Dwyane Wade Won’t Participate in World Championships

Dwyane Wade is facing a hectic schedule, one that won’t include a trip to Turkey for the World Championships this summer, which he revealed to the South Florida Sun Sentinel on Saturday.

Wade previously had cited a busy summer schedule, which includes his impending free agency, as well as child-custody and divorce cases in Chicago. His divorce case, if not resolved in advance, is scheduled for trial during the same timeframe as the World Championships.

“I understand that this is a very challenging summer, but a very important summer for me,” Wade said, as hundreds waited for an autograph session at a Publix supermarket, some arriving more than seven hours before the start of the event. “I’m just taking it one step at a time and that’s all I can do. And the biggest thing is, I’m getting things behind me. I’m getting able to move forward with my life.

“And that’s the most important part for me and my family, is to move forward with my life. So I’ve been able to recharge my battery, whenever I’m with (sons) Zaire and Zion. They’ve been the ones that really have kept me afloat, kept me smiling and kept me looking forward to things.”

Wade, Dwight, LeBron, Kobe. Who am I leaving out? Doesnt really matter, it’s just if you’re supposed to commit for 3 years, do it

    “Zaire and Zion” – wow.

  • cp3fan

D-Wade, LeBron, and Kobe did commit for 3 years….06, 07 and 08. Kobe was hurt in 06 so he didn’t play. A divorce case is much more important than a basketball tournament.

He should rest his legs like he’s going to do. It will help prolong his career and he will not risk injury.

I can’t fault him. I’ve decided not to play in the World Championships too.

  • deano

mee too MikeC….I’ll be with the boys in spirit though so it don’t really matter

  • deano

my squad: CP3, Brandon Roy, Kevin Durant, Lamarcus Aldridge, Al Jefferson/Roy Hibbert, anyways thats all i can think of, the stars look to be sitting out for this one…can’t blame em

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

@deano: that team is enough to win the worlds but really lacks a good defensive center…cant think of anyone either

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

someone like Noah or Bogut…oh wait..

there are more important things than basketball

  • L

Brook Lopez should be the best center available. L

    Cmon guys!
-just go to the NYC thing

  • jj reddick

hes living his life leave him alone yall idiots

  • Mitya

lol, at this rate, it might actually come down to Roy Hibbert (really, deano?) staring at center

  • deano

hey Mitya, remember the USA used to send college kids out their for the Olympics. Roy’s done great with the little minutes he’s been able to come across. The World’s would be the perfect platform for him, if they were to look his way. Of Course David Lee is an option, but I just feel like he’s too undersized and not a great enough defensive presence.

bron out, wade out, melo is getting married..kobe is unsure but i have a feeling he is going to get his finger fixed..he should be excused! durant and roy should be able to handle this..if not…neither should have sig shoe..period!

Understand Wade and LeBron’s option to opt out of the World Championships. Though I wish other NBA players were just as excited about the World Championships so that they can promote the game world wide and make it just as big as the World Cup. Basketball World Championships go unheard of here in Australia.
