David Lee Sign-and-Trade in Place with Warriors

If the Knicks don’t land LeBron, the Warriors and Knicks reportedly will sign-and-trade David Lee to Golden State for Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike. From CSN’s Matt Steinmetz: “The Warriors and Knicks have agreed in principle to a sign-and-trade deal that would send power forward David Lee to Golden State for Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike, multiple sources confirmed on Thursday. According to one source, the terms of Lee’s contract have been agreed to, the paperwork has been completed and all that’s needed are the pertinent signatures.”

    No Monta? Bad Trade

  • Oli

if i was a knicks fan, i’d like it. they get 2 starters and a potential odom-type guy off the bench. plus, amare won’t have to play center now.

Good trade for both teams, tho I wouldnt have given up on anthony randolph yet, tremendous potential

  • nastierthanu

Can’t complain about that trade. At least the knicks received value for david lee. He’s been a lone bright spot thru the tumoil of the past 5 yrs. He will be missed

  • c_cantrell

giving up anthony randolf will one day come back to haunt them

  • unrel

it’s really a lee for randolph trade.. all star for upside.. only time will tell who got the better end on this deal.. NY just needs a solid PG to throw lobs..

  • http://slamonline.com JL

why would the warriors give up randolph? they won’t even give him a chance to play.

  • http://null.com Reemo

Anthony Randolph is finally free!! Too bad Steph Curry is still trapped

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Kelenna Azubuike to the Knicks? Sounds awesome.

  • Severus

@reemo he’s finally free and went to the knicks not much of a difference

  • Drew

I hope they make this trade. Anthony Randolph is going to finally get his breakout year next season under D’Antoni. I still remember last summer league…

  • http://www.hufsf.com Waylonakolipse

Randolph couldn’t, and will probably never be able to guard big PF’s. Udoh, backed by Wright, can. Lee and Biedrins will be the top rebounding duo at C. And they didn’t lose any scoring punch. The Warriors have greatly improved and looks to be having the 2nd best offseason to the Miami Heat. If they stay healthy 2011 holds a legit shot at the playoffs and an allstar at pg. BD and Captain Jack will be the ball lickers. They will kiss our assholes.

  • Gym Rat

Does anybody remember the GSW v. Knicks game last year when Lee got up in Curry’s face for something? Anyone know what happened? I couldn’t tell from the replays.

  • ab_40

go minnesota on em get loads of players on one position. This means 4 pf’s of which one had potential and one bad knees. Thumbs up NYK management

  • c_cantrell

knicks all of sudden got alot better.. super athletic sg and extreme potential sf to at to thier starting line-up

  • http://twitter.com/HarryByrdMan44 LA Huey

God hates GState fans. Lee is nice but Randolph may have been too much.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

so the knicks couldn’t get monta? as a warrior fan i rather they keep those 3 hustle and heart guys instead of prima donna monta. that’s a much better team than having monta and curry trying not to kill each other.
and did someone just compare turiaf to odom or mentioned him as a starting center? i love dude coz he’s all heart and hustle but he isn’t a starter.

  • http://? Ron Sol

The warriors got a great deal. Whats the upside on Randolph 20 and 10. Lee’s already There. Monta and Steph are the highest scoring back court in the league. Warriors are looking legit. We need someone to step up at SF. Oh yeah, Udoh is bigger than Randolph, got a better vertical and wingspan, and is a better shot blocker and jump shooter. W’s for the playoffs baby.

So they sign Amare, then get Randolph? Sounds lke dude is going back to the bench to me.

  • John Starks

I think I’m gonna like Golden State tad bit more because they’re gonna have D. Lee….

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

That’s a HORRIBLE trade, f*ck that. If Donnie Walsh is stupid enough to go for it, he needs to stop. Seriously. If you’re going to get ANOTHER POWER-FORWARD in Anthony Randolph, why not just, you know, KEEP DAVID LEE? This is ridiculous, if the Knicks can’t get Monta, this deal is not worth doing. At all.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

And good job on drafting Andy Rautins instead of Lance Stephenson. That was really f*ckin’ great, wasn’t it?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Knicks don’t need a small forward, they have Wilson Chandler. Knicks need a shooting guard, and that shooting guard should be Monta Ellis. The only good I see coming from this trade (if it goes down) is if Wilson Chandler plays shooting guard and Randolph plays small forward. Toney Douglas starting, Amare at Power-forward, and Barron at center (with Turiaf coming off the bench).

  • http://www.clownpenis.com Tarzan Cooper

    Teddy is tense

  • http://claydefayette@yahoo.com Clay

What is so bad about Anthony Randolph? He’s an alright player. However, the Knicks shouldn’t take back any other contracts other than Randolph’s.

