Bulls May Have Gotten It Right

Finally, Chicago plays a shrewd offseason.

by Quinn Peterson

I’m not writing this article as some die-hard Bulls fan who’s had his heart broken time after time since the end of the Jordan era. But rather, I’m writing this as merely a fan of the game. Having been in and around the City of Wind for the past couple decades, getting a chance to observe the Bulls pretty closely, it’s safe to say that when it comes to the roster, they have finally gotten it right.

It’s been a long time coming, too. Since His Airness departed, the Bulls may not have always had the worst record, but their rebuilding process has left much to be desired year after year — until this season.

See, since 1999, the Bulls have been that one team. The one that just always manages to botch something up — in a handful of ways: In some instances, they’ve been the team that simply makes senseless decisions; in others, they, for whatever reason, fall in love with guys who are mediocre at best; and yet, in different times, they’re that one squad that is rumored to be in the running for every big name player on the market, but always come up empty.

The first case began immediately following Jordan’s second retirement, as the Bulls hired Tim Floyd as head coach. A year later, with the No. 4 pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, the BulTyson Chandler, Jay Williams, Eddy Curry, Trenton Hassell & David Gravesls selected …. Marcus Fizer? Yeah. 2001 may have actually been the worst year, however, trading Elton Brand — co-ROY and an automatic 20 and 10 — for Brian Skinner and the draft rights to Tyson Chandler, drafting Eddy Curry, and signing the great Eddie Robinson. And this is only the beginning.

The following year, Ron Artest, Ron Mercer, Brad Miller — their top three scorers — were sent to the Pacers in exchange for Jalen Rose, Travis Best and Norm Richardson. In ’04, it was leading scorer Jamal Crawford on the move along with Jerome Williams. In return, the Knicks sent over Dikembe Mutumbo (who would never play a game for the Bulls, by the way), Othella Harrington, Frank Williams and some guy named Cezary Trybanski.

In 2006, first, LaMSLAM 103arcus Aldridge was traded for Tyrus Thomas. Then, despite being a team with very few offensive options, the Bulls went ahead and brought in an on-his-way-to-being-washed-up Ben Wallace. A week later, after snagging PJ Brown and JR Smith from New Orleans for Tyson Chandler, they shipped Smith to the Nuggets for Howard Eisley and two second-round draft picks — before Smith played a single game.

More recently, the Bulls are guilty of letting Ben Gordon walk for nothing. Not a bad move necessarily, as it left cap room for this offseason. But thinking John Salmons could step in as a number-one option on offense definitely is. Among other bad ideas have been signing Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng to massive, immovable contracts.

Granted, injuries to Jay Williams and Jamal Crawford were unfortunate — the two would have formed a pretty dope backcourt — but it’s fair to say that the Bulls haven’t always possessed the best decision-making.

In the second scenario, the Bulls, time and again, seem to become enamored with guys who just will not get the job done at the professional level. This is especially true of the time Scott Skiles was the head coach. In his five years, the Bulls made the Playoffs three times. Despite being sound defensive teams, the offensive deficiencies were glaring.

Each time, the post-season trips came after terrible starts to the regular season, giving nothing but false senses of hope, as the Bulls — and many of their fans — would enter the new season optimistic because of their late push the previous year. Each time, however, they failed to make any improvements during the offseason. It was during this time that guys like Andres Nocioni, Darius Songaila, Mike Sweetney and Othella Harrington emerged as “formidable” players. Role players maybe, but Andres Nocioni and Darius Songaila should never be two of your top five scorers. Never.

Lastly, in the third scenario, the Bulls have been the team rumored to be in the running for nearly every big name player, but never follow through on the deal. Back in ’03, the Bulls missed out on Tim Duncan, Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady when all three were free agents. Over the past few years, the Bulls have (according to rumors) missed out on McGrady (twice more), Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. Quite the list, and all would have certainly addressed major needs for the Bulls.

