Bucks To Sign Drew Gooden

If Drew Gooden is getting this kind of scrilla, the next few weeks may be even crazier than we first thought. Yahoo! broke the news: “Drew Gooden has reached agreement on a five-year, $32 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Gooden has played for eight teams in eight seasons, and hopes to find some stability with the fast-rising Bucks. Bucks general manager John Hammond and agent Dan Fegan struck quickly on Thursday and cut a deal to help solidify Milwaukee’s frontline.”

    I’m pretty sure I saw that it’s 5m for each of the first two years, 6m for the third year and 8m for each of the last two years. The last two years are team options, so assuming they decline, the deal is three-years, $16 million.

    I like this. He is a solid rebounder who has a nice mid range jump shot. He will hustle on both sides of the floor. There is a reason so many teams wanted the Clippers to release him after the trade deadline last season. This Bucks team is starting to look better and better. They need to keep Salmons. 2nd round playoff berth in the making. Now if only Redd could stay healthy…

    Wow, that’s pricey, shouldn’t they think about resigning Salmons first before signing Gooden to a contract worth about 6 to 7 a year

    If anonymous is correct, its not really a bad deal at all. if you want to go in another direction after 3 years then you cut him loose.

    Maybe the length of the contract is surprising, but Drew Gooden is a $6-mil-a-year player. That’s MLE type of money.

    A three year deal for drew gooden is still two years too long. What’s the point in even making the last 2 non guaranteed? His ageent hoping the organization forgets to file paperwork?

    Agreed. If it’s $16-mil for the first three years with team options after that, then it works directly in the favor of Milwaukee. Bucks are gonna be a problem for the next few years.

    This guy is not going to give them production anywhere near 6 million + a year worth. Maybe they are hoping that his contract will be coming off the books just as LBJ or Wade’s new ones will be up.

    i like this pick up the bucks.. they now have what they have been missing.. a true power foward.. gooden has great hustle and a decent jumper also.. very hard worker on both sides of the floor.. gives bucks starting line-up of jennings, redd, maggette, gooden, and bogut.. also with ridnour, chris-douglas roberts, jerry stackhouse, carlos delfino, kurt thomas, & tiny gallon splitting time off the bench the bucks will be a team on the rise next season

    I heard that the 4th and 5th year at club option and the deal could end up being 3 yrs for 16 mil which is better than gadzuric

    I like this, hopefully with the contract done Drew can put his head down and start becoming the 15 and 10 guy that he should consistently be.. Nice pick up Milwaukee..

    I can’t believe teams are still signing Drew Gooden to long term deals. Seriously. They wouldn’t give Villaneuva money, but they sign Gooden? Gooden is Charlie V without the 40 point potential.

    Word, Allenp. Bizarre deal. Also, even if Redd comes back, he won’t anywhere near the player he once was (the injury + age). He’s also well down the pecking order there anyway.

    Glad to see that some people don’t seriously think that Redd will come back and be a big contributor. It’s been a while since he did that. I think the reason some people still even talk about him is because he’s the only Bucks player they know about.

    Redd ain’t coming back. You’ve proven you can win without him. So you don’t need him now. Starting lineup C-Bogut, PF-Gooden, SF-Salmons, SG-Magette, PG-Jennings. Bench-Ridnour, Delfino, Ersan, Tiny, Sanders. Pretty tidy lineup. He’s (Redd) only good for a sign and trade.
