As a Celtic fan, buzzer beaters have not been historically kind to us. Gar Heard forced a 3rd OT against us in the greatest game ever played, and Zo eliminated us as a rookie in 93. But in the past couple of years, we’ve had our share too, the most recent being Paul Pierce’s game-winner in Miami. My most memorable by far would be Big Baby in last year’s second round. Without KG, Baby had some big shoes to fill, and trailing by a point in Game 4 on the road, they were on the verge of falling into a 3-1 deficit against the Magic. After setting a screen for Pierce, Baby popped out and made himself open for an 18-foot jumper from the left wing. It was extra special for me because this was an undermanned team that still found ways to win by trusting each other and trusting the system.

As a Laker fan, the earlier part of the decade gave us a much heated rivalry with the northerners of Sacramento. Ill admit now that those Kings gave us fits and Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals was not looking good. Down by as much as 24, a loss at Staples wouldve sent the Lakes back to Sacramento down 1-3 in the series for a possible series clinching Game 5. Down 2, the 2 Alpha Dogs miss their shots and Vlade tips the ball as far away from the basket as he can time winding down towards 0. and the rest is history.

simple “the shot” y’know the one 1989 game 5 first round. Jordan hits the jumper at the buzzer to win the game and the series. Just beautiful.

    1998
    Bulls @ Jazz

1 minute left. Bulls down 3. Jordan drives and scores. Jordan steals the ball from Malone. Jordan nails the game winning 20 footer…

i hope you consider dekimbe mutombo’s buzzer beating block to beat the top seed supersonics. i was a sonic fan that time but still had my eyed glued to the screen as it showed mutombo on the floor, hugging the ball, and crying/laughing at the same time.

Stephon Marbury on the Spurs. Before you react in absolute disgust, allow me to justify my choice. No, this isn’t the best playoff buzzer beater i’ve ever witnessed, but rather, it’s the BEST i’ve seen!! While the majority will more likely suggest one of the many Horry heroics (as should i), i find this buzzer beater more captivating than any other, simply because of Frank Johnson’s reaction. No other coach would have reacted the way he did after a win. Absolute classic. BRING FRANK BACK!!!

matt, thats pretty good man I like ur entry

John Stockton in the 1997 Conference Finals. The shot got him and Malone to the Finals for the first time. Thats got to be the one I remember the most.

Lebron on Orlando 2009 playoffs conference finals

My most memorable playoff moment was the Laker vs Suns series in 05/06. The Lakers forced a turnover on Steve Nash and pushed the ball up to Mamba, who hit an incredibly difficult, and often overlooked, floater. But he wasn’t done. A jump ball at half lands in Kobe’s hands. You could see him measuring the shot the whole way up the court. Raises up for a mid-range jumper, two hands in his face. The Staples Center goes crazy.

Though most of my memorable playoff moments revolve around the G.O.A.T (which is still Jordan btw), I would have to say the Denver Nuggets defeating then #1 seed Seattle was a great moment. Watching Mount Mutombo collapse on the floor with that ball griped tightly in his giant hands showed his passion and love for the game and for winning that series.

Mario Elie, Kiss of Death in game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Phoenix Suns

  • Ali Saadat

The most memorable playoff buzzer beater has to be Derek Fisher’s 0.4. You can hit a jump shot with time left. You can drive to the lane and hit a runner in 5 seconds or so but how difficult is it to shoot at the basket off a pass in under half a second? Derek Fisher stunned San Antonio, LA, and the basketball world from Boston to Beijing. (BTW D-Fish came up clutch again last night).

  • Ryan K

Fisher’s 0.4 second shot is the most memorable playoff buzzer beater. You cannot get any closer to the buzzer than Fish did that night.

  • zion davis

1998 jordan crossover on the jazz and the game winner to win the finals for the third time in a row its unbelievable!he has so many big shots.Another one is the shot against cleveland to end their hopes in the playoffs!UNBELIEVABLE!

2004 West Semi_finals Game 5.. Derek Fisher catch and shoot with 0.4 left on the clock to lead the lakers to a win over the spurs. This happened after Tim Duncan hit a miracle shot that gave the spurs a 1-point lead.

  • Timothy Pete

It would have to be Ray Allen over the Bulls in the 08-09 Playoffs to force another overtime. I was going for Bulls but the Celtics took it but you have to give Bulls credit for giving the previous champs a rough start to the Playoffs

  • Ryan Hamilton

    Robert Horry!! ‘Nuff Said!!!

  • David Emmanuelle Castillo

    Game 4 2005 Western Semi-Finals Lakers v. Suns

“The Black Mamba”hits that mid range buzzer beater to put the Lakers up 3-1 in the series. Its unfortunate they ended up losing that round.
