Sources: Bulls, Hinrich Probably Parting Ways

According to sources, it looks like Kirk Hinrich’s headed to a new city: The Chicago Bulls have a deal in place that would move Kirk Hinrich and the 17th pick to the Washington Wizards, freeing up enough cap space to pursue two maximum-salary players in this summer’s free-agent market, sources with knowledge of the Bulls’ plans said Thursday. It wasn’t immediately clear what Washington would send to Chicago in the trade. The deal can’t be officially consummated until July 8, when the Wizards will have room under the salary cap to absorb Hinrich’s $9 million contract without having to send back anything of similar value. Since it’s a good-faith deal for the time being, there remains a chance it could fall apart. But according to one source, the Sacramento Kings are prepared to make a similar deal with the Bulls in the Wizards’ stead if that were to happen.”

Responded about this in Bryan Crawford’s blog, but also should note that the Bulls only have 5 guys under contract now. Crazy overhaul.

Why would Washington Take another PG, I mean i’d HAVE to think they’re taking Wall. Him and Gil and Hinrich. Agent 6 has to be gettin moved somwhere afterwards if this went down.Unless gil is put at the 2 spot

    Shout out to Tate Armstrong.

Kirk, Arenas, Wall… I think Washington is trying to pull a Kahn.

Imagine Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Joakim Noah in the starting lineup….if LeBron leaves Cleveland, Chicago is the best place to go. I don’t care what Bosh says about not wanting to just be a piece of the puzzle, he would be stupid to not join that team. Kirk Hinrich and John Wall isn’t a bad backcourt in Washington. A little small, but they can both play defense and create a lot of offensive opportunities for themselves and their teammates.

Wow. If this is true…wow. I love Hinrich, but I’m all about trying to sign two free agents this offseason. That being said, is dumping Hinrich’s $9 million gonna give us enough cap space to sign a second max-level free agent? Don’t their salaries start at like $16 million? I’m confused. Damn if he goes though, I’m gonna miss Hinrich. Dude goes HARD on defense. Thibbs woulda made him a lock for NBA all-defensive-team.

Washington is doing it because they get the first round pick they coveted, plus a player who can be a contender for 6th man of the year, who also has one of the golden “expiring contracts”, for nothing. More than likely a second rounder. The Wiz were not going to pursue a top FA this year, so this is a brilliant move on their part.

@Enigmatic: Other sources are reporting that the Bulls would have to move one more piece to afford it (likely Johnson). Also, does this mean that the Wiz basically tell the Bulls who to draft since its not official yet?

Wow. I wonder how Bryan will receive Mr James since he’s always dogging him.

great work and an A+++++ to bulls gm.. now the the bulls have jus strengthened their chanches of landing both bron and bosh.. if this goes thru we may very well be looking at a team capable of achieving the level of greatness such as the bulls of old have achieved when they had mj, pip, n rodman.. absoletely amazing job on the bulls behalf

Looks like Chicago and Miami are really making things happen for this FA market. NY and NJ chances of getting any combo of LBJ/Bosh/Amare/Johnson are quickly diminishing. In could happen where two each go to Chicago and Miami making those teams stacked. Imagine two of those guys with Wade and the other two with Rose – much better than any situation NY could offer. If Cle/Phx want to keep thier guys, they are going to have to do something huge!

    Poor Russ.

  • cc413

cleveland might as well start trying to sign an allstar n look for some players to step up right now and play

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Looks like the best Cle can do will be a sign and trade. They can throw in a bad contract to get some cap space. I’m thinking Amare and Lebron go to Miami and Bosh and Johnson go to Chicago. If Bosh wants to feel like the featured player, then there he does not want to play with LBJ or Wade. In Chicago he could argue he’s the feature along with Wade, Noah, Joe and Deng.

what’s not to say the wizards won’t be moving hinrich in a separate deal?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Looks like Hinrich will be better equipped than all of us answer today’s poll.

  • cp3fan

    @ the nupe
Umm…did you forget about Derrick Rose???

  • C-Lo-The-Great

    i smell a starting 5 of
3 out of 5 starters might be easts best players at their position

  • Jose

It’s Official. NBA.com says the Deal’s done. Hinrich and #17 goin to Washington

  • http://www.need4sheed.com Tarzan Cooper

Wow, miami and chicago will win big with free agents. The possibilities are very intruiging

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

This really forces the Cavs to go after CP3. That’s the only chance they have of keeping LBJ. Although they won’t have as many ‘stars’ as Miami/Chicago, they would be a very deep cast with the peices they have now.

How pissed are the Knicks after this? The ONLY fa bargaining chip they had was being able to sign 2 fa’s. Now 2 better teams can too. Have fun giving boozer and gay max contracts New York

Great move by the bulls. White guy’s just don’t add much value to a team when you’re trying to win a championship.

Clearing space to bring home D-Wade! Rose & Wade – the chi’s own together to restore the crown.
