I’m a masochist. Memories of Game 6 of the 2008 finals is still embedded in my brain, and I went through the heartache again this weekend by watching the whole game. I watched KG hit that line drive foul and one that was pretty much the dagger for that series. I watched Paul Pierce celebrate on the scorer’s table for the first time since watching it live two years ago. Now that the wound is fresh again, I’m ready for revenge more than ever. I know Kobe and the rest of the team are. 131, 92 – they know.

It’s the 2006 Playoffs. Derek Fisher .04…that’s all I have to say. Game 5, series tied 2-2. The San Antonio Spurs thought they had the game won with Tim Duncan’s shot. Derek Fisher, the forgetton Laker in Kobedom is always cluth. Derek hits the shot and runs off the court because he knew the that the game was over…CLASSIC! Never has a shot been discussed so intensely, because it probably will never happen again, given the circumstances.

My favorite moment from an NBA Finals is from 2009. I know, whoa that was last year! But Look. I’ve been following the NBA hard since 2003. Im in L.A. I took the 3peat for granted. in 2004, my heart broke. Seeing the Lakers lose to the Suns in 06 was also painful. I still have nightmares of Tim Thomas’ 3 over Kwame. 2007 is a blur. 2008 was awful as well in the end, especially the game 4 collapse. But 2009, man that was it. Seeing DFish hit those 2 3′s in Game 4 were amazing. I couldn’t believe how happy I was, yes, even me, Mr. NBA Fan. Unbelievable moment

Well for me is last year vs the Orlando magic. I don’t know why people don’t all about it much but I feel it’s agreat play. It was web kobe comes from the right side for a lay up and howard comes trying to block it then Kobe hangs in te air switches to other hand in mid air and makes the basket. I mean how many people can do that with Howard coming to block you shot in that angle. It was incredible. That to me said we are winning a championship!!

My favourite Finals moment was in the finals in 2006. Both Miami and Dallas had worked their ways up to the finals and it was a very good series. I remember watching this series and rembering the crowd on their feet and there was a lot of support for both teams. It ended with Miami winning and they deserved it. It was a fun watch.

  • Jose

I know It’s not BOS/LA relevant, But my favorite moment had to be Game 3 of the ’06 Finals. Wade had 5 fouls heading into the fourth and watched as Dallas increased it’s lead to 13(the largest lead of the game). The last 6 minutes in the Game, Wade knew he needed to lift his team & would not let his team go down 0-3. I remember it started with a bank-shot & thought “okay.”, then it turned into drives & mid range jumpers. Before you knew it, Miami was only down 5. Shaq’s clutch pair of FT’s,Posey’s contribution, and GP’s jumper were all crucial but Wade started the spark. 12 points in the last 6 minutes; 42 pts. & 13 rebs. for the game. That game shifted the momentum of the series and Wade went off every game following that. If not for that spark,he would have that ring on his finger that I doubt the series would have ended how it did, but Wade did work and got his…

  • Jose

    He Wouldn’t have that ring*
    sorry about the typo

  • mike

I’d only want this so I could burn it…

  • Heals

9-2 all-time, so to which massacre does this refer…

June 14, 2000: Game 4 vs. Indiana (NBA Finals). The “I Got You” Game.

Coming into Game 4, Bryant’s status was uncertain. He had been limping around in the two days between games, and Lakers coach Phil Jackson didn’t know how much he’d get from his youthful catalyst. What he got from Bryant left fans and the media alike in amazement, drawing inevitable comparisons between Bryant and Michael Jordan, another championship guard coached by Jackson. Shaq fouled out early in overtime. When he went to the bench, KB said to him, “I got you.” The eight points he scored in that overtime changed the series. Those 5 minutes were the reason the Lakers two games later won their first chip since 1988 and the ultimate reason they were able to three-peat. On a tender ankle, Bryant had played 47 minutes, hitting 14 of 27 shots for 28 points.”When Shaq fouled out, I said, ‘This game just became a lot more interesting,’” Bryant said. “Pressure? No, I was too into the game to feel any pressure. To be honest, this is the kind of game I’ve always dreamed about.”

There have been many great memories in the Finals, especially with Lakers and Celtics rivalry. But let’s keep this simple: Magic Johnson playing all five positions in the Finals, as a ROOKIE. He led the Lakers to the championship trophy. Can anyone in the future possibly top that?

