LeBron To Meet with Six Teams, Nets First

by Ryne Nelson

LeBron James is planning on meeting with six teams over the first three days of free agency as he attempts to achieve his championship aspirations.

Although the Bulls seem to be early favorites, the competition to win his services will be steep. James’ idol and mentor Jay-Z and billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov will make the first presentation to LeBron on July 1 in Ohio.

Via Yahoo!:

LeBron James is planning to invite six teams to meet him over the first three days of free agency, and rap mogul Jay-Z and Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov will be part of a New Jersey Nets contingent that will make the first presentation on July 1 in the Akron, Ohio, area, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

James and his advisors plan to have the Nets, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers make presentations. Yahoo! Sports first reported on Thursday night that James would be taking appointments with teams on July 1 to begin his free-agency process.

LeBron wants to keep the focus on basketball and believes hosting teams in Ohio can prevent the recruitment process from turning into a spectacle. The Knicks planned to host James for a large dinner party catered by a celebrity chef in Manhattan.

James’ decision throws a wrench in his suitor’s plans to lure him to play for their city.

I think that is a smart idea. Why wade through throngs of hysterical masses when you can just chill on your own couch and hear the pitches?

it hasn’t started yet, but im already tired in all of this.

  • cp3fan

He would be stupid to go to New Jersey or New York. He’s going to have to start winning championships next season or the season after that if he wants to truly be a so-called king when his career is over. He’s not going to win anything in New Jersey or New York. His best bet is to go to Chicago if they don’t go for Bosh and Johnson.

  • kriz

its not james’s fault that he gets so much press. the media oos and aahhs at his every move

The Philosopher is “the seed” of Lebron commentators. He is special.

Don’t worry Phil … he is the King, nobody will take that away from him. Considering that is about all he has to remind himself. Oh, and the crown he bought for himself.

chi town is the most likey destination for bron and also for bosh.. the bulls would then have star rose, king james, long deng, star bosh, hustle noah, as well as energy guys off the bench james n gibson.. if the bulls do indeed get bron and bosh it would be wise to seek the services of a big time shooter they could sign at the mid-level such as ray allen.. lebron wants shooters and ray ray is 2nd to none in peremiter shooting and could also provide leadership in a way that only a scarred vet such as himself can.. in next years draft maybe draft a couple of solid bench shooters this is an unstoppale team

Lebron is going to start wearing a hand puppet around that looks like himself, Mr. Garrison style. The only way anyone can speak to “The King” is through his hand puppet. Which in return will relay the message back to “The King”.

I hope he goes to the clippers. People need to know about Eric Gordon.

  • Yesse

This is so dumb. Like it’s a LeBron exhibition or something. They never did this to MJ or Kobe.

  • S-Man

The Clippers are the sleeper team in all this. They have alot of pieces that would really compliment James’ game..

  • The Philosopher

@Yesse: The last part of tour comment at 1:34p.m. is… the MOST truthful statement in the history of my time here posting comments on The Great SLAM. This is indeed the only time in the history of basketball that it’s going down like this. He IS… THE KING.

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

I have faith in Proky and Jay-Z. They are both bussiness men, so they might have 99 problems but the pitch ain’t one.

  • RV

Presentation? I can look up each team’s roster within seconds, as well as their staff, history, cap situation, etc. There’s no need for any stinkin’ presentations. He should already know where his best fit is. The only thing that’s needed is a face to face meeting to discuss salary

  • T-Money

So basically people would have killed him if he ad gone into a recruiting tour and they’re killing him if all teams come to Cleveland.

  • Diesel

Philospher…I’m not trying to be funny when I ask is something seriously wrong with you? Like do you have a condition or something? I picture you as being the Kevin Spacey character in Seven…with pictures of LBJ acting as the wall paper in your studio apartment. On to my comment…Now with both the heat and bulls almost gaurenteed to get 2 free agents, that means the best the cavs would do if lebron came back is 4th in the east behind orlando, the bulls, and the heat. If he goes back to the cavs he’s never winning a championship.

  • ktokyo

    To echo someone else’s comment:

Period. Have fun with the Lebron slurping tour.

  • The Philosopher

@Diesel: No, no, I don’t have a diagnosed condition, or anything. I don’t live in a studio apartment, either. My living situation is… ‘quite different’ from a studio apartment dwelling. But, that isn’t important.
I’m just a member of the mass audience who is NOT in denial when it comes down to which player ACTUALLY rules the NBA. It is The King. It has been, it is, AND it WILL BE… until he retires.

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Cheryl

Okay, don’t everyone jump on this comment at once: if LBJ REALLY wants to contend for multiple rings, then he NEEDS to come to Miami. Wade is the ONLY player among the free agents with the tenacity and killer instinct to bring his team a ring. Bron doesn’t have it, as athletically talented as he is. Bosh doesn’t have it, although he thinks he does. Do I even need to talk about Boozer, Nowitsky, Johnson? So, if he decides to go anywhere else, it’s not about the rings. But pair him with DWade and decent defenders who can hit set up shots (Ray Allen?) and a post player who can block shots and rebound, and the you’ll be calling the Heat a dynasty.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

This is actually a smart move, surprise to see the Clippers in the mix, it doesn’t matter anyway. Lebron will make a poor decision and stay in Cleveland and end up being the biggest bust in basketball history. BOOK IT!!!

