him, they’re not going to waive him with him making all that bread. If they were going to buy him out, why didn’t they do it already? You have to pick Wall so you don’t look like an idiot if he blows up. If he flops, then he’s the bust.

    ripslam – there is no way in hell Iverson is better than Kobe…debatable for a couple years, reflecting on careers and accomplishments…not even close. I don’t know, don’t think that Wall is that special, he’s like a Derrick Rose. He won’t be enough to lead a team. Just for an example, even though CP3 is amazing, his team licks balls. A pg can’t bring you a championship these days.

    As a Wiz fan, I’m starting to get real angry at the anti-Wall movement. Are we willing to NOT draft the most dynamic player out there because of Gilbert Arenas — a guy who’s played less than 50 total games the last 3 years? The same folks who wanted GilZero gone because he can’t stay healthy and he’s past his prime are the ones telling us now that Wall would cramp his style. Frankly, Arenas’ situation should have ZERO impact on the pick. The Wiz should consider their roster a blank slate. If it means eating Arenas’ fat contract, so be it, but you take the franchise kid. If you want to argue Turner is the better basketball player, go ahead. But no other reasons should factor into this pick. ….*does john wall dance*

    Yes BUT he’d be a better fit with the Cavs and their dancing with the stars sideline show. He could teach them his Wall dance and name it the LBJ dance.