In the case of the latter three, the Bulls’ inability to part ways with Luol Deng, Ben Gordon or Tyrus Thomas have all been what has held the trades back.

The Bulls and their front office had come up short time and time again, which left the potential for this offseason to end the same way. But for a change, they didn’t, and it’s been nice to see because they’ve had one hell of an offseason and put together a damn good team.

Starting with moving Kirk Hinrich for cap room and bringing in well-respected defensive guru Tom Thibodeau, the Bulls have themselves in the best shape since Phil, Michael and Scottie ran the Madhouse on Madison.

While they weren’t fortunate enough to land LeBron, they still managed to put together, arguably, the best offseason in the League. Grabbing Carlos Boozer addressed their immediate need for a low-post scorer to compliment Joakim Noah, and Boozer — like Brand 10 years ago — is a surefiCarlos Boozer, Kyle Korver & Ronnie Brewerre 20 and 10. Next, they inked Kyle Korver, filling the void for a deadeye three-point threat who could spot up when defenses collapse on Derrick Rose’s penetration.

For a second, it looked like they might revert to their old ways of senseless action, as, just after signing Korver, they offered JJ Redick. While Redick may have improved each season of his career, let’s be honest, him and Korver are virtually the same player. Luckily for the Bulls, the Magic matched their offer and kept Redick in the Sunshine State and out of a Bulls uniform.

Doing so allowed the Bulls to ink Ronnie Brewer, my personal favorite Bulls move of the offseason. Brewer fills their dire need for a 2-man who can guard, and at 6-7 — with a 6-11 wingspan — Brewer is can definitely do that. All coming from Utah, each player has been hardened Jerry Sloan, bringing a mandatory toughness that’s required to be a contender in the League.

Add those players to Rose, Noah, Taj Gibson and James Johnson, and you’ve got a team that has a chance to battle for the East consistently for the next five to 10 years. In addition, since they didn’t get King James, they still have money to blow, as well as Luol Deng on the roster, who’s now as expendable as ever (though getting a team to take his contract is another story).

So after years of failed attempts and disappointing endings, the Bulls may finally gotten it right. And if they did, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years.

I’m knocking on wood, but I think this is a 50-plus-win team. And don’t forget they just snapped up the best FA point guard left on the open market, CJ Watson.

  • Drew Posted: Jul.21 at 2:49 pm
I love what the Bulls have accomplished this off season. The Chicago Jazz are going to be very good this year. No doubts on the 50 W’s.

  • lexluther703 Posted: Jul.21 at 2:53 pm
I pray, PRAY that we finally got it right. Lets not forget many teams in the past have looked solid ON PAPER, but that doesn’t always transfer onto the court. Not to mention, whenever you are dealing with a rookie head coach, there’s a certain level of uncertainty that comes along with that. I pray it all works out, and I commend the front office for their dedication to improving the roster this offseason. Rose’s talents plus Noah and Boozer’s vocal leadership and passion plus Thibideau’s defensive genius equals title contenders

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Jul.21 at 2:54 pm
    Good work, QP.

  • cp3fan Posted: Jul.21 at 2:56 pm
Great job by the Bulls this offseason. I don’t blame them for not keeping Ben Gordon long-term. Great moves this offseason. With Rose continuing to improve along with Noah and these new pieces especially Boozer, they can win 50 games. Hopefully everyone stays healthy.

  • Airswade Posted: Jul.21 at 3:01 pm
I am very exited to see this Bulls team! Finally we seem to have got it right. Can’t wait!

  • slamfan4life Posted: Jul.21 at 3:07 pm
    50win, guarenteed

  • niQ Posted: Jul.21 at 3:09 pm
Don’t sleep on the Chicago Jazz!

  • riggs Posted: Jul.21 at 3:10 pm
you cannot say the bulls didn’t upgrade this off-season even if they didn’t manage to snag one of the “big three”. Brewer was my favorite move by them as well, dude is tough as nails.