  • ripslam

Where the hell did Michael Scorn go. I kinda miss his half-funny half-ridiculous comments. I have LBJ going to either New Jersey or Chicago.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    James the Balla
You can’t use “the seed” without my permission. You lucky you are a Lakers fan like me or I would have to plant something in this comment section at you.

  • Rickster

“LeBron wants to keep the focus on basketball and believes hosting teams in Ohio can prevent the recruitment process from turning into a spectacle.”
Just one comment: Give me a break. The man is all about turning things into a spectacle, he doesn’t give a f*ck about basketball anymore.
So what if hes not going on that tour and teams are coming to cleveland instead? Its the same LBJ circus.

  • JTaylor21

Com’on the seed, the biggest bust in basketball history. Wow, since when does winning 2 straight MVPs, and possessing countless records and putting up legendary numbers classifies you as a bust let alone the biggest bust in history. All those who hate bron have a deep seeded hatred of the man like he ran thru their moms, sisters and auntes. So guys like Stockton, Malone, Barkley, and Wilkins are busts while kwame, olowakandi, millic are all-time greats. Plus bron isn’t even half-way through his career and his already a bust huh. Dont let your boiling hate for the man even though you have never met him cloud your judment about his skills and talents okay.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

I didn’t say that analyst have said that time and time again. Watch more basketball shows and read other websites please, because of all the hype. He has to win titles because everyone wants him to be compare to MJ, but first lets try to get to Kobe. So he needs rings, or his career is a waste. MVP’s don’t matter or stats, he needs rings man. Ask Karl Malone to me he is better than Tim Duncan, but no rings mean no comparison for most Basketball minds, so he gets left out and Karl had MVP’s and alot of stats. BOOK IT!!!

  • The Philosopher

Many a people have trouble AND difficulties when discussing the truth about The King. The truth being that, he is simply the greatest basketball player in the world, that he, right now, has singularly the most profound influence over all things in the basketball landscape as we know it, that he may indeed become the first billion dollar basketball player, etc. That reality is hard for many people of the masses to accept AND embrace, for many feel that Kobe Bryant should be bestowed such distinction and adulation. But he isn’t, so…
We are bearing witness, basketball fans. As hard as it may be to swallow for many… LeBron is the one.

  • andynorstrom

we talk about kobe and lebron, but will anyone ever better Darko’s accomplishments?

  • andynorstrom

By the way, all of the hype around LeBron James’ career is so lame- if the media hype him up this much we will all be dissapointed when he doesn’t equal or better MJ. Lebron’s one of the most purely talented players of all time, but nobody deserves to be put under this much pressure.

  • RedRum

I am willing to bet that Durant will have a ring before lebron…

  • chi town

Derrick rose at pg, LBJ at sg, Luol deng at sf,chris bosh at pf,and joahkim noah at center. Once the bulls franchise tell james that dis could be the line up for 2011 don’t y’all think it’ll be almost impossible for him to turn that down? Plus we giving you “and” bosh max contracts. Come on people, its very easy to see that lebron is coming to chicago and win “atleast” seven chips. Nobody can beat a line up like that, so I hope kobe is enjoying his last ring to the fullest. Check out our sendlebrontochicago.com web site “and” pages on facebook and twitter of the same name. We deep people!! For you heat fans LBJ will never sign with the heats cuz it’ll be a issue of who’s the star player and who gets the ball at the end of games and neither player would be cool with that.

  • vanillagorrila

Man the Clips need a new owner. Its starting to get difficult to keep losing.

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

If Durant can fill out in the next few years then LeBron might have to look behind his shoulder. While not as crazy athletic, Durant is a better basketball player I believe.

Also, Gerard Himself, that was one of the best comments of all time.

  • nastierthanu

Ok let’s not get crazy durant is highly talented but he’s not a better player than lebron. Lebron is a beast and his nice guy personality which has been taylor fit since the 10th grade is likeable which is the reason, along with amazing physical gifts, that the world wide media is riding him so tuff, but when its all said and done. He will not retire with more rings than kobe and he has yet to develop the skill set that kobe has. He deserves all of the attention he’s receiving right now. The guy is the face of the nba, but he aint the finals mvp!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

lol thanks seed. Using it in a reference because you are a hardcore Kobe fan. That is all. Smiles all around!!

  • smokez4dayz

No one knows who the next great team will be, no one can say Lebron is making a mistake coming to NYC, no one can forsee the future, like everything in sports, you fans are terrible at predicting and fantastic at second guessing. Its been awhile since I’ve listened to any so called expert or fanboy, none of you are ever right. I think the only place Lebron ever wanted to go was NYC, it might have nothing to do with basketball. Yes the private meetings are better than the shmoooze job, I hope more ny hate will arrive from all you out of towners when the lbj joins the knicks. Just like Rex and the Jets. Yall non-nyers alwasy hate to see US have something.