  • tavoris

from what I’ve seen of Randolph, he can back up Stoudemire at the 4 or play the 3. Mike D also likes to play Amare at the 5, so there are minutes to be had for Randolph.

  • tavoris

    Monta Ellis=OVERRATED

  • MikeC.

I do NOT want Monta on NY. D’Antoni’s system won’t work with a selfish stat-hog at the point. Monta isn’t big enough to defend the 2(not that D’Antoni would make him play D). Monta also has a huge contract that will be an albatross around the neck of NY’s cap. GS can keep him. I’m just glad David Lee gets to go somewhere he wants, and gets paid for the terrible time he had losing in NY. We’ll miss you DLee, keep crashing the boards.

  • MikeC.

@Clay – You know it! You took the words right out of my fingers.

  • wally

Randolph trade to knicks? too early to give up on him

  • http://claydefayette@yahoo.com Clay

Randolph’s a long, springy athlete that has a decent contract so if NY wants to go after Melo or whatever free agent next year if they don’t land LeBron they can, or they can trade him and continue to play basketball musical chairs with their roster.

To the Pro-Lee lovers out there. Ask yourselves this.

How has Lee helped the Knicks get to the playoffs in the 5 years he’s been with the team?

Answer: He hasnt. 2004 was the last playoff appearance for the Knicks, which was the year before he was drafted. Has he helped make the team any better? NO.

But you say…the Knicks team sucked, blah, blah, blah. Guess what? So does the Warriors. He’s 27 and will be locked in for another 5-6 years? That is just retarded to even fathom that it would be a smart move to lock him that long.

Are you prepared for Nelson to play him at C full time out in the perimeter shooting jump shots causing his rebounding to suffer?

You guys thought Magette was bad. Wait til he is reincarnated through Lee. Let’s see how you guys enjoy seeing another hollow stat player with a huge salary tie up future moves.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

shone… this is a fine move because it brings in a hustle attitude – guys like Randolph weren’t going to provide that. David Lee will continue to be productive and Golden State will be fine. Piece by piece is how this works.

  • http://slamonline.com mike

@teddy – You clearly don’t realize the upside that Randolph possesses. This player has consistently been mentioned as a potential All-NBA performer who brings a unique skill-set to MSG. Pairing him with Gallo and Amar’e gives the Knicks a potent front line. Gallo and Randolph both just 21 years old. Wake up son.

  • shone jones

Reeks of CWebb for Tom Gugliotta trade about fifteen years ago. The consensus for the Maggette trade was that it took a large long-term contract off the books. Lee is a huge long-term contract on, but his draw, star-power, whatever-you-want-to-call-it doesn’t match the $80 million figure. I thought we saw with Reggie Williams that you can pull a guy out of D-League if you just want points and boards (which is really all Lee offers).

    Dumb move by Golden State.

  • http://slamonline.com JL

    PG-Toney Douglas?
    SG-Azubuike (can hit 3)
SF-Chandler/Gallinari (personally I think gallinari is better, but might work out better for the bench firepower)
C-Amare (fast smallball team doesn’t need to play D… LOL)

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

@ mike: I agree, but that’s not my point. We have Amare and Wilson Chandler, neither of who we should give up. Anthony Randolph IS a great talent, but he shouldn’t have to come off the bench for anyone. He needs a better gig, and the Knicks need to be able to give Wilson Chandler a bigger role, and obviously have Amare take up that mantle.
Why not get an All-Star caliber shooting guard to complement Toney Douglas? If that were to happen, the Knicks would be set at all 5 positions.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

JL: Wilson Chandler is clearly better than Gallo. That’s not even debatable.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

If the starting line-up ends up like the one JL listed, I’d like the trade. And yes, obviously Toney Douglas should start. That kid has star written all over him, belie’dat.

The heat seriously dumped his ass.

  • rikson

Man I would love New York to have a great team again… Well they just dumped the last two seasons to get amare????

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

you guys are seriously underating monta’s on ball defense. ask kobe and durant how they do one-on-one against monta

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

oh and teddy, you’re gonna love buki. he’s seriously going to rip isht in ny

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Ha I hope so, man. As an honest question, from somebody who respects Azubuike but hasn’t seen him play nearly as much as you have: Do you think he has All-Star potential?

  • Pingback: SLAM ONLINE | » Anthony Randolph Stunned By Trade to Knicks

  • tavoris

@Teddy-Azubuike will never be an all-star, but he will hit open shots, defend, and play hard every possession. The Knicks fans WILL love him.