  • pablasso Posted: Jul.21 at 3:21 pm
I love the bulls, but you can’t say they had “the best offseason in the League” when another team got Lebron and Bosh, you just can’t.

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.21 at 3:21 pm
As a Bulls fan I may be drinking the kool-aid, but I have talked myself into being happier with the way the off-season has gone than the way we may have wanted it to go. Instead of Lebron (who I did not want to root for) or Wade (the ultimate “snake-in-the-grass” if you ask me…I never trusted that dude when he was talking about how important it was to be close to his kids and play at home), we get to root for a hard-nosed team. And we get to see if Rose is going to develop into a top-notch, alpha-dog superstar. I like the pieces, and I’ve mentioned that it seems, on paper, that they’ve put together an actual team, with defined roles. Obviously it’s all a mystery right now, but I could see the Bulls doing some work and maybe sniffing a top-4 seed. I’d love to hope for more, but I want to keep my hopes down. Winning a playoff series is enough for me this year. Bottom line, though, is I really think/hope that they will be a fun team to root for.

  • chingy Posted: Jul.21 at 3:22 pm
Drose and Boozer on the pick and roll will be deadly!
Top of the East will be fun to watch all year. Magic, Celts, Heat, Bulls should be the final four with Hawks and Bucks knocking on the door to join the party.

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.21 at 3:22 pm
co-sign pablasso. that was a bit hyperbolic.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Jul.21 at 3:23 pm
@Pablasso, there is a distinct difference between acquiring players and actually constructing a “team.” The Heat did the former, the Bulls did the latter.

  • chingy Posted: Jul.21 at 3:23 pm
    ^ in no particular order…

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.21 at 3:37 pm
Bryan: but isn’t the fact that Miami actually found role players to go with the “three who shall not be named” (my vote for their nickname) pretty impressive? Haslem and Miller specifically. I agree that the Bulls fit niches better, at least in the traditional sense, but I’m not sure that the overall transformation of the Heat can take a backseat to the Bulls adding some impressive pieces.

  • mattydchi Posted: Jul.21 at 3:42 pm
Here’s a quote D Rose gave today: “I came to a team where they didn’t make the playoffs, not for a couple of years. No one was really interested in the Bulls like that in Chicago, not like [it was]. And I’m making it back exciting. I’m from Chicago, it would mean a lot if I would just bring back one championship there. Or even get past the first round, the city would go crazy. So for me to even bring that team back to like the old days, it would mean so much to this city.”
He is on point and is starting to provide leadership and be the voice of the team. If he continues to progress as a player, he can make the Bulls a championship contender.

  • mattydchi Posted: Jul.21 at 3:43 pm
Another quote: “Yeah, I want to be that guy. I want to be the reason why the Bulls are back to what they were 10, 12 years ago or something like that. “

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.21 at 3:45 pm
    Jealousy get’s you nowhere.

  • SWIFTboy Posted: Jul.21 at 3:47 pm
What do all the aformentioned bad moves have in common? Bulls fans were excited about them, until the season got underway. Overvaluing talent after a good postseason? Could that be happening with Noah right now? Don’t get me wrong, I like the moves the bulls made, but let’s wait and make sure this isn’t a rerun.

  • rainman10 Posted: Jul.21 at 3:52 pm
apparently Hinrich was not a massive immovable contract.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Jul.21 at 4:05 pm
Ahhh, the jealousy card…played by none other than Eboy. He’s played it twice today already. That’s hilarious.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Jul.21 at 4:08 pm
I also don’t want to get my hopes up too high but man, this is gonna be a great team. Every move they made this offseason has been spot-on. We’ve needed an interior scorer for a WHILE now, same goes for a defensive SG taller than 6’4. We finally have some legitimate depth. I won’t be sweating now when the starters go to the bench because Gibson, Watson and Korver can definitely put in work. The jury’s still out on James Johnson and Omer Asik, but I suspect the Bulls will still snatch up another swingman and another big man. I been hearing T-Mac and Josh Howard, neither of whom, to be honest, I want on the Bulls. T-Mac will disrupt chemistry, I think. And Howard is just a freakin’ knucklehead. I also been hearing Kurt Thomas. He would be a solid backup. I think a 50-win season and a trip to the second round is do-able this year, but if Rose can elevate his game to elite-level status, we can be a championship contender here in the next few seasons.

