Kevin McHale Wants to Coach the Bulls

McHale expects an interview to see if he can take over for Vinny Del Negro in Chi-town. Rejoice, Bulls fans! (Or not.) From the Sun-Times: “Kevin McHale brought himself right back toward the center of the evolving swirl known as the Bulls search for a new head coach Tuesday afternoon. During a TNT Sports media conference call about the upcoming NBA Finals, the all-time Boston Celtics great said that he expects to be interviewed for the job by Bulls executive vice president – basketball operations John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman. ‘Yeah, I suppose that,’ McHale said. ‘We’ve had some just primary discussions and I’ve talked to both Gar and Pax a little bit. So, I mean, we’ll see where it goes from there. ‘As far as Chicago goes, everybody, I think, would like that job,’ McHale said. ‘It’s a good young team. They’ve got [Derrick] Rose, they’ve got other good young players, they have free agency, full money under the [salary] cap. I think there’s a lot of positives there. But again, I guess that’s just going to be a wait-and-see thing. I think they’re going to interview a lot of people and it’ll be up to Pax and Gar Forman to make that decision.’”

Kevin did an ok job when he had the chance in Minny; but I thought he didnt want to coach??? He complained abt the riggors of the job while in minny (or was this due to the fact he built a so-so squad there)… W/ Salary Cap space, Derrick Rose, Noah, Deng and others… Kevin may succeed here, but he may not be there long either (either thru firing or resignation)… I like Kevin on TV and he should stay there

McHale? Coaching Bulls? NOOOOOOOO! He ruined the Twolves. He cant coach. He thinks he can coach. He aint gonna get respect from any of the players. And why the frick is Doug Collins coaching? Coaching in the NBA is different now from back then. Now, you need to have a little swagger, unlike Doug and McHale.

He should get the job and bring Webber with him as an assistant.

avery johnson would be a perfect fit for the bulls coaching post… :)

The Bulls org has loyalty to former Celtics???

Good luck, Kevin. Great player, good commentator, mediocre coach, and horrible GM.

This is a horrible idea. If GarPax goes for this, the MJ statue will always have a Hawks jersey over it as there won’t be any bulls fans left: http://tinyurl.com/2cvpbdq

Let him mess up,I mean coach the Bulls and bring GP back on Tuesday nights.

  • Diesel

I’m giving up supporting the Bulls if they announce McHale as their new coach.

  • Hussman25

Wonder how MJ feels having a Reebok Jersey on his Statue… (Just came from the Chi) That was so disrespectful!

Bulls can’t be that dumb. Can they?

  • LD

@Wat Misaka- I completely agree. Webber can even be in charge of the timeouts.

I don’t remember Kevin being that bad in Minny, I mean the talent level was just atrocious. A good coach in the NBA is basically someone that don’t eff sh– up and gets results according to the talent he is given. I’d be thrilled for McHale to coach Chicago if Bron goes there just so that he can get his a– on the low block.

He should be an assistant smoewhere and work with big men. Dwight Howard? I would prefer him to Ewing. Anyways probably wouldn’t be a good head coach, but I think he would be a great teacher for pretty much any big around the league. Maybe if Lebron goes to Chi he can teach him some post moves.

I don’t know about him being our coach, but he can be the dude in charge of big men…imagine Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson learning post moves from McHale? Ooh-wee!

This just in the Bulls don’t want McHale to coach them. Of all the teams I think the Bulls realize they are one of the most attractive teams for the coaching pool out there. They are going to take there time and get someone good in the end.

I think this would be a great move for the Bulls but only if the don’t get a big name in free agency. If they keep the core of their team now and get one or two cheaper pieces (young 2 guard and a big man that play both the 4 and 5) they could be a really good young team. In McHale’s last season with the Wolves they went on a hot streak before Big Al got injured, he had the full respect of the players and he would help Noah, Gibson and Warrick with their post games

  • Diesel

They got rid of Vinny because they wanted a proven, play-off tested coach. You don’t get rid of a mediocre coach just to replace him with another one.

Tom Thibodeau is still my top pick, and he should be the Bulls’ as well.

I agree with Diesel. They need more than McHale.

As somebody else noted, McHale didn’t WANT to coach in Minnesota but now he’s all gung-ho about coaching?
That’s a helluva an up and under by the wiley vet
