Celtics Hire Lawrence Frank as Assistant Coach

Not a bad look for Frank, who could become a candidate to succeed Rivers after the ’10-11 season. Frank will immediately provide Boston with seasoned coaching experience. From Adrian Wojnarowski: “The Celtics have hired ex-Nets coach Lawrence Frank as an assistant on Doc Rivers’ staff, league sources say. He replaces Tom Thibodeau.”

relax riggs. Frank’s a pretty good coach. He’s no Thibs, but I think he’ll learn a lot under Doc.

That’s a solid replacement for Tom.

im sorry but lawrence frank is a mediocre coach, and his only success was what he learned from byron scott during his final year and having jason kidd the year after. when it was time for him to create his own playbook and run his own sets and substitution patterns he didnt know wtf he was doing.

Darko is to Vlade Divac as Frank is to Thibs.

NBA TV has 7 days to match that offer.

Maybe they signed him because it’s Doc’s Final year? Or does Doc have a few more years left on his contract?

riggs sounds like he knows what he is talking about. same shyte i’ve thought about him. i actually thought his best year as a coach was his last with the nets where he was forced to really coach when trades and injuries decimated his roster. but then he got fired. too bad. he should be a solid assistant though if he can focus on defense cuz offensively dude seemed lacking in creativity.

@ Eduardo. Doc has one more year left. They need to re-sign Nate. Sheed is gone, but he won’t announce his retirement until Danny trades his expiring contract next year… that will likely allow them to add someone of value during the season, and solidify the bench.

We’ll see how Thibs does as a head coach. Maybe some people are just suited to be assistants.

Especially “defensive specialist” assistants… in the regular season it is pretty much easy to get some offense going. But in the playoffs, you need to make on the fly defensive and offensive adjustments to win. You need to be a bit creative to get some buckets when Ds are intense. I think Thibs will be a great regular season coach, but his team will not do well in the playoffs. It happens to most assistants that started as defense coordinators (Brown, Frank, Carlisle etc…)

He’ll fit right in with the way he curses on live television.