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.21 at 4:20 pm
Enigmatic…I would love Crazy Eyes Thomas in the Windy City. He would make a really nice, solid low-post defender off the bench.

  • LilKDub503 Posted: Jul.21 at 4:24 pm
Haha, what is this, the Chicago Jazz or something? I haven’t been paying ANY attention after ‘The Decision,’ (which I must say was horribly done as for TV) so I didn’t know that the Bulls have 3 players who have recently played for the Jazz.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Jul.21 at 4:33 pm
@D Train – I’d love to have dude too, man. Boozer and Noah starting, and then Gibson and Thomas off the bench? I’m not saying they’d be on par with the Lakers’ big guys or anything, but that would still be one sick frontcourt.

  • T-Money Posted: Jul.21 at 4:43 pm
Is it even up for debate that Miami had the best off-season? / Considering that Chicago whiffed on their publicly acknowledged 3 top targets, got an offer for another target matched, gave away Kirk for nothing because they weren’t able to sign two max players in the end… they did okay. They’ll be better, that’s for sure. I have a hard time seeing them finish above Miami, Orland or Boston, though. And even Atlanta. 4th, 5th seed aint bad, I guess.

  • c_cantrell Posted: Jul.21 at 4:45 pm
    ^eboy..
no one is jealous so shut up with your trash talkin

  • KB Posted: Jul.21 at 5:41 pm
i like what they did but i think the bucks have a deeper team and can win the division if bogut is healthy and jennings is the player i think he is (cp3/iverson hybrid). the boozer signing is a little like elton brand to the sixers though cause he gets hurt alot

  • Scottie Pimpin' Posted: Jul.21 at 6:03 pm
i was suprised they let hinrich go. though it was something that had to be done unfortunatly. i never wanted bosh or reddick. and i wanted boozer from the get go. so im very excited about this season coming up. after brewer im even more optomistic. and if rose continues to improve at the pace hes been doing. its overrrrrrrr. rose is the rare breed of player with that ball on a string ability. i cant wait….

  • Reflex Posted: Jul.21 at 6:34 pm
The Bulls have been a playoff team for the past 2 seasons, a dark horse at that. They might not havegot Bron but imo they are stronger for it,Boozer, Korver, Watson & Brewer are all FANTASTIC pieces, it pushes the Bulls on a par with Bos, Orl & Mia as far as the dominant forces in the east. On a sidenote, people need to stop digging on Deng, the guy came back from a long injury and is average 17-7. He can knock down the open jumper with the best of them and is pretty useful on D. There are infinitely (Hedo) worse (J.Johnson)contracts (Gay) than (Amir Johnson) his (Gordon).

  • Shem Posted: Jul.21 at 6:58 pm
I’ve been stressing long enough to my Raps that championship teams are built on a fundamental big and a defensive big. The bulls have accomplished that with Boozer and Noah. They have arguably a top 5 point guard on their team as well as a SHOOTER in kyle korver. The bulls have been missing a legitimate shooter for a while now. I was really hoping they got J.J as well. I love how they’re upgrading the back up PG with CJ and Brewer is nothing but energy off the bench. Bulls are better then the Hawks in my opinion and are taking the 4th seed as a pre-season prediction if they stay healthy.

