Dwyane Wade Spends Time With Bosh, Johnson

by Tzvi Twersky

It’s getting old and it hasn’t even begun yet.

Free Agency 2010, hyped since at least 2008, finally begins in under three weeks. For now, though, all we can do is to continue to perpetuate gut feelings, rumors and player sightings.

Today’s fuel was thrown on the fire of speculation by the South Florida Sun Sentinel:

For [Dwyane] Wade, it was the latest stop in a whirlwind week that included time in Los Angeles with Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh and Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson, who also stand as impending free agents.

Wade confirmed that he did, indeed, have dinner there with Bosh and that he spent time at a Brand Jordan event with Johnson. But he insisted he has not been out recruiting.

“I haven’t started recruiting yet,” Wade said with a smile, as fans cheered his arrival at a Publix supermarket.

Wade has consistently fostered the perception that he not only plans to return to the Heat, but that he is hopeful of being joined in South Florida by another prime free agent.

That creates more than a few curious glances when he is seen with the likes of a Bosh.

“My friends are the guys that are in the league,” he said. “Some of my closest friends in the NBA happen to be certain guys that are up in this free-agent market. Yeah, it’s going to be like that. Like I said, I don’t worry about it. I smile and I keep on going with my day.

“Me and Chris have been friends since we came into the NBA. We signed with the same agent. So we can’t eat together? It’s all good. We understand what’s going to come about from anything that goes on. But, no worries, it’s just friends eating dinner.”

Is it, Dwyane? Is it really?

    a “Brand Jordan” event?

  • barnabusb

I’d feel pretty good about the media coverage if I was Wade. While everyone is saying, “Where will LeBron go?” everyone else is saying, “Okay, who’s going to Miami with Wade?” It seems a bit more prestigious to have players come to you instead of you just bouncing around to another team.

Wade and Joe Johnson in Miami? They are both shooting guards. Don’t really think he is recruiting him. Bosh in Miami would be nice. The Heat would still not have a good post defender other than Haslem. Also pretty sure that Stern is actively trying to find a way to fine players for being friends.

I’m almost more interested in seeing where the role players and 2nd tier free agents end up this summer: Nate Robinson, Travis Outlaw, Drew Gooden, Jermaine O’neal, T-Mac, Al Harrington, Mike Miller, Shaun Livingston…Allen Iverson!!

I normally refuse to make predictions, but I can see Bosh In Miami. Then I can see Ray Allen in Miami. I don’t like being wrong, though. We’ll see.

so Tzvi, you say its getting old and yet your guys main story and cover for SLAM 140 was about all this?

  • JD

Miami should keep wade, sign LeBron and Bosh, kick the rest of the players out and replace them with the garbages from D-League

  • JoeMaMa

@rainman10: of your group, I’m most interested in Travis Outlaw. That guy has gotten better and better and I think he can be a real contributor. Drew Gooden can do some things, and T-Mac could surprise, but at the end of the day I think Travis Outlaw can be a GREAT 3rd/4th option on a top team.

What if Wade pulls an Elton Brand and gets Bosh to sign in Miami, and then leaves for some other team, like Brand did to Baron Davis.

I say screw Bosh. Keep Jermaine, get David Lee and Travis Outlaw and a shooter…Korver, or Mike Miller.

Jo johnson has disappeared during the playoffs the past 2 seasons. His handles are suspect and the jimmy seems questiona le during the 2nd season

How about Wade gets Bosh and Lebron gets Amare? That’s be sick. Just for fun, Johnson can get Boozer.

    I like Jukai’s scenario

@jukai +100, but the lebron amare has smallest chance of happening. and besides would your pheonix really let amare go?

How about Wade and Lebron on the same f*cking team? That’d be more fun to watch than any other team in the L.

I like the chances of Bosh landing in a lakers uniform. I hear bout trading Bynum for Bosh but with the way these finals are playing out it would make sense to trade Gasol for Bosh. Colangelo would jump on that in a minute if he knew he couldn’t keep Bosh.

ray allen is what wade needs
