Rudy Fernandez Trade Options: Toronto, Houston

According to NBA.com and The Oregonian, the Blazers are in talks with both the Rockets and Raptors about moving the perennially unhappy Rudy Fernandez in exchange for picks tonight: “The Portland Trail Blazers continue to have discussions with several teams about reserve guard Rudy Fernandez, who has fallen out of favor with Coach Nate McMillan and has been seeking a trade for almost a year. The most serious suitors at the moment are the Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets, with Toronto offering its first-round pick, the 13th pick overall, as part of a package. Chicago and Washington have also expressed interest in Fernandez, 25, who was acquired from Phoenix in 2007 on Draft night and signed with Portland the following summer. The Bulls would like to move their first-round pick, 17th overall, for Fernandez. The Wizards offered guard Nick Young for Fernandez but were turned down. Earlier reports that the Knicks were serious contenders for Fernandez were overblown.”

The Raptors 13th pick!?!?! FOR RUDY?!?!? HELLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
and besides, we already have the exact same player in Marco Belinelli

I’d be happy with the 13th pick for rudy. He is loved in portland but i think he would be a better fit in toronto. Also he is significantly better than belinelli.

    Pass.

  • BackInBlack

Word, this would be so stupid for Toronto, niQ is exactly right.

@niQ – rumours I read were that it was Rudy + 22nd pick for our #13. If that’s the case, do it, and pick up a project big (Hassan Whiteside?) with the 22. This team needs to rebuild if(when) Bosh, Hedo, and Jose get moved.

I live in Portland and love Rudy. He’s not an All-Star, but he is exciting as long as he doesn’t simply turn into a spot-up three-point shooter, which unfortunately is what he has become in Portland. As a Bulls fan I would love to see him in Chi-Town. Him and Rose would be a crazy exciting backcourt, although Rudy is not really a renowned defensive stopper, so I can’t say that his addition would make Chicago that much better, just more exciting.

nothing against Rudy, but theres already one too many Euros in Toronto, and I don’t want another shooting guard who can’t play defense and is inconsistant, plus we already have Jose Calderon….which i hope we can get rid of this season…

  • Str8in It Out

Sounds like a Colangelo move. This would make so much sense in his own head. Bellinelli should develop into more of a PG with his drive & kick skills and Rudy is more of a SG but they are pretty damned similar. HAHA This would be a terrible move.

I hope whoever trades for him realizes he can be a great 6th man but they’re going to be disappointed if they think he’ll be a solid starter.

in an open system, rudy would be good to decent. in the roy offense, rudy is just a shooter who gets bored waiting.

  • Rocko

Thiz deal would make perfect sense for the Raptors only if the blazers give up thee 22nd pick otherwise we would be to guard heavy with Jack, Calderon,DeRozan, Bellinili, rarely used Banks and then Fernandez. We need a big who can score now with the departure of Bosh, not one that will develop

OF COURSE the Raptors would want yet another European “shooter” who plays no defense and really isn’t that great at shooting in the first place…..

COLANGELO IS PISSING ME OFF!!! 13th pick for rudy is such a bad deal for Toronto. Honestly, we don’t need another Belinelli. He’s a good player but NO MORE EUROS

  • T-Money

Raptors are winning the Euroleague next year, mark my words. FC Barça got nothing on them.

  • KoBynum716

    co-sign T-Money

  • MikeC.

Colangelo is obviously confused. Maybe he thinks the Raptors play in the Euroleague and there’s a limit on American players. Canada is still part of the British Commonwealth, on paper anyways. Maybe that’s where he’s getting confused. We’ll know for sure when he tries to sign and trade Bosh for Freddi

I’d say Colagelo has one more year to make this a consistent, defensive-minded, playoff-bound team. Anything short of that and he should be fired. I don’t care who he is or what he did in PHX; he’s done squat in Toronto.

Ed Davis just revealed that he’s actually a 5 foot Slovenian shooting guard.
