Sixers Trade Dalembert to Kings for Nocioni, Hawes

Chad Ford is reporting that the 76ers and Kings have agreed to trade Sam Dalembert (Philly’s longest-tenured vet) for Andres Nocioni and Spencer Hawes. The deal is nice for the Kings, as speculation has it that Nocioni has grown frustrated in Sacramento and is seriously considering a return overseas to play in Spain. Real Madrid and Caja Laboral are interested in him. The deal could open up the Kings to look at DeMarcus Cousins at No. 5 in next week’s Draft.

One down… 2 more contracts to move!

  • http://www.slamonline.com doyouwantmore

    Should have kept Hawes.

  • LD

    Here comes LeBron!

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

Hawes is a scrub, at least sammy plays d and swats

  • Hussman25

Hawes is gonna backup either Speights or Smith @ Center… Andres may go back to spain and a buyout here may be best here… That opens up some other options via trade or FA for another Big… Or bait to get another pick to draft a young swat machine… That TX A&M kid or Jerome Jordan… Need to package up Nocioni and someone else for a 2nd rd pick to get one of the two centers

Tarzan, did you watch Dalembert play for the last 8 or so years? No? I did, and let me tell you, for as many shots as he swatted, he gave right back to the opposing team in mind-numbingly dumb goaltending calls. I’m talking about shots that were clearly on the way down that any person with sense would realize. Missed rotations, and too many times on offense thinking he was better than he was, as evidenced by the 16-18 ft jumpers he would take. Peace out Sam!

  • http://fklf.com Jukai

er, sorry, but this is way better for the Kings. Hawes is underrated, and Andres can ball, remember the Bulls? I love Sammy, cause he knows his game and plays it consistently, but if th 76rs can get the full potential out of EITHER Hawes or Andres, it’s a good trade for the 76ers

  • Hussman25

    @Fat Lever… Agreed!

  • http://www.slamonline.com doyouwantmore

Jukai, this is not good for Sacramento unless it sets up another move, which it must. Any theories?

  • Fat Lever

Jukai – “cause he knows his game and plays it consistently”. Absolutely not. He doesn’t know his game. His game should be just like Tyson Chandler. Get o-boards, d-boards, roam the paint, alter/block shots. He should NEVER take a jumper outside of 5-7 ft, however he consistently did that. He would also disappear at times, from game to game, because he was upset that he didn’t have plays called for him.

Finally! my sixers seem like they are get a little smarter! Dalembert was on among many many bad contracts we have handed out over the years. Totally horrible instincts and player who makes the most bone headed plays you’ll ever see.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

the kings have been lusting over dalembert over the past season for some reason. i can see no reason other than his expiring contract for this coming season. but i guess they don’t see much in hawes. it just seems like he never got a fair shake. and when dalembert departs, who’s going to man the middle? they must be considering him for long term too, albeit at a cheaper rate for resign.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

I don’t understand the last sentence. Why would getting Dalembert open up the Kings to picking up Cousins? Don’t they play the same position?
On another note, I feel like this is a good move for the Kings. He’s not much of an offensive threat but he definitely makes it up on the defensive side. Although from the comments here it looks like everyone seems to not like Sammy…

    Insert Dummybert for Kwame Brown.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

like doyouwantmore said, unless this is the beginning of several moves…this isnt a very good trade for Sac…him coming off the books after next season could be part of the intrigue. Sammy may be able to help shore up the D in Sac but…it f’cking Sam Dalembert! Although his comunity service ethic will be welcome in Sacto…they like character guys.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

And what is it with the Kings and trading their dead weight to Philly…we JUST got rid of the last contract from the C-Webb trade…I have to say though, good riddance to Hawes. I just didnt like what he brought to the team beyond his offense skills…which wouldnt have really fit what we are going to be doing going forward now that Tyreke will be the focus…Hawes would have been perfect for the Sacto of 2002…2010…not so much.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

I liked Nocioni though…although he obviously was not diggin his stint in sac, he brought toughness, scrappy play and good 3 point shooting to the squad.

  • barnabusb

I hope this means they want an athletic wing and not Cousins. Keep slipping to number 7, DeMarcus…. come on……

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Who’s going to start? Speights or Hawes?

  • http://twitter.com/pdxgaybball dma

how is this smart by any means for the sixers? the last thing they needed to do was take on more long-term salary. and now they have nocioni, kapono, young and iggy at SF. *CLAP CLAP CLAP* here’s to hoping they convinced someone to take brand or iggy with young or speights.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

Man, Dalembert might have the lowest bball IQ in the game…he makes some rediculously stupid plays.

