Carmelo Anthony to Take Nuggets’ 3-Year Extension?

According to the Denver Post, Anthony is expected to sign on the dotted line in Denver. It’s only a matter of time: “Nuggets all-star Carmelo Anthony is expected to take Denver’s three-year, $65 million extension offer, an NBA source said, but Anthony doesn’t have a timetable as he prepares for his wedding Saturday and waits to see how the Nuggets bolster their beleaguered frontcourt. While this is where Melo stands today, nothing is definite until he signs the contract, and he will naturally keep an eye on free-agent signings this month to see how all the teams make moves … As for Anthony, the Nuggets have pondered trading him if he doesn’t re-sign with the team, but it seems that will become a moot point because of Anthony’s seriousness about re-signing with Denver instead of testing free agency next summer. Anthony has spent much of the summer in Los Angeles. In June, he said the Nuggets ‘have pieces,’ adding that he would be happy with the addition of ‘one or two more pieces that’ll work out.’ The Nuggets’ nucleus is all under contract for next season. Asked if the current Nuggets’ roster can win a title, Anthony said: ‘Obviously it didn’t happen this year. They definitely need to add something, definitely.”‘

I hope Melo holds out and waits to see what Denver does to bolster their roster this off-season. Denver’s biggest off-season move will likely be brining back Linas Kleiza. That’s not bolstering the Nuggets frontcourt. That’s adding Josh Kroenke’s BFF who the Nuggets kept instead of trading for Ron Artest. Melo should keep the off-season pressure on Denver, and see if they worry more about winning than they do luxury tax. In Denver Batman (Melo) needs some help, and Denver has shown lately to be more committed to saving Stan some more money. Should Melo sign that extension to stay in Denver he’ll be paid, but trapped in a bad relationship that will cost him his true NBA legacy. That would be like KG staying in Minnesota instead of pushing for a trade to Boston. We’ll soon find out how bad Melo wants to raise his image in the NBA by winning a championship in New York. The time has come for Melo to jump out of his proverbial pond in Denver, and join the rest of the Big Fish in the Big Apple.

They’ve basically averaged better than 50 wins a year since George Karl took over (if you prorate the initial half-season). They’ve got a good team in Denver; I’d much rather take my chances for 3 years with Billups, Nene, and coach Karl than Amar’e, MLE point guard “X” and coach D’Antoni. That is of course if he asked for a trade now. If he wants to just wait it out and be the biggest-name UFA next year, maybe that’s the best decision for him. Not sure the Nuggets wouldn’t blink and trade him at the deadline though.

Go to NY next year. Nuggets are done. Don’t sign. BOOK IT!!!

co-sign Seed. Play out this last season but that core aint getting any younger/better. What he loses in NBA money from the next CBA’s terms he’ll make up in endorsements playing with Amare.

Honestly the Nuggets arent good enough to win right now… they need a major upgrade and if they don’t, i wanna see Melo go somewhere where he can play meaningful games

Honestly, the Nuggets should be in the hunt for a free agent if anything. I don’t know why they’re sitting around. Nene and Martin at big men is decent and all but imagine if they could pick up a guy like Boozer. JR Smith is a chucker. He’ll never be on a winning team if he’s starting at sg. He’d be one of the best bench players in the L but not too good of a starter. The only playoff success he’s had is 2 years ago and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get much better because the Nuggets aren’t adding pieces. Smith shoots terrible %’s and I hope Melo leaves.

I can see it’s alot of New Yorkers posting today. The Knicks are nowhere near competing for a chip. Melo should wait and become a free agent. Like Scoop Jackson said the bulls should just save their money and go after Melo.

Why would he do that when he could go to the Knicks next year? Oh yeah, because they’re the Knicks.

At the end of the day Carmelo’s NBA legacy, as well as his bank account, would come out ahead playing in New York compared to Denver. The fact is the Sky’s the Limit financially in the Big Apple for Melo and his family. Stay in Denver because of new cba scare tactics, or be the prodigal NYC son who returns home to play for the Knicks, and win some championships? Hmmm

    Nuggets!!!!!!!!!!!!

@iamorangeforever Melo is from Baltimore he doesn’t even claim that he’s a New Yorker other then saying he was born there.

Ain’t folk quick to forget? They were in the Western Conference Finals 2 years ago. I agree they need to make a move, but until Martin and Melo were both injured last season, everyone was still thinking Denver was the team to beat LA in the West. If George Karl doesn’t go out, their frontcourt doesn’t play on one leg, and JR Smith finds a cure for bipolar and finds some old form with it, who’s to say they don’t?

Sign the extension so you’re getting your money anyway. Wait it out, see if Denver bolsters the frontline. They’re in a much better position than NYC to make a title run atm.