  • Brandon

My favorite moment was the 2006 finals when Dwyane Wade pretty much single-handedly brought the Heat back from the 0-2 deficit and led them to the title over Dallas. Everyone was writing them off after the two losses but Wade went nuts and made some insane plays. Lebron may be the best player in the 03 Draft class but Wade is the only one who’s won a title and continues to carry the Heat to the playoffs without any other all stars on his team.

1984: I’m seven years old, and at a time when I didn’t see my Dad much I spent a few days with him at his new apartment. I didn’t know anything about basketball, I didn’t know who Bird and Magic were, but I did know something important was happening, and that the guys in white and green were heroes to my hero. By the end of that game I was in love with basketball, celebrating with my Dad, and just beginning a lifelong and deep dislike of purple and gold uniforms. Twenty-six years later, and I’m about to watch Lakers and Celtics with my Dad one more time.

My favorite moment in the past NBA Finals was Ron Artest’s last minute heave of the ball into the basket over Jason Richardson. That was the most dramatic moment in the Finals seeing as after three attempts, Jason Richardson managed to hit a 3.Ron Artest’s 1 of 8 shooting percentage that night was the ultimate redemption that night especially after missing an open 3 that could have been potentially game changing since it gave the Suns more time to move the ball.

  • KB24

My favorite NBA Finals moment was 2009: LAKERS vs. TRAGIC(MAGIC), KOBE HITTING THAT DOUBLE CLUTCH FADE AWAY IN THE SERIES CLINCHER OVER DWIGHT HOWARD & PIETRUS WAS AWESOME, ENOUGH SAID, HOPEFULLY THIS YEARS FINALS IS A BOSTON MASSACRE!!!

  • Robb

    Lovely!

My favourite finals moment: Allen Iverson’s step back baseline jumper against the Lakers in game 1 of the 2001 Finals. He followed it up by stepping over Tyronne Lue who had been broken and on the floor. At that moment, as an Iverson/Sixer fan, I actually thought, “hey, these guys just might have a chance at winning the title”. (I was a realistic fan)

As a die hard Lakers fan, the 2002 Western Conference Finals Game 4 when Horry hit the last second 3 to beat the Kings. Sure, the Kobe one in 2006 or 2007 to beat the Suns was great, but they didn’t win the series. If Horry doesn’t hit this shot (that Vlade Divac considered “lucky”) the Lakers don’t go on to the finals.

  • Pete45

My favorite Finals moment has to be game 5 of the ’97 Finals. I was still a young pup back then, but I know one thing; the GOAT engraved that into his legacy. He had 38 points, 7 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals, and a block. Lets not forget his putback dunk and MJ’s game winning top of the key shot. Oh yeah, the guy did all that with the flu. Now the next time anyone does that, they might be able to see the essence of greatness.

  • Hanoon

1998 Bulls-Jazz finals: Michael Jordan crossing Byron Russell and nailing the game winning shot that earned him his 6th championship ring is without a doubt the most iconic moment I have ever seen on TV.

  • BostonBaller

All I have to say is, McHale & Rambis…….Let the rivalry live on.

  • BostonBaller

I have to get these to get them out of circulation. lol

  • Double J

NBA Finals 2002: LA v New Jersey
It was Kobe Bryant’s third trip to the NBA finals and in a close-out game four, he stepped off the team bus in a vintage Chi-town MJ jersey. This was the ultimate show of respect during a time that allowed “freedom of dress” in the NBA. This to me symbolized all that Kobe Bryant was working toward and has achieved… greatness.

  • Nas

Pippen being moved onto Magic and completely shutting him down in the 91 NBA Finals

  • RyandC

I showed you guys why I weapresented LA 2 years ago under the name Rydawg and you gave me a shirt for it. Now heres another chance for me to show my love for the Lake Show.

Now although BostonBaller beat me to it, my favorite Finals moment is a storyline for the ages: McHale Clotheslines Rambis. I have that picture ingrained in my mind and I never want to forget it so that it Ill always remember how much we hate Boston. Just like this shirt will.