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.21 at 7:05 pm
Eboy WTF are you talking about. Are you the Miami heats defender of honour or something? I get it, your team went from average to probably top two or three in the league (you never know) and your stoked but doesn’t it annoy you that they had to bring in LBJ to do it? i mean he is such a douche. Call me a hater if you want but i honestly would never want that man on my team, even if it meant a chip.

  • T-Money Posted: Jul.21 at 7:11 pm
Rusty: that’s why you’re not a GM and you’re commenting here like the rest of us.

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.21 at 7:19 pm
T money, i know im not a GM hence im a am not thinking like a GM. I am thinking like a passionate fan of basketball. Obviously if i were a GM i would take LBJ in a heartbeat, i doubt i would have a job if i refused him but as we have both recognised im just a fan. I don’t get the point your trying to make???

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.21 at 7:20 pm
*sory, the above should read: im not thinking like a GM.

  • Gmoney Posted: Jul.21 at 7:57 pm
I am not going into denial saying I am glad we did not get Lebron, Wade, or Bosh. Any of those three guys on the bulls would have been great! I do feel like the bulls went into consolation mode and Boozer was a nice pick up but if it was boozer and lebron…Championship! Without Lebron, 50 plus games! I live D rose but this was our chance to be a championship team again. Ronnie Brewer is no wade but I will agree the Bulls have improved the roster just by having a low post scorer and some better shooters…have not really seen korver or brewer play that much. I watched utah once and a while mainly to watch Deron Williams play. I hope we can win but Miami is no doubt stacked now. James, wade, bosh, miller, Haslem….I would put vegas odds on that team winning right now!

  • SpaceJam Posted: Jul.21 at 7:59 pm
First of all, we’ll be the best team in the division so we automatically get atleast the 4th seed. We should’ve won 50 games last season but our top 3 players were all out @ the same time for 10 games. and noah was out for 18 games. we should win atleast 55 games minimum.

  • Q Posted: Jul.21 at 8:12 pm
@Ryne: Yeah, I love the CJ Watson move, as well.
@Bryan: Thanks man, much appreciated. D. Rose is gonna be something special to watch over the course of this next decade.

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.21 at 8:28 pm
    Hate is funny sometimes.

  • C-Lo_The_Great Posted: Jul.21 at 9:20 pm
^^ hate and annoyed are two different things

  • Dacre Posted: Jul.21 at 10:02 pm
@EBoy – Jealousy gets you out of Ohio or Toronto…no?

  • Dacre Posted: Jul.21 at 10:04 pm
I think the greatest thing that anyone could do for Kobe Bryants career and persona was this situation: Having the Miami Thrice-girls Wade, LeBron and ‘Bosh-spice’ join forces. Let the hatred begin.

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.21 at 11:19 pm
Whatever Eboy, the way the wade lbj and bosh have acted makes it easy to hate. Your arrogant attitude also makes it easy, by all means support your team but what would you be saying if bosh and LBJ had gone to the lakers this season to team up with kobe? or Wade and LBJ went to the lakeshow?

  • Rusty Posted: Jul.21 at 11:21 pm
Perhaps not so much the way Wade has acted, i have a lot of respect for him, but Bron and Bosh have been tools since the “decision”.

  • Don Posted: Jul.21 at 11:50 pm
Yes. I believe Chicago signed some excellent pieces to go along with the playoff team that already existed. Impressive.

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.22 at 12:03 am
Rusty…you say that Wade hasn’t acted suspect in this whole thing? He was the one that “interviewed” with the Bulls twice, even though all reports before and after said that there was zero chance he was leaving Miami. He sat there and said how much it would mean to be close to his kids with the divorce happening, and yet picked playing in South Beach with Bosh and Wade over playing at home and being closer to his kids. And he’s the one that we constantly hear in the current news reports, apparently as the new and improved mouth-piece for everything Miami Heat. Wade reinforces the idea of Riley staying upstairs. Wade defends Lebron and says he didn’t quit. Wade says Chalmers is the starting PG for Miami. Wade makes an idiotic 9/11-basketball comparison. Does anyone else not notice that Wade has reaped more from this move than anyone else, tenfold? And with his “Chicago doesn’t take care of their own / I’d really love to play for the Bulls” flip-flop make anyone else doubt his sincerity? Personally I find Wade’s BS the biggest load of crap in this whole saga.

