Amar’e Stoudemire Finds Out He’s Jewish; Arrives In Israel

Believe us, we couldn’t make this story up. Amar’e tweeted an hour ago that he’s already arrived in Jerusalem. From Haaretz: “U.S. Basketball star Amar’e Stoudemire is apparently on his way to Israel for a voyage of discovery after learning he has Jewish roots. ‘On the flight to Israel. This is going to be a great trip,’ announced the power forward, who plays in the NBA for the New York Knicks, via the micro-blogging site Twitter. According to an Army Radio report, Stoudemire plans to spend time in Israel learning Hebrew, having recently learned he has a Jewish mother. ‘The holy land. Learn about it,’ he wrote, adding ‘ze ha’halom sheli’ – Hebrew for ‘this is my dream’. News of Stoudemire’s trip quickly had Israeli basketball fans buzzing with speculation that they might one day see him playing alongside another Jewish NBA star, Israel’s Omri Caspi, on the national team.”

he just got himself some endorsement deals by proclaiming he has jewish ancestry. And he can go to israel?(war zone) but he can’t play in the world championships? Am I missing something here?

  • Yann Blavec

I think he can’t play for Israel because he has already played for the US.

it is truly astounding, how ignorant and/or hateful some people can be. israel is not a “war zone”, and definitely not “The site of quite possibly the most violence, murder, and war in human history”. I mean, do you have any idea at all what your’e talking about? have you ever read an actual history book, dear mr.implosion? or any book, for that matter? if you ever get your head out of your ass long enough to look it up, you’ll find that there are many other places in the world with a far bloodier history. but why actually check facts? its so easy to just spew any old shit that pops into your head. and in case you still have any doubt, i’m a Jew and an Israeli. and proud of it. im also a knicks fan of the last 18-19 years. go knicks and go Amare! and to all you people talking shit about israel and jews – kansu li latachat! you could ask your hebrew-speaking friends what that means, if you had any.

and by the way – i have no problem with jokes about jews, when theyre funny and not just anti-semitism in disguise. the one about arizona-new york-florida cracked me up!

As far as I’m aware, Amare’s disqualified from playing for Israel because he already played for the US Men’s Team.

This is same the reason Tim Duncan couldn’t suit up for the Virgin Islands when they fielded a team to the Tournament of the Americas. TD even asked Larry Brown to hold him out of the US-VI game.

Good for Amare for digging to find ouit more about his roots and makeup. I applaud anyone who wants true “Knowledge of Self”…

FU*K the Palestines bunch of wining pansies. When you cowardly attack innocent people ala terrorists, you deserve to get that sh^t bombed out of you. Israel has every right to that land and whoever disagrees is Hitler’s BFF.

@Nahum Kairite Jews believe in the paternal line instead of the maternal one that you mentioned. So to them if your father is jewish but mom is not your still a full jew.

Amar’e: “To clear everything up: I’m studying history & want to learn about all religions. I think I might have some Hebrew Roots and I’m researching it.”

  • Ab

@ JTaylor21 you’re an imbecile, that’s all there is to it.

Amare should visit the Apartheid wall while he’s there.