1987 NBA Finals, LAKERS – CELTICS, I was eight years old back then. Lakers up 2-1, Game 4 in Boston and a pivotal one. Win, and the Celtics were even with their long-time foes. Lose, and it would be an uphill battle to win another title.

Boston rolled out to a 16-point halftime lead, but the Lakers whittled away at it until they were within eight points with three minutes left and down just 103-102 with 30 seconds to play. A pick-and-roll from Magic Johnson to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar put Los Angeles in front, but Larry Bird responded with a three-pointer to put Boston back on top 106-104 with 12 seconds left. After being fouled on the next possession, Abdul-Jabbar made the first and missed the second, but the rebound squirted out of bounds off Boston.

After a timeout, Johnson took the inbounds pass near the left sideline. He thought about launching a jumper, but lanky Kevin McHale was in his way. So he dribbled toward the key, with McHale in pursuit and Bird and Robert Parish moving over to join him. Before they could collapse on him at the foul line, however, Johnson tossed an old-fashioned running hook shot that nestled through the net, giving the Lakers the lead. After Bird missed an attempt at the buzzer, the Lakers had a 107-106 victory; they went on to win the series in six games.

Afterwards, Johnson labeled the shot “my junior, junior sky-hook,” after Abdul-Jabbar’s favorite weapon.

Lets face it the Average Joe is not an Adonis, nor is every player good at every skill, but where there are deficincies there are other areas that compensate, and where their are haters there will be the shutting up of said haters. For all of Rodman’s antics, good or bad, dude could hustle. My podiatrist always recommended Converse for their quality kind of like Dennis. He’s not a Bill Laimbeer, a bruiser who can shoot, but don’t you love it when a finals game is decided by 4 free-throws by him. They weren’t pretty – in the Mark Price kind of way – but like Barkley said ‘the only bad shot is a shot that misses’ (or something to that effect) and when he drains errant free throws without a Karl Malone type pre-shot mumble but with the non-chalantness of a Larry Bird in a 3-point shoot-out then u gotta love him. Hate him if u want but come crunch time, when nobody else can step up to the line and take those shots for you, he did it…. not a ‘big shot’ moment but speaks volumes for all the kids out there dreaming of playing pro despite, having to hear all the naysayers, its guys like rodman that make the NBA human

Back when I was ten years old the Lakers were facing off against Reggie Miller and the Pacers in the 2000 Finals. I loved playing basketball at the time and my L.A. born and bred father hadn’t given me much of an option as to which team to root for (and I’m grateful for it) So being the devout Laker fan living in Florida that my father was, he took his laptop and found Chick Hearn’s online broadcast of the game. We put the TV on mute and just sat there listening to Chick Hearn artistically broadcast the game like only he could. It isn’t a huge finals moment but it is certainly my favorite moment in my history as a basketball fan.

2006 finals. Dwyane Wade achieved an as-of-yet unheard of heroism in the NBA. He had already bought the Heat, his Heat, a ticket to the NBA Finals by stealing Vince Carter’s inbound pass in the semis. Now his Heat needed him again. They were down 2-0 against the Dallas Mavs and were down 13 halfway through the 4th, with a demoralizing third loss for the Heat being inevitable. Then Dwyane Wade erupted, and brought the Heat back. They would evetually win the series, and Dwyane Wade could finally be said in the same breath as Michael Jordan in his legendary playoff status.

As a diehard Kevin Garnett fan, my favorite Finals moment was his post game interview after the Celts won the title in 2008. To see him finally accomplishing what he had been grinding for all these years was great. To see the emotion, even with the expletives, I couldn’t feel better for the guy. And then he ended with a little message to the haters who said he couldn’t get a team over the hump “What can you say now… what can you say now?”

2009 LAKERS vs MAGIC game 6

Now everyone knew who was about to win this series. It was a fact that the magic had NO chance to win.But at the end of game 7 to see kobe jumping who knows how high into the air as the clock wound down was unbelievable.Like so–> http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/multimedia/photo_gallery/0906/lakers.celebrate/images/4.jpg <–

To see all the relief come off his face was just as great as beening able to say Lakers are Champs again. To know the lakers went from not making the playoffs in 2005 to kobe NOT smiling all season in 2009 To the lakers beening back ontop where they rightfully belong

My Favorite moment of a past finals was during the 2006 finals. The heat were playing the Pistons in the eastern conference finals. Earlier that year during the regular season Dwyane wade scored 17 unanswered points to take over the game and help the heat win it. This time it was in the playoffs up 2-1 in the series in a game that would give them control of the series. It was a 62-61 lead and Dwyane Wade came down and hit an unbelievable circus shot with a foul. This gave the Heat the momentum and they never looked back the rest of the game. This moment was one of many that helped propel the Heat to the NBA finals and to a championship.

