Doc Rivers Will Return to Coach Celtics

With Doc honoring the final year of his contract, it looks like the Celtics are a step closer to putting together one final push for a Title. From the Boston Herald: ” Doc Rivers is not opting out. The Celtic coach will be returning to the club for at least the remaining season on his contract, a source close to Rivers indicated moments ago. The fact Rivers is staying on would seem to be an encouraging sign that the Celtics’ main players will also be back for another season. Rivers was seriously considering a sabbatical from coaching on the grounds that a break would allow him to spend time with his family after six years apart coaching the Celts.”

Wow, i totally expected him to be gone.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

This is good news because maybe Paul (and Ray for that matter) will consider staying.

Sorry Doc, with the squad you have its going to be a 2nd round flameout unless Ainge can work a miracle in FA.

Chicago/Miami/NJ/NY will be too strong for the Celts to repeat as Eastern Conference champs next year.

love how no-one talks about the Magic in the East

  • vtrobot

Nice one, Doc. Here’s to everyone continuing to doubt you and your great team. I’m sure the C’s will be another tough 7 game series for anyone again for at least one more year. @ Overtime: What are they supposed to be talking about?

  • CC413

dont give out on the celtics like everyone did this year.. they still have a shot

  • http://www.springbored.net letsmotor

@overtime: if the Celtics keep everyone and put together another title run, the Magic will be their toughest opponent in the East, so the Magic should get their due. that said, what has there been to talk about? and in response to the article… YES!!!!

  • ccantrell

dont geve out on the celtics like everyone did this year.. they still have a shot

  • Javy

Now that they have Doc, what problems do they face:
    1. old
    2. Pierce having options to leave
    3. Allen not signed yet
    4. old
    5. old
    6. East teams waiting to take them down
    7. Injuries because they’re old
    8. Lebron and company looking for vengance
    9. Did I mention old?… uppss I did, my bad!!

  • slawson

if old takes you to Game 7 of the NBA finals, and spanks 2 out of three of their closest rivals? Bring Shaq!!!

  • ccantrell

they dont need shaq.. only good he would do is to stop howard who the celtics took out 4 games to 2 this year with their own game plan which certainly did not include shaq

  • ccantrell

honestly i hope the bulls sign shaq but only if the get bron and bosh.. noah is an amazing defender but is not near the size of howard which could hurt them in the playoffs.. noah could greatly slow noah and shaq could come off the bench to basically stop him while noah gets his breaks.. thus howard would be pretty much shut down for the whole game

  • AL29

I hope nobody signs Shaq. He hasn’t helped any team win since 2006.

  • ccantrell

@AL29.. if the cavs would have faced the magic in the playoffs this year shaq would have greatly helped them.. he was exactly what they needed in the 09 playoffs as he is pretty much the only player in the L capable of actually shutting howard down

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    good for them.

  • BostonBaller

This is about Doc so why would the /mYES YES YES…SI, SI Sí….JA JA Ja….Da, da-da….Just what the Doc ordered!!! Old Old Old is old old old…..This is about Doc so why would the Magic be mentioned unless he is taking the Fam to The Magic Kingdom?

  • http://www.clownpenis.com Tarzan Cooper

The joker returns. Boston will be interesting next season

  • BostonBaller

..not sure what that means T Cooper but we will be interesting indeed..we were so interesting this year ppl almost forgot to beat us…..

  • http://air-tsinelas.blogspot.com Roy

Co-sign on that one BostonBaller. :D

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Doc should have left at top of his coaching skills, now people will see it was the players and not him. Doc could have gotten any job he wanted in one or two more years. Bad move Doc, should have put family first and not this old team.

I love how people think they’re being funny when they list the Celtics’ problems and say “old” 10 times. Actually, you’re not funny, you just can’t find that many issues with the Celtics. Pierce is almost guaranteed re-signing, I’m betting Allen will too, and as usual the entire world is completely ignoring Rajon Rondo. The Celtics “old” roster took them past the Cavs, Magic (if the Boston beat Orlando this year, what’s stopping the same thing happening next year. Neither of their rosters are about to change much.) I’m sick of people harping on about how much the Celtics suck even after a historic Finals run in which they were doubted in the first round.

@ The Seed: Doc has plenty of coaching skills… keep hating tho & telling him what he should do with his life.
