Lakers vs Celtics: Game 7 is Here

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Well, here we are.

History is at our doorstep. And it’s time to let it in.

Or something to that effect.

Twelve hours from now, the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics will square off in the last possible game of the NBA season, and one of these teams will be crowned as this year’s champion.

It couldn’t have been scripted any better.

Both squads are very confident heading into the matchup; Glen Davis more or less guaranteed a victory for the C’s, and according to Jordan Farmar, Kobe Bryant assured his teammates following Game 5 that the Lakers were going to win two in a row at home and the title.

The time for tired story lines, subplots and clichés has come and gone. It’s time for the two best teams in the L to do battle for the ultimate prize.

I can’t wait for tonight’s game, and strongly suspect that all of you feel the same.

Will be 22 Hrs here in São Paulo, Brasil (yes, with an ‘s’). Will be watching this mouthwatering encounter. Before the series I said C’s in 7, so gotta stick with that. The loss of Perk hurts, but PP, RayRay and Rondo will be gunning. Gasol is the key for LA, hope he chokes on some bad paella. Go Irish!

This is a throwback game on soo many levels, I’m glad the seeds get to c what it was like virtually thruought the golden era of the NBA in the 80′s. When you had Legendary teams like the Dr J/ Malone Sixers, a young Michael Jordan & the Bulls, the “bad boys” from Detroit, the Larry bird era C’s, and of course “showtime”. These teams are both stacked with great players, several future hall of famers, and two of the best coaches on the sidelines. Young cats have a game, a series, they can look back on and know they were a part of something historic to the game. I’m watching this one with my little newborn son, just a few days old. I’m just gratefull we still have guys like KG, Fisher, Pierce & Kobe who thru thier fierce drive, work ethic and determination keep the traditon of greatness alive in the NBA. Here’s to a great series, And rivalry. Lakers for Revenge and the title!

3 am here too, from France. But that’s a game 7! I hope it’ll be a very nice and close game, like +6 LA at the end of the 3rd, and then +10 with 2:00 remaining, then 3 threes from Ray Allen… and a big rebound for Gasol followed by a 2+1 or 3 the normal way by Kobe with 30 seconds remaining, in order to avoid too many heartfailures.
    Please bring me that!
Or a Scalabrine buzzer beater would be nice too =).

    GO LA!!

  • Nick the Quick

Slam is definitely hoppin tonight/today (whatever time zone you’re in. It’ll 8pm Central here in the cornfields of Iowa. Go Lakers!!( SlamadaFinals: The Machine on KG!)

  • Irfan

By the way if Celtics win -God (or Kobe, or Marianne) forbis- who can be their Finals MVP? I don’t see anybody else but Doc Rivers or Kobe Bryant, the two only very good guys for the entire series. Kobe was just a little under his average for this Finals in game 4 but he’s been brilliant in all the others. Rondo has not had a stunning performance and doesn’t have good overall numbers (see FT%, 23,5); KG and PP were shadows in the first games; Ray Allen had two good games.

  • The Philosopher

@BostonBaller: That sounds like a plan. I’ll be in Boston before long. Big shout out.

  • BostonBaller

@Negativekreep, I’m loving this series and even though it’s not quite 80′s it’s as close as we can get. you were right on point with those teams you mentioned then there were the teams that literally scared those teams to death. The Bucks with Moncrief, Johnson Sikma, Lanier and company. The Hawks w/ Dom, Doc and a host of crazy athletes, even the Knicks provided excitement featuring The True King..Bernard. The West was wilder than it is now. Man I miss those days but this game will make me forget about them for a while. All phones will be off, the internet put to sleep, the door bell disconnected and the house off limits so I can watch and go nuts for a few hours. have fun folks, I’m out. GREEN for 18….

    What a great series.

  • http://www.laumol.nl/weblog Laumol

It was well worth staying awake for. For the love of basketball… Nice to see Bill Russell, Kareem, Magic and Kobe and Pau with a Larry’O. Now get some sleep everybody. Good luck to the Celtics to keep the team together next season and be a contender. Peace y’all

Shout out to Bostonballer, yo I know ur hurting right now. I know exactly how u feel. I wish that feelng on noone. Soo much passion on both sides…This is STILL the greatest rivalry in all of sports and tonight proves it. The tradition, (onboth sides) the legacies, the hatred, the respect. It wouldn’t b one without the other. Ying and yang. Don’t really know what else to say, just blessed & thankfull for the greatest free entertainment the common man can afford. Just grateful to be alive, to enjoy this greatest of games & my lifes passion the game of basketball.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Well said Negetivekreep… The bittersweet ending to every Finals leaves an empty feeling after when there’s 3 months of basketball withdrawal…

Congrats to my homies in Laker Nation, job well done. Congratulations to the C’s and their fans for a great run and series. Hope everybody is age. New era of C’s vs LA is 1-1. Let’s see if we can make it happen again next year. Next up, Draft Day and FA. This should be good. Enjoy summer guys!
