Tyson Chandler’s Opt-Out Unlikely

Rick Bonnell, longtime Hornets beat writer for the Charlotte Observer, disputes a Chad Ford report that indicated that Bobcats center Tyson Chandler is seriously considering exercising the early termination option in his contract: “There’s a report on espn.com, quoting an unnamed source, saying Chandler is considering exercising an early-termination option. While that would make Chandler an unrestricted free agent, it would also forfeit $12.6 million in salary. Chandler said twice during the season that he didn’t intend to opt out. Higgins said he’s heard nothing from Chandler or his agent, Jeff Schwartz, indicating Chandler is considering an opt-out. ‘I have not spoken to Jeff in a while, but it’s so funny – I was texting back-and-forth with Tyson just last night – that didn’t come up,’ Higgins said Friday.”