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.22 at 12:06 am
***and yet picked playing in South Beach with Bosh and James***

  • Rick L Posted: Jul.22 at 1:04 am
Most people seem to think the Bulls will win 50 with this team next season. C’mon, all. This team is going to get closer to 60 wins than 50. And we should be fighting Orlando and Boston for second seed. Anything less than that will be a disappointment.

  • R2J Posted: Jul.22 at 1:35 am
The Bulls are more than primed to get 50 wins this year. Miami can enjoy the 03′ trio but we got Boozer, Rose, Noah, Brewer, Korver, Deng, Gibson and now you add an underrated PG in CJ Watson. This team could be the best Chicago Bulls team we’ve seen in years. Miami, Orlando, NY/NJ LOOKOUT for the Bulls! It’s a new ball game.

  • Ian C Posted: Jul.22 at 1:48 am
Solid moves. They are becoming a team with some depth. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

  • NBA kid Posted: Jul.22 at 2:19 am
bulls will get third seed, no way the celtics get more wins than chicago

  • Hursty Posted: Jul.22 at 3:21 am
The Bucks are just as good a team as the Bulls are right now. Both had great off-seasons. Don’t sleep on the Bucks.

  • J Posted: Jul.22 at 4:33 am
Good, there are some holes, like being a bit undersized at the frontline, but with 2 good D players in booz and noah, plus a defensive coach that shouldnt matter. 50 plus wins? Sure! Contenders? It will depend on that Rose guy.

  • J Posted: Jul.22 at 4:37 am
Hursty.. yes bucks. Watch out for Larry Sanders! Both bulls and bucks will go far not by the bigmen they have, but because of the Pointguards anchoring them.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.22 at 4:43 am
@ Bryan Crawford: Right, so tell what exactly is the “distinct different”? The Bulls totally didn’t “acquire” Carlos Boozer and Ronnie Brewer and CJ Watson?
With all due respect: What the heck are you talking about? Are you telling me, with the team Miami had last year, signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh wasn’t the best move for the team? That doesn’t help construct A TEAM, to have two of the BEST PLAYERS at their positions, on your TEAM, paired with one of if not THE best shooting guard in the league? What?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.22 at 4:45 am
Let me ask a serious question: How many people h@ting this Miami Big Three are Laker fans?
Seriously, I dislike the words “h@ting on” because it’s a copout term usually used by sh!tty rappers today, but some of you… Yeah don’t make me use it!

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.22 at 4:46 am
    ***”distinct difference”?

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.22 at 5:38 am
Teddy: have you read Crawford’s articles? Exactly why are you surprised he doesn’t make sense?

  • Toni Kukoc Posted: Jul.22 at 6:41 am
    Chicago Jazz FTL

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon Posted: Jul.22 at 7:19 am
WOW. good offseason? yes…better offseason than Miami? YOUR FU#KING DELUSIONAL..even the Knicks might had one better; Amare´s bettar than Booz and Randolph/Felton betta than Brewer/Korver..now, the Bulls are a better team than the Knicks but NY had the best offseason outside of Miami

  • bdub Posted: Jul.22 at 7:23 am
Bryan Crawford you’re kooking it. Miami are still building a team. Just in a different way. Bulls definately top 5 in east this year.

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon Posted: Jul.22 at 7:27 am
    agree with reflex on Deng

  • ClydeSays Posted: Jul.22 at 7:39 am
I think Chi is very good team on paper. But they have a big question mark with Boozer durability and health. Also Kover is a ghost on defense. Coach Thib will insist every player picks up their assignments, so that could be an issue. Still, great pickups. They could surprise alot of people. The core of Rose/Deng/Noah is a good one. We’ll see…

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.22 at 8:24 am
@Rusry, No superstar would want to play with Kobe. He’s a douchebag rapist. A winning won for sure, but he’s about as beloved amongst his peers as I am in these comment sections.

