David Kahn’s Opinions on Beasley, Weed, C-Webb

Kaaaaaaahhhhhn opened his mouth to talk yesterday, and as always, it was wildly entertaining. The Star Tribune breaks it down: “KSTP 1500 AM radio just played a taped interview their afternoon show did with David Kahn, who once again wasn’t at a loss for words … Michael Beasley smoked too much pot in Miami, but he’s a changed man now. Make that, changed young man. ‘He’s a very young and immature kid who smoked too much marijuana and has told me that he’s not smoking anymore,’ Kahn said, ‘and I told him that I would trust him as long as that was the case.’ On being something of a youtube sensation for a contentious NBA TV interview with Chris Webber from NBA Summer League last week: ‘He’s kind of a schmuck, isn’t he? Methinks that he spent a lot of time on NBA TV with a former Timberwolves person and he seemed to come into the interview with an agenda. Tough questions are fine, but I felt like he was a little defensive about some of the  things.”‘

I thought that was confidential. Fine for Khan? Smart though, to put that out there publicly. Now, Beasley is pressured to live up to his promises. Let’s see how this goes.

HiGH-Larious. But it is true, so what’s the problem? -

kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahnnn will be the only reason anyone talks about the twolves this season unless Darco has an MVP year lmao

Did he really use the word “Methinks”? WTF? I hope he gets fined big too for breaking confidentially clauses and I’m not sure in the NBA if drug abuse/addiction/use is considered a medical problem, but he is also violating Federal HIPPA laws, so Stern needs to come down hard on this fu*king airhead.

Shmuck? Pot calls the kettle black, methinks

I do agree with Kahn though, in that interview during summer league, Chris “Jelly Roll Effect” Webber seemed very schmucky. Signed, The Legend of Ralph Wiley!

  • T-Money

    He called C-Dub schmuck?! Wow.

Ralph Wiley would have congratulated C Webb for refusing to let Kahn compare him to Darko.
    Cause that was ridiculous.
Everybody says Darko is a great passer, but he’s never shown it in a game. Dude is 25, all these amazing skills he’s supposed to have have never been displayed consistently and since he’s been in the league for 7 years now and is the same age as Lebron, well I think Webber was more than justified to cut Kahn off.
C Webb didn’t have an agenda, he just watched Kahn’s moves like every other sane person in America and said “WTH”?

“Once Webb got in the league, he was, really, a boy of 19 in a man’s body. Well, no … a man in a Titan’s body. Webber’s body is out of Greek mythology, or a Marvel comic. Always was. Believe it or not, this hurt him. He was always bigger, stronger. When he wasn’t, that didn’t compute to him. That’s the Jelly Roll Effect — when you always have to have the sweet end of the deal to play,” said Ralph Wiley. So, in that regard, I guess Darko and C-Webb do have a little in common.

Kahn wins qoute of the year for comparing Darko to manna from heaven. That’s an instant classic right there.

    Orange 4 Ever
First, I want to say “What’s up” to a fellow Wiley acolyte because you don’t meet enough of them.
Second, I remember that column, and it was about Webber’s inability to become an all-time great because of a lack of mental toughness, and I think it might have even made some connections to his questionable decisions to claim the “hood” despite growing in a stable, working class family.
That does not mean Chris Webber couldn’t get mad about being compared to Darko, or being called a shmuck for asking serious questions.
Remember what Wiley wrote about a reporter’s response to Shaq using the word “enigma”?
Wiley was sensitive to attempts to limit what athletes could discuss and how they had to discuss those issues. I don’t think he would have had a problem with what Webb said, I think he would have scoffed at Darko getting compared to Webber considering his body of work in the league, and I think he would have seen beyond Kahn’s faux outrage and noticed that Kahn was basically saying:
“Who does this Webber guy think he is questioning me. He must have had those questions planted by McHale because there is no way he thought of that type of stuff on his own.”
that’s what I think Wiley would have seen, but it’s all speculation.

David Kahn is a nut. I watched the the video yesterday, and I thought to myself he is a little strange, but as the video went on I realized he is fucking crazy. This only serves as more evidence. No wonder Chris looked uncomfortable sitting next to him. Lmao, I don’t think they turned to look at each other throughout the whole thing. Free Minnesota!

I don’t see the problem, David. Seriously, this guy might be the most entertaining GM since Isiah.
