Thunder Acquire Cole Aldrich

Making a big move to improve their thin frontcourt, the up-and-coming OKC Thunder traded the 21st and 26th picks (Craig Brackins and Quincy Pondexter, respectively) to the Hornets for Morris Peterson and No. 11 pick, Cole Aldrich.

Should make OKC even more formidable.

westbrook, harden, durant, greene, AND aldrich? damn

Great move by OKC. I still think they should’ve kept Bledsoe though…. but I guess the reason why they didn’t is cause of D. Cook.

  • justin

no reason to keep bledsoe when we just picked up cook who essentially does the same thing but better

Don’t forget Maynor, he played pretty respectably at the end of the year in a back up role.

I love how the OKC front office managed to get a fellow jayhawk big for Nick Collison to take under his wing. Subtle, team chemistry-centered moves like this are true indications of an excellent front office.

good move, still they have to look at a big man come july.

time to make green the sixth man. ibaka the starter and have a bench mob consisting of greene, harden, maynor, collison and krstic. That’s a very good 10 men rotation. This will only work if sefolosha works on his game this summer and makes 1000 threes a day so he can hit that open corner three that coaches love come to think of it scratch this. Aldridge and Ibaka arn’t surefire ofensive options so harden starts and sefo comes of the bench.

I think its a good move however I like Pondexter and I think he could have fitted in well at OKC but then again adding a skilled big-man will be key to the Thunders title hopes. The trade makes less sence for NO who could already have enough wing players?

Man, who’s running the Thunder? They are really building what seems like a fantastic team. And their centerpiece really seems to like the organization. They’ll be contending in a few years, and are going to be a pain in the butt to teams in the West. I’m going to have to start watching them a little more closely now.

  • Hussman25

OKC is gonna be something to be feared… Slam; PLEASE dont do a TEAM cover w/ the words… “Champs by 2015!” See what happened in NJ?!!??

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

@hussman25, no, but they’ll probably do one that says champs by 2011! LOL

  • cc413

i believe they should trade cook to kings for demarcus cousins and have an potential elite big.. aldrich has the d n hussle but cousins is the missing piece for okc

  • HerbeC

KU jayhawks reunion. Nick collison and Cole Aldrich.
lakers will be the team to beat next year.
but i don’t think aldrich can handle either gasol or a healthy bynum yet

    we’ll wait and see

oh by the way, i thought he is a 7 footer. but no..he’s only 6’10 or sth.

  • dma

Presti has made some very nice moves all via the draft and using his cap-room. They’ll be nice but when it’s time to start extending all these young guys..

  • http://slamonline.com JL

aldrich… not to be racist here, but when was the last time a white big man made it big in the NBA? Even including Euros, it’s Dirk, Bogut (doing well), Gasol, … am I missing someone? nestorivic… is he still in the league? jeff foster? Collison? And he’s not even 7′ tall. plus he looked slow in college ball. come on thunder! i was counting on you drafting a better PF/C!

  • cc413

aldrich is a good player but would serve better as a defensive boost of the bench such as anderson varejou (or however u spell it) but it would be wise for okc to trade cook (since they are now overstocked with shooting guards) for demarcus cousins.. i can see him having a franchise career if he was thrown in with durant, westbrook, green, n harden.. he is the missing link for okc

Seattle fans eat a tub of ice cream and cry themselves to sleep every night.

@cc413…”it would be wise to trade cook for demarcus cousins.”

Gotta love fans and the ridiculous trades they think would pass in the real world. You seriously suggesting we could trade Daequan freaking Cook for the best big man in the draft? Wow. Do yourself a favour: Breathe deeply. Drop everything, pick up the phone and check yourself in to a psychiactric ward as soon as possible.

Anyway, whilst Aldrich is undersized – only 6’9 in street clothes – he is a serviceable big men who will be the league for many years to come. And what’s more, serviceable big men rarely come at such a bargain basement price. Defensive big men come at a premium in the NBA and while Presti hasn’t swung for the rafters, he has himself a rebounding and shot blocking machine to provide a tough inside presence to an awesome core yet to even fulfil its true potential.

  • NBA kid

@JL there was this one kid out of UCLA drafted 2 years ago who is doing pretty damn good up in Minnesota…

  • http://www.clownpenis.com Tarzan Cooper

Jebus, cole is shrinking! Only 6 9 now?. Dude is 6 11. Okc did great last night. Funny how he got drafted by no, where julian wright is. And xavier went to mem, where shady arthur is. cole will play d, board and swat, and he could guard pau, not bynum, cole is still too light for that

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

how bout these 2 retards sayin SacTown is stupid enough to even think about cook for Cousins?! wtf?!!

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

my bad, is just one…cc413 ftw…

screw all yal haters.. i would trade cook and several others for demarcus cousins in a second.. he is the missin piece for okc
