The L.A. Media Really Hates Paul Pierce

It began with an unfortunate joke about the stabbing back in 2000, and continues with nicknaming the Cali native “RuPaul Pierce”. Stay classy, L.A. media folk. Your move, Boston. From the OC Register: “He is nicknamed ‘The Truth,’ ironic for a player whose on-court reactions so often are lies. The Lakers will face plenty against Boston in these upcoming NBA Finals. The will of Kevin Garnett. The guile of Ray Allen . The speed of Rajon Rondo. And the fraudulence of Paul Pierce. Oh, Pierce is a wonderful player, every aspect of his game genuinely legitimate. But one. And the Oscar goes to…The player who, during an Eastern Conference finals game in Orlando, was identified on a fan’s sign as ‘RuPaul Pierce.’ The biggest diva in the NBA, that’s Pierce. He sells fouls like 7-Eleven sells Slurpees – constantly. He is as dramatic as an Elvis sighting. He is a soap opera in shorts. The prediction here is it will take Pierce less than one quarter of Game 1 Thursday to be so wronged by a Laker defender that he’ll appear to have been hit by an ice cream truck.”

    That’s the truth.

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

No argument there. RuPaul Pierce it is.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

They must have been trying to write an article about Derek Fisher but had Auto-Fill take over without the writer’s knowledge.

  • Sparker

oh good. i can cheer against the lakers after all.

  • roman

Artest is gonna put Pierce on lock.

  • http://www.twitter.com/GerardHimself Gerard Himself

yeah I read about the stabbing “joke”, that was embarrassing. What the hell was that writer thinking?

  • Tommy Patron

    Eboy’s right on.

  • Jerod

Yeah, glad I haven’t seen Pau Gasol, Artest, or DFish flop, act, or do any of the things Pierce is accused of….p.s. Kobe has never got Tim Duncan face on any foul called on him

  • MikeC.

Other than Ron-Ron, the Lakers are all floppers.

  • KH

DFish might “sell” fouls as well, but What Pierce does is ridiculous.

  • 2Dope

This is commical. Phil is already pleeding for the calls through the media. Kobe is a baby who cries everytime he goes to the rim. Gasol is a flopper and D-Fish is just a punk. Kobe, Gasol and the rest of that finesse offense better start crying now cuase they’re gonna get hit hard.

  • http://sportsbattle.blogspot.com/ k-lang83

I Co-Sign the LA Media-It’s THE TRUTH though, a big part of Paul Pierce’s game is to flop and try to draw fouls. That’s G@Y.

  • pache

im sure if the lakers had someone who can flop as good as pierce they be happy with the free free throw points.

  • truthteller

@ Eboy: No I think it was Paul that he was trying to write about and you know what he’s saying is true! Stop fronting and be honest: Paul is a great player but he’s also a little too dramatic.

  • truthteller

    @ 2Dope:I think you’re dellusional. Aren’t you a Lebron fan?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Why is this guy writing about Pierce when he has a man by the name of Derrick Fisher on the very team he covers? Fish is the best NBA actor to never have been in a movie. EVERY screen somebody sets he acts like he was tackled.

  • http://recognizethegame.com Rosef

Ohh hey whats up haters. Pierce is gonna light up LA once again. Guy has already taken out Wade, Lebron twice, Carter, Howard, and Kobe. He must be doing something right.

  • truthteller

teddy-the-bear: At leaset Fisher doesn’t get wheeled off in a wheel chair or lie down onn the floor like he’s passed out! Paul Pierce is way worse than Fisher!

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Ted Green actually edited the story after a few of us emailed him saying the stabbing joke crossed the line. Here was his response to my email:

Please convey to Mr. ***** that nothing I wrote was meant to be taken in earnest. All tongue in cheek fun, stoking the rivalry. It’s going to be big, big fun, watching these two most storied franchises have at it.

    Ted Green

  • truthteller

Rosef: Don’t bet on it! Not this time.

  • James

LMAO get himmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm *method man voice*

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

he got game but hes a fu(king diva/drama queen, he thinks hes better than he really is and hes a faker, hey, he should be a laker!

