DWade and LeBron = Jordan and Pippen 2.0

Because the revolution will not be televised…

by Eddie Maisonet, III / @edthesportsfan

With all the rampant speculation for the NBA’s upcoming free agency aka the “Summer of ‘10” I must admit tLeBron James & Dwyane Wadehat at times I get caught up in it all. There are some very intriguing possibilities that could come to fruition on July 1. (Check the new issue of SLAM to see two such possibilities.)

Of course, we all realize who the two most coveted free agents in “the Association” are, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. Wouldn’t it be fascinating to see those two paired up and playing together to go for championships like they are going out of style? I think so. Plus, when we start to look at the blueprint for winning the titles, most prognosticators scream, “YOU NEED AT LEAST TWO SUPERSTARS!” Which I would agree is true, however, maybe the greatest duo and greatest team of all time not only had two superstars, but did it without what I believe the truest need is of a championship caliber team, an elite frontcourt player.

That team would be the Chicago Bulls, and those players were MJ and Pipp. Can DWade and LeBron follow in their footsteps? Here are a couple of reasons why this should happen.

I’m too lazy to look it up, but which teams actually have enough cap space to sign these two? Regardless, the thought of these two on the same team is mouth watering.

Eddie, how you can get up each morning and not equate Luc Longley to an ‘elite frontcourt player’, amazes me…. ^_^

  • kwame

    @cameron is a big loser

If they get a big to go along with said Duo then they will be unstoppable. If not just emulate the Bulls even more. Rotate 3 crappy centers

    won’t happen

  • http://www.twitter.com/retepadam Peter Nygaard

LeBron and Wade would be fine and dandy, but who’s going to be your Kukoc, Rodman, Harper, and Longley?

  • T-Money

Who DOESN’T have a “more natural ability to score the ball” than Bron? I don’t even know what that means. How does that impact the game. This is borderline ridiculous. All year, people have been saying that KD had a more natural ability to score than Bron and yet he couldn’t buy a bucket down the stretch against LA.

  • Ben

Who care if you ability to score the ball is natural or not. As long as you can score, its all that matters.

If they wanted to make it happen, they would. If all they care about is the money, it won’t happen. Simple as that. It would be great to see both of them on the same team though. I think the whole NBA landscape would jump on that bandwagon…

  • namik

    Who’s the Pippen here?

  • Hangtime Hec

It just wont happen. They just don’t complement each other.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

    namik, Pippen is obviously LeBron.

  • LD

Wade is Jordan, LeBron is Ron Harper

The Lebron/Wade combo would be great! But sometimes having 2 superstars on the team doesn’t work out. Kobe and Shaq showed us that it sometimes doesn’t work out. But if this Lebron/Wade combo could come to be it would great!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

^Stephon. Did you completely disregard the fact they also won 3 Championships together?

  • JD

funny how someone who goes by the name of “Kwame” just called someone else “a big loser” lol

Hey come one now, the Bulls had an elite center! Robert Parrish in ’97! OK, so he was like 200 years old by the time we got him, but still…oh, and DWade/Bron duo is not gonna happen.

  • Cool Dude

There is no way in hell this would work unless there are two basketballs. Lebron is a ball hog. Did you even see his face when Wade was doing better than him at the all star game? He started chucking up shots to try to match Wade (still failed though.)

yo id love to play with my boy dwade.. yo man we could come back with vengance man yo nba lookout haHA…o damn my elbows flarin up gtg pce yo

  • Jesse Dunns Ghost

Love the “HNIC” refererence for riley!!! lol

  • hoodsnake

Shaq can be The Chef Robert Parish by dishing up airballs. Plus he played with both of them?

  • DreXnaW21

D Wade & LeBron will be unstoppable but Kobe can take them both :P

It’s a shame for everyone how diluted the League has become – more teams equals thinner rosters which are then hampered even further by superstars clamouring for the highest possible contract which cripples the team’s ability to get more quality players. Look at the two teams in the Finals. Both have multiple superstars who were willing to sacrafice for the good of the team. Why don’t more athletes realise that individual glory is insignificant when compared to acheiving victory as a team?

  • hoodsnake

Seriously though the Knicks is the only one who has enough loot to pull this off (and maybe get a player like Boozer and a second unit anchor) so its a 3% chance of this happening this year

  • alley

    Dear SLAM,

The article was OK, but what’s up with this two page cr*p? You’re better than this!

  • http://dfsjklf.com Jukai

If anyone don’t think Lebron and Wade could coexist, then they don’t watch basketball. Period. Kobe and Shaq are both top five in their positions, and they won 3/4ths of their championships together.
There’s no reason Wade and Lebron can’t get together and win three or four championships together. If they can’t, that’s fine, but let them freaking try.

  • http://www.nba.com/suns Dacre

I think if they were on the same team, Wade would end up being the leading ppg player of the two, but not by much. Either way, it’s play for rings together or battle it out seperately for scoring titles…. with black salsa laughing all the way to the HOF…with his jaw jutting out all ugly douche like…

  • http://slamonline.com Stephon

@niQ no I didn’t forget that they won 3 chips together but I was refering 2 the off the court issues that Kobe and Shaq had.And that sometimes two big egos on the team can cause problems,Kobe and Shaq are the exception cause even though they had problems off the court they got da job done on da court.

  • WolfNast

    Wade is definitely Jordan

  • http://slamonline.com JL

wade would be a lesser jordan, while lebron would be a greater pippen.

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

This is happening, in mia, riles will coach, thanks very much erik, now slide over. Why u think bron switches to 6? The east will be theirs for the next 6 yrs. Who will be able to knock them off? Nobody

  • James

Wade and Lebron could make it work because they both are great passers. Did you see DWade and Lebron in the all-star game? Wade won the All-Star MVP!! He’s such a great passer and he beat Kobe’s Lakers with a double/double of 27 points and 14 assists. Wade and Lebron are both selfless and they don’t need the attention that Kobe/Shaq needed. Wade is the best SG in the NBA and Lebron is the SF in the NBA, hands down!