I am a huge Lakers fan, so I was in shock in ’08. While I maybe knew Boston was better in the back of my mind (we had Vlad Rad in our starting lineup and no Bynum) I didn’t see a 24 point lead turning around, or a 39 point beatdown coming. So in 09 when the Lakers got back, I knew Mamba wouldn’t let another slip away. The moment I won’t forget from that finals is when Kobe drove the ball down the lane, jumped and was fading sideways. Howard came over to block the shot, and kobe, still falling sideways, double pumps and banks it in off the backboard. That shot, was incredible. Marc Jackson: Mama, there goes that man!

  • Marcus

    1998.
    Bulls @ Jazz.
    Chi down 3.
    Jordan scores.
Jordan steals the ball from Malone.
Then Jordan hits the game winner for title #6 and ending Utah’s chance to ever win!!!

The NBA Finals moment that stands out to me is game 4 of last years Finals. Derek Fisher just pulls up and stabs a dagger right through Orlando’s heart. This is the most important to ME because I understood the meaning of the game at its fullest. At this point in my life I am dedicated to basketball more than ever. To see my favorite team and favorite player on that team DRILL a 3 in the Finals was just amazing (no pun intended). That game in my opinion solidified Derek’s importance to the Lakers organization. There have been other greater games, but to me this was the most memorable. Thanks for reading.

Stacked team. Four, sooner-or-later-to-be, Hall of Famers. Shaq, Payton, Malone, and Mamba. Hated this team. On vacation, i sat watching these games, ready to hate the Lakers a little bit more. Pistons took game one, and I’m flabbergasted, sitting on the balcony, looking into the ocean and smiling. But that’s not the moment. I hated the moment at the time, but looking back, it’s what makes KB24, well who he is. Pistons took it in five games and they weren’t close, but game 2 was something special. Kobe was Kobe in the fourth quarter and overtime of this must win game for The Lakers. Rip Hamiton was served a facial by Kobe in the form of a game-tying three, that netted with 2 seconds left. Kobe continued his dominance through overtime as he scored 14 of his 33 in the fourth and fifth quarters. The Lakers went on to lose the next three and we know what happened to the Hall of Fame team after the Final embarrassment, but Game 2 was something for ESPN classic and, the other four games, well maybe that was fuel for something else that will belong in Kobe’s greatest moments.

I could list all highlight and all those game winning last minute shots but that would not add up all the memories I have of my favorite team ~@Lakers wow
Any and every game we have won is my favorite
Everything I saw the laker bench step up and rule with or without #Kobe
The whole team wow !!!! U gotta love the LA Lakers :)

My favorite finals moment is when the celtics win the 08 finals and KG yells anythings possible

  • Anthony

My favorite finals moments was when right after the 6th seeded Rockets swept the favored Magic in the 95 finals, Rudy Tomjanovich said “Don’t ever underestimate the heart of a champion!”

  • Otto

My favorite moment is when Magic Johnson strated at center and won the tip-off to start the game and scoring 42 points, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing out seven assists. legend

I can write a whole lot of good memories in the NBA finals but a good memorie that I loved was “The Shot” by MJ. Another one was just yestarday Celtics vs Lakers game 5 2-2. Since there is only 23 seconds you can have the ball Celtics had to get rid of the ball or it would be a turnover. They shot it and miss everyone thought it would be a turnover ,but no Rondo the shortest guy out in the court jumped and put it in before the buzzer hit 23 seconds.

jordan the shot against ehlo and the shot that ended is career on byron westbrook.

One of my favorite moments in NBA finals history was when Derek fisher threw up a buzzer beater to win the game against the spurs in 2006. My other one was “The Shot” by Michael Jordan. Both were a great performance!

  • http://aol.com bill

The best buzzer beater ever was Lebrons shot against the Magic while he was still in a cavs uniform. –