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

While sam has been sporadic, he gives sacto more than what hawes did. Hawes could sometimes hit the jumper, thats it. Sucks in the post, rebounding, and defense. Scrub, hasnt improved. And the wing in sacto was crowded. Now its cool, cisco, omri and donte. Nice future, and they dont plan on keeping sam long term

  • barnabusb

I’m a Pistons fan and would gladly take Brand and the number 2 pick for the number 7 and anything the Sixers want. Anything. Even our dancers. Some how, some way, we need to get DeMarcus Cousins.

  • Fat Lever

barnabusb, unless you can throw in an in-his-prime Isaiah, no way the Sixers make that deal, EVER.

  • http://fklf.com Jukai

Whoops– sorry guys, I meant this is good for 76ers. That should make my post make sense.

  • http://fklf.com Jukai

Tarzan: Hawes is actually a decent post defender. Please watch some games.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

Yes Jukai, that does make your post more intelligible. But the important part of your post was the IF. IF the sixers can get the full potential out of Hawes…I dont think that is going to happen.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Jukai, I was in nocal for dec, jan, and feb. I watched about 25 kings games, and even went to one, crazy blowout by suns. Hawes sucks at defense, watch some games

  • JohnnyCumL8lee

good trade, Hawes is a better fit with Brand. Dally’s nice especially with Landry and Thompson alongside. SHould be good.

  • Young C

I wonder how Billy King feels about Dalembert’s contract now????? Lol.

  • toranaga

There’s a lot of non basketball stuff going on here. The Kings dump anyone who gets a DUI especially if they have a big contract.
Spencer is an outspoken Reagan Republican and the Maloofs are huge Obummer supporter. He had to go!

  • scompson

    76ers roster 2010 – 2011:

Starting lineup: Holiday, Turner, Igoudala, Young, Speights

Bench: Brand, Williams, Nocioni, Hawes, Carney, Green, Kapono, Meeks, Smith

  • Tyler

Awesome trade for the Kings, Sammy brings defense and rebounding. Something the Kings have never really had that much, plus his contract expires after this year. The Kings got rid of Hawes who didn’t produce and Noccioni who is way overpaid. Sixers get ready for over 6 million per year of Noccioni launching crazy 3′s and yeah 3 million of soft Hawes.

  • Jay

It is going to be a big diss when Allen Iverson decides to return and the Sixers say no because they are so focused on the future with their youth now, ironic how he always said I wanted to end my career in Philly then wanted to leave in 06 and now cried when he came back, left again and now the Sixers won’t want him.

  • slamfan4life

    nice trade for both squads

  • NBA kid

very helpful for sacto because they’re set as far as offensive big men with landry and jt, both of whom suck on defense. bringing in sammy adds defense to the middle, something the kings havent had since….vlade divac?

  • T-Money

i like it for the kings. sammy and jason thompson could complement each other very well. they need a solid 3 in the draft.

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Tmoney is a crack head. Garcia, omri, and donte?

  • http://sevendeu2u.wordpress.com/ Seven Duece

i think Sacto just wanted to free up some offense for whoever they plan on drafting or siging. Hawes is soft as Charmin & Nocioni grates on everybody’s nerves. Dalembert’s *game* won’t disrupt the way the Kings play.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

T-Money is not a crack head, but I’m liking Omri Casspi, the guy has some pretty big upside. The Kings obviously should start Landry at the power-forward spot, and I think Thompson can play either center or forward. Not sure if Sammy D will start, I just hope if he does it isn’t for Landry.

  • JohnnyCumL8lee

Francisco Garcia didn’t even get to play last yr cuz of injuries. They are not too bad at the SF with him starting. Solid D and perimeter shooting with Casspi off the bench. But who’s their SG? Tyreke? Udrih at PG?

  • Yesse

Hold on now, you can’t trade (yet?)? Even Lakers could have traded anybody then or signed LeBron for finals. You should be able to trade after season.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

good trade for both, most notably for philly if hawes finally lives up.. draft TURNER! Time to trade iggy!

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Sixers win this trade because they get rid of Dalembert’s giant contract, get a nice young prospect in Hawes, and wont have to pay Nocioni if he goes overseas/get to keep him if he decides to stay.

  • jrokcrazy

SOOOO… Garcia is the only passer??? im going to miss hawes but having 3 centers will be the first time in sac. #5 better b good
