Breaking: Phil Jackson to Return For ’10-11 Season

This from the Lakers: “Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson has decided to return to coach the team for the 2010-11 season, it was announced today. “Count me in,” said Jackson. “After a couple weeks of deliberation, it is time to get back to the challenge of putting together a team that can defend its title in the 2010-11 season. It’ll be the last stand for me, and I hope a grand one.” Jackson, who most recently guided the Lakers to the 2010 NBA Championship, their second in a row, has won five titles as head coach of the Lakers. Overall, Jackson has guided his teams to eleven NBA Championships, the most of any coach in NBA history.”

“Last stand for me?” Yeah I heard that one before. In my opinion, now that Phil’s coming back, I think the Lakers win it all again next year. I don’t care what free agent signs where, the Lakers will be champs in ’11.

    Good NEws

Thank goodness. He probably believes all of this free agent stuff might give him one final chance. But this will really have to be his final year just depending on his health though.

Should have left, its going to be weird if he leaves without a title. He had the perfect ending and Lakers may have a hard time winning again next year.

Relief washes over me in an awesome wave.

I don’t know why he had to tease the “I’m going back to the ranch” stuff all year.

I knew he would be back. Can they win it all without farmar?

  • http://double-technical.blogspot.com Zee!

3 Peat!!! All we need is a reliable starting PG, and Fisher to come off the bench, and were set. Eff the haters.

@Tarzan – You got jokes man. That’s funny!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

What if the Lakers sign AIÉ Phil can control AI and AI could actually played 33 mpg on this team, as a starter or off the bench for Fisher.

  • Yesse

I already got scared for a second. This is good news.

  • slamfan4life

I knew he would come back, if Lakers remain healthy, they will make me look like a prophet…i don’t care even if all the run and jump guys sign together (lebron,d.rose, wade, etc), none of you is wondering who is going to shoot the ball….Rondo?????(ha,ha,ha, although i generally enjoy seeing his game)I’ll say it again: Wade, Lebron and Rose at the same team is DOOMED( who is shooting the f… ball???!!!) !!! Sorry my little friends, fantasyball is one thing, NBA finals is another…

Damn, I hate this poopooleakin guy

  • ccantrell

iverson would be a good idea.. splittin time with fisher but u know if he dont start then hes not gna stay.. idc what he says we have already seen this but he would fit in greatly and he also gets his teammates the ball much better than fisher tho he doesn’t have fishers stroke from 3 land.. iverson would be an upgrade but he also could potentially cause chemistry problems and ruin what the lakers have got going for them

  • http://bleacherreport.com/users/42594-hoops4life Overtime

I really…really dont think Iverson would fit on the Lakers. The answer in the triangle? His skills COULD work in that system, but i dont think it would, too much of a need to dribble etc. Plus, not sure if his threepoint shot would be up to scratch

“Should have left, its going to be weird if he leaves without a title. He had the perfect ending and Lakers may have a hard time winning again next year. ”

no disrespect dude but that sounds cowardly. i doubt phil jackson is worried about tarnishing his legacy by not quitting while ahead.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Phil just gave the lakers a reason to play their best and get Phil a ring to retire with.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

Honestly people, Iverson? Really? Pardeep, your obsession scares me. Let it go.

  • Purple & Gold

Great news and I knew he would not turn down a shot at his 4th 3peat. That’s insane just even saying that. The Lakers are pretty much a LOCK now to 3 peat. The core of this team (Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Bynum) is back and isn’t going anywhere. Seriously don’t believe the crazy rumors you’ve been reading on the internet about Bynum & LO for Bosh & Jarret Jack or Odom possibly getting traded to save money. The deal for Bosh makes no sense at all and would be a HUGE mistake if the deal was made. Sure Bosh is a better player offensively but he is not a Center and has stated he does not want to play that position. Also if the Bosh trade happened the Lakers would get a lot softer up front and defensively. Bosh is one of the softest players in the league and is at best a decent shot blocker compared to Bynum who is a legit shot blocker and defensive presence in the paint. As for Iverson ever coming to play for the Lakers uhh… yeah HELL NO !!! Dude is and will always be a selfish CANCER on whatever team he plays for.

Good news. I really can’t imagine the Lakers, as presently constructed, without Phil. It just wouldn’t feel right. Wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two second-tier free agents sign here for minimum. I can’t wait for the ’10/’11 season to start. Man, it’s gonna be a loooong summer!

  • http://shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Cheryl

And, the following year, Zen Master can play the Tex Winter role for Brian Shaw.

  • Robb

Thanks Zen Master! without you and without Ron Ron’s psychiatrist the Lakers would be in a risky situation.

  • nastierthanu4

Here we go the blueprint is being created for what could be a legendary year for many in the game. Kobe has his coach back and a formidable line up with championship experience. This is the best opportunity for 24 to solidify his position next to and not behind 23.

  • The Philosopher

^^ Kobe will never be next to ’23′.^^

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

^^ Lebron will never be next to ‘Kobe’.^^

  • The Philosopher

    ^^LeBron’s better than Kobe.^^

  • al

now we just need to resign fish, rodman, and shaq

  • http://Www.slamonline.com Negetivekreep

Philosopher: Thanks for clearing that up, I’m sure everyone is relieved to finally get your take on: LeBron vs. Kobe / MJ/ Kobe.

    Philosopher: wazzup!!! lechoke’s ball sucker

  • Breeze

Please don’t mention lebron in the same sentence as kobe …I would appreciated dearly thank you!

  • Morgan

So glad he is back so that I can see him work his magic live in London..paying 100 bucks for those tickets wouldn’t have seemed the same without P-Jax sitting on the sidelines.

  • Karl

    @ Simon S.Y Lawy
Another valued contribution to discussion. Much obliged.

  • giogolo

@philosopher i thought Lebron was your king but you just killed your premise by placing your 2 comments starting on 8:59 with th Seeds. haha.e

He can smell a Three-Peat and is gunna grab the opertunity to further show himself as one of the best coaches of all-time.

  • ShadiestBen

Philosopher doesn’t believe half of what he says himself. He just does it for a reaction. I think him and Papaloukas are the same person or Brothers.

  • JoeMaMa

Because of persistent health issues, Phil Jackson will now be coaching all of the next season’s games lying down, eyes closed, in a courtside hyperbaric chamber. Very Zen.

  • The Philosopher

Shout out @gigolo!! How are you doing, good brethren?