  • jimmythesaint

EVERYone who commented on the LA Times article called this writer out and trashed his sloppy name calling … Hollywood indeed. Game 6 all over again 131-92 it’s acomin …

  • jin35

You and me both LA Media.

  • 2Dope

Truthteller, If i was a Bron fan than I’d like Kobe as well cause they both are babies who cry everytime they miss a layup. I meerly wrote that 99% of the league could not gaurd Bron and I would write the same about Kobe (both are incredible players). Regardless, at least one game in this series will go the Fakers way due to horrible officiating compounded by Kobe and Phil crying to the Refs.

  • vtrobot

some recent “fashion” photos show who the real diva is. LA, have fun, ’cause i bet pierce is gonna play better on the road. you should p*ss off this C’s team because none of these guys use that as motivation and end up playing better. i know it’s a little bit of a stretch but don’t be too upset with PP when he says that he’s the best after he wins another finals MVP. look at the SFs he’s gone against in 08 and this year. that’s very good ammo for his side of that arguement. don’t forget that he didn’t name himself the truth, a LAKER did. yeah, he oversells fouls sometimes. who the F*CK doesn’t? dude’s garbage because of that? y’all are real true fans of the game. just make sure that after the lakers get bounced that you’re on these boards giving credit where it’s due like i was last year to the ORL players who deserved it. fake *ss fanboys.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

i even heard dr. jack ramsay say on the radio that part of pierce’s game is flopping around trying to get the foul. pierce has game, but i wish he wasn’t such a drama queen. but characters make it more fun!

crazy diva celtics vs pretty golden boy lakers! looking forward to it!

  • mike

Who the f*ck reads the OC Register? Beat LA.

  • MikeC.

As far the NBA’s rules go, floppers aren’t doing anything wrong. They’re creating contact to draw fouls, and the flop is to be sure the refs see the contact. Until the league starts punishing floppers, they’re playing by the rules. It doesn’t mean we have to like it. If Oak, Mase and Ewing played in today’s NBA, they’d not only be suspended for multiple flagrants, they’d probably be arrested for attempted murder on anyone foolish enough to drive the lane. I don’t like the flopping, but it’s part of today’s game. Until it’s eliminated, the best players are going to take advantage of it.

  • chingy

Haven’t read all above comments but damn LA media, have you guys seen dfish and pau?

  • riggs

hey writer, remember when pau gasol fell all the way towards the first row of seats from the paint because of amar’e stoudamires moving only 1 foot? just add this to the million other reasons to hate LA and LA fans.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Yeah Fisher acts. And his acting has been quite unsuccessful in his acting career because he’s way to strong to flop the way he does. Quite. The comment about Pierce being hit with the ice cream truck was funny.

  • barnabusb

What MikeC said. The floppers are just taking advantage of refs who are very, very quick to call a foul when there’s a bit of exaggerated flailing around. The worst is when the guy with the ball at the top of the 3-point line tries to dribble around a pick and roll. Often times the big man will show on the dribbler and bump him just a little bit, but today’s player flails their head back and thrashes their arms like they’ve been shot. I bet Pierce will do it at least once in the first 5 minutes.

  • BostonBaller

I think this is funny stuff, yes PDouble does the acting bit but your comments are more exaggerated than his moves. lol. Answer this for me. When he “flops” is it after a legit foul or is he pretending to get fouled? Don’t lie…Think about it before you incriminate yourself…Take the Orlando series, was he not fouled each time he hit the ground? Regardless of the “flopping/acting” was he not hit? That my friends is the main difference between flopping & selling (over selling) a legit call. Sticks n stones may break his bones but names will never hurt him (especially being NAMEd MVP of The Finals.