  • smokez4dayz

And yes Durant is the better basketball player. REAL NBA people KNOW this. Lebron is a freak, a god like, freak of nature, But Durant is the REAL DEAL. Very much in the discussion. its not crazy talk. Im a Knicks fan that wants LBJ and Im telling you, Durant has the tools to the be the best in the NBA right now, and he’s 22!

  • http://www.threadsandkicks.com.au Eduardo

Why does everybody break it down to rings? Fisher has 5 rings. Does that make him better than Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, John Stockton, Chris Paul, Tim Hardaway… should I continue here?

Kobe’s one of the greatest but people really need to get over the rings debate. Kobe has Gasol, Lebron had an aging Shaq, no show Mo Williams and Parker in the playoffs, Jamison who left his 20+ points per game back in Washington.

Back to the Lebron, he’s got Donald Trump style power here with teams coming to visit him.

  • Groves

@JACO, im also a heat fan and i fully agree, unless toronto can resign bosh, in which case that can be considered a win, in that he’s expected to leave.

  • phil

doesn’t matter where he goes, he aint gunna win a championship

C’mon hows daurant better than bron riddle me that. Yall must not have watched
the lakers series. Durant struggled all series long to even dribble the ball against ron artest,
his so-called jumpshot was no where to be found. Do you think that a 22yr old lebron
would have struggled that bad against the lakers. i think not. Lebron was a better passer, finisher
defender, ball-handler and winner than durant is right now at 22. Plus didnt lebron lead a lesser
talented team than durant’s to the finals. You guys really must have amnesia because lebron in
his 3rd yr put up 31/7/7 with ease. Until durant shows that his nothing more than a scorer, he
will never be on lebron level. Comprende

@the philosospher:but hes not dominating the NBA is he? I’m pretty sure he hasnt played since the second round?

  • james

lebron is such an arrogant ass.

  • The Philosopher

    @Overtime: He’s dominating… THE WORLD.

  • The Great White Hope

Lebron is just a freak athlete. He is a good basketball player but I don’t think his skill set is more fluid than guys like durant, kobe, and dirk. Put it this way if amare stoudamire never got hurt and developed a jump shot him and lebron james would have almost the same type of game.

All you lebron blowhards forget his turnovers too. He throws the dumbest passes and the worst times, and you guys are trying to compare him to kobe bryant?

Kobe, with or without shaq still has 5 titles. And will prob finish with six when its all said and done. Wade will prob win more titles than lebron when its all said and done

  • http://bleacherreport.com/users/42594-hoops4life Overtime

    @ Philospher…but then again, more accurately…he’s not.

  • The Philosopher

To The Great Masses Of SLAM:
In case some of us haven’t realized this reality of things, I’ll just merely attempt to educate. Who in the history of The NBA has EVER amassed a League wide courting from top NBA executives, owners, presidents, vice presidents, etc… to come to one player’s back yard at the same time to make The King believe that he should come play for their team?
This Young king has the world’s most POWERFUL politicians courting, ooing, ahhing, what have you.

  • The Philosopher

Never in the History of… SPORTS has this thing ever gotten to this magnitude. It is what it is This,
my fellow brethren, is an undertaking that is… ALMOST bigger than basketball. In many ways, IT IS bigger than basketball.
At the end of the day, there is no denying that LeBron is in fact, The Top Dog (King). And IF he happens to win a ring, and in reality all he needs is one ring… It would be the end of a many a conversation.

  • The Philosopher

Now, one more thing for my internet friends… I’ve said this before, I will again say it with passion AND good intentions:
Michael Jordan, AND especially Kobe Bryant have never in their respective careers have generated such a product that is in such high demand. This is the truth.
Also the truth, after this phase of The King’s Legacy is written and passed… He may never live up to that hype from a basketball standpoint to some, but in reality, it won’t even matter. Period.

  • Dead Astaire

Man, take it easy on LBJ, remember, it took the actual king (MJ) about 7 years to finally get his first ring, Lebron will get one and possibly more, he won’t be going out like Barkley or Karl Malone (ringless). I think he could do it in Cleveland, if they can land Bosh or Stoudemire, but I dont see that happening, another thing is if Lebron wants to get back to the finals, he needs to ressurect that killer instinct he had a few years ago, he made it to the finals with less then, than he has had the past three seasons. Yeah, hometown hero and all that, but maybe Lebron doesn’t want to be sheltered like that anymore and he wants to spread his wings, and if his fans are truly his fans, they should cheer him on no matter where he goes. Noah was right “Whats so good about Cleveland?”, other than Lebron, not much and I that is why i sense such a great desperation from that spot on the map, they need to stop putting so much pressure on him out there. In order to be a king, you have to be a man first, so let him do that so he can truly be crowned.