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Jul.22 at 10:15 am
As a Chicago fan, I like what the Bulls did this off-season. But let’s not go overboard with excitement; Korver is a great shooter and little else, Brewer is a great defender/energy guy but little else neither are what I would consider surefire starter-material on a Championship contender. Boozer is a good PF but Dirk, Gasol, Bosh, Duncan, Amare, and Garnett are all far better and guys like D.Lee, Z. Randolph and Aldridge are around the same level, so it is not like Bulls’ get a player that will dominate his position. Further with Noah kind of undersized at the 5, and Boozer standing 6-8 or 6-9 with short arms and little leaping ability the Bulls look kind of small inside. Rose is real good and might be great someday, but there are many good PG’s in the league and I really don’t see him improving to a level where he is far better than players like CP3, Deron, Jennings, Wall, Curry, Tyreke (maybe more of a SG), Westbrook and at least for a couple of more years the older guards like Nash, T. Parker – I hope that this Bulls team will challenge but I personally believe that they are at least a surefire All-Star away from being anywhere near LAL, Heat, Celts, Magic, and Thunder. They are more in the same level as Portland, Spurs, Dallas, Suns, Jazz and Bucks if these teams stay healthy one or two of them might put together a good run but the Bulls are unfortunately not winning a ring for at least 3 seasons, and by that time Boozer will be on the decline Carlos is no spring chicken and his health and athleticsm is already questionable.

  • Allenp Posted: Jul.22 at 10:41 am
    Bryan Crawford
Do you really think the Heat aren’t “building a team”? I know it’s popular to point out the team’s lack of depth, but they have about 8 solid rotation guys. I’m not sure what else you need considering the fact that you two of the three best players in the league on one squad and one of the top five power forwards in the league as well.
Chicago has a nice squad and if Rose and Noah continue to develop along with Gibson, they could be contenders in a couple years. But, right now, there is no question which team most knowledgable basketball fans would consider the better “team.”

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Jul.22 at 11:06 am
Don’t be wasting your time Allenp. It’s like discussing with a door. Anybody with a little bit of sense can see that LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Z, Haslem, Chalmers, Miller, Jones, Anthony, Howard and Magloire are a far better team than what the Bulls have. Considering that LeBron, Wade and Bosh will all play +35 minutes Heat actually have a very deep team.

  • T-Money Posted: Jul.22 at 11:27 am
What’s underrated about Miami right now is the number of bodies they have at the 5. Z, Magloire, Anthony and Pittman just have to be straight goons vs Orlando and LA (the only 2 teams that pose a serious threat at the 5). Foul the sh-t out of Dwight, Drew and Pau.

  • Allenp Posted: Jul.22 at 11:27 am
    LZ
Ok, I thought I was tripping or something. I mean, those role players aren’t world beaters, but Shaq and Wade had even less, and let’s not even discuss what the Spurs and celtics were working with when they got their chips.

LZ, I would cosign your entire giant post but putting OKC on ORL,LAL,BOS and MIA level´s just not that clever..they´re cleary on the second tier you put in next.

Well with what the Bulls have done getting players I dont think just 50 win will be the most I am looking at 55-58 games and win the central probably making them a second or third seed. This year is the year of
second team players who can decided who wins what, just having a first team wont win it subs will play a great role in determining everything in the NBA this season and so on.

I’ve grown up watching the Bull’s along with my brothers and 70 yr. old grandma. I love them to death, though the good years(Michal Jordan era) and though the bad years recently. Going on 10 odd years without a championship, but the blakhawks showed that Chicago is a winning city and will not quit without a fight.