  • BostonBaller

kobe is from Philly and those “fans” boo’d him and that’s fine if your team is playing against him in a real game…but an ASG? come on. Paul is from LA and he gets no love from there….What if LBJ leaves The Cavs, do you think they will boo him? hahaha Who cares, certainly not the players…let’s get these games started

  • Harlem_World

With Fish and Gasol and Kobe on your team and you go with this? GTFOH with that bullship…I think it’s going to be too much to to expect, but if the basketball gods are watching – we need a throwback KG, dominant PP, Jesus to show up all series, Rondo to DOMINATE all LA PG’s, Rasheed to get his ass down on the block and Doc to FREE NATE ROBINSON. BEAT LA!!!!

  • topo

d fish causes a lot of offensive fouls and is good at selling them, but at least he doesn’t wince in fake pain and pretend to be injured

  • rich

how does he pretent to be injured? because he was precautious in not trying to walk and potentially end his postseason? do you know if your leg or knee is broken, or if it is a stinger? unless u have a BA in kinesiology or health sciences then gtfo. yes a big part of his game is game is selling fouls and creating contact. so does kobe, so does every player who shoots more than 7 foul shots a game (excluding bat ft shooters). Pau gasol and bynum could just be less aggressive on the show, or they could pull the chair and force a travel. calling him an actor is an excuse not to be creative on D

  • topo

i’ve never seen kobe be wheeled away in agony in a wheelchair and then walk back on to the court 2 min later

  • don

no fan of either team, but this gives me reason not to cheer for LAL.

  • vtrobot

can i just ask who in the league gets the most press for all of their injuries and amazing ailments that said golden prince valiantly plays through? hint: his nickname is the same as uma’s in kill bill ‘cept he’s not quite as deadly as her.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

You know what I just realized? Nobody ever says that Pierce won “the real MVP” when he was the MVP of the Finals and not Kobe.
Well, no one outside of Boston.

  • http://www.stuffwhitepeoplelike.com Tarzan Cooper

Fish acts like he got hit by a 12 gauge on every screen, and most of the time he gets the call. He must have somn on the refs, fish is def most floppingest in the l. And cosign anton. The amount of laker fans who work at slam is not a big deal, but how badly it affects the content of this sight is sickening, slamonline, where objectivity does not happen.

  • doyouwantmore

Kobe will deliberately try to break your nose while following through on a shot to take you out of the game. Pau Gasol is the softest big man all-star in the League. Artest is dumb as a bag of hammers. Andrew Bynum is mentally a teenager.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com/ Moose

Have they ever even watched a Lakers game (Derek Fisher)?

  • BostonBaller

I like Gasol though, he is very skilled but I obviously hope he gets dominated in this series. lol.

  • http://Www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Anyone else see the hypocrisy of a publication based in/near Hollywood calling out anyone as being fraudulent? (sidenote: at first i read that as; the flatulence of Paul Pierce. Silly me). Not to mention the Golden Globe nominees on the Lakers: Derek-never committed a foul in my life-Fiaher, Pau-HEYYYY-Gasol (i swear i hear that whiner shout for fouls in my nightmares) and of course the legendary Kobe-Yo ref i never miss… ever, thus that had to be a foul-Bean!

  • http://Www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Hey, isn’t it time for Phil to appeal to the press about some perceived advantage Celtics players get away with? I propose he whine about Ray running the baseline too much, or Rondo taking too many steps on drives. How about KG’s volume being too high as he motivates himself by screaming into Pau’s ear during freethrows? No?

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

To the L.A. media: Whats wrong with being a crafty player? I guess the Lakers never flop, scream for fouls (Gasol!) and cry to the refs every time they get a foul called on them (Kobe, Fisher)? Pierce is gonna keep Artest in foul trouble, and Garnett’s D is gonna get in Pau’s head, and Fisher is gonna have nightmares of Rondo burning him. Celtics in 6.

  • benny

its called “high basketball IQ” if the refs call it, its a smart play

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Phil Jackson wrote that article. Pierce isn’t going to get anymore calls.

  • BostonBaller

The Promise & T the Bear are on fire again….I need not write another word.

HEY i dont blame the media all celtics suck they are just attetion wanting punks

  • James

Does anyone think it’s possible for Pierce to have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? He definitely deserves an award if not…..he should be in a war film based on Vietnam. Also, it takes alot to make someone stab you in the face, neck, and back….
