Dan Gilbert: LeBron Not Dictating Front-Office Moves

The Cavs’ owner told the world yesterday that his superstar isn’t calling the shots in Cleveland. Something, of course, that no one believes. From the Akron Beacon Journal: “Gilbert adamantly denied Tuesday that James is dictating the front-office decisions of the Cavaliers. In his most pointed comments yet, the Cavs owner said James will not be consulted in the coaching search and labeled such conjecture as unfair to both James and the franchise. ‘The concept that LeBron James has been involved in any way, shape or form with firing our head coach, involved in the transition of General Manager Chris Grant and will be involved in future coaching decisions and hires is totally, 100 percent and patently false,’ Gilbert said. ‘He is a basketball player and a great one and his interests are aligned with our interests. But this concept that this franchise has been handed to a player who is running it and making the decisions is just completely and totally false. You’ve got to put an end to [the rumors] sooner or later.”’

and that’s exactly why he might leave.

    Then who is, Maverick Carter?

Good for Gilbert. And I hope he’s being honest. Someone needs to check that cat’s ego, because sitting down with Larry King and planning a whirlwind tour with custom-made Nike’s commemorating each stop is above and beyond ridiculous. Now I haven’t seen confirmation of the Nike thing, but did read it on SI, so assuming that the idea has at least been put out there by Nike and/or Lebron’s camp. Either way, I’m getting a bad feeling that the runaway freight train that is that dude’s ego is going to get even bigger as fans/media/politician/etc all clamor for his services.

Although I should say that LBJ made a pretty good choice to pass up sitting with Geffen for Game 2 of the Finals. That would have taken a ton of focus away from the game, so I give him props for being respectful enough to the Lakers and Celtics for that call.

As a Cavalier fan I must say that if the Cavs want to keep Lebron they have to sign another player who can be his sidekick such as Joe Johnson perhaps.Cuz the players they have been trading for, for the past year or so aren’t helping him out that much. Such as Shaq who really needs to retire.Dan better get Bron some help and a nice contract or he’s off to Chicago.

And the Cavs also need to get Leon Powe and JJ Hickson some playin time.Or else they’ll wanna leave sooner or later. As far as a coach Tom Izzo or Avery Johnson would make a good coach. Now I know I’m putting the blame on the other players on the Cavalier squad but I am aware of Lebron’s performance in the Playoffs and he needs to get better to in crunch time, plus he needs to improve his shot.Instead of getting on stage with Drake he should be improving his game.

Dan Gilbert: I eat my soup with a knife.

  • Brett

So going on stage with Drake means that he isn’t working hard every day? That show probably took like 2-3 hours out of the day..

Do you not realize that Lebron can work out in the mornings and the afternoon? Your a fool

  • JD

So who is higher than the General manager who could do that?

  • sam

no one is actually being Gilbert’s BS, rite??? I mean aint Lebron the “king”…

Shout out to Tarzan “turdburglar” Cooper. You are the sh!t, man!

  • The Philosopher

If The King is dictating the future of the League and people in it… Dan Gilbert HAD to say what he said. He just had to.

phil, i have many more creative names, but im not sharing with you.

To say that LeBron is not dictating front office activity in Cleveland is completely incorrect. Dang it – the
guy is dictating front office activity in EVERY OTHER team with money to spend!?!??!
NYK, LACLIP, MIA, CHICAGO… they are all trying to show themselves ready, willing and able without making it
    look so obvious… crazy.

@Brett I’m a fool? I realize that Bron has a life and I also realize he’s young and still has a lot to learn but if he wants to be the best player in the world he has to work hard each and every day.
