Derrick Rose: ‘I’m Never Leaving Chicago’

Chi-town native Rose has an encouraging message for the Bulls and their fans. Via ESPN: “As Cleveland Cavaliers fans continue to deal with the fallout from losing their hometown hero LeBron James, Bulls fans will be happy to know the mind set of Chicago native Derrick Rose on his future. ‘I’m never [leaving],’ he said, before punctuating that statement a few seconds later. ‘Never.’ The Bulls’ 21-year-old All-Star made that clear during a conversation with me on Wednesday afternoon before Day 2 of Team USA’s training camp. The South Side native doesn’t want to ever play anywhere besides Chicago. After all the free-agent ups and downs Bulls fans have endured over the last couple of months, that declaration may be the best thing they’ve heard all summer.”

It would be funny if he got traded in a few of seasons if the Bulls can’t get any further than second round appearances.

  • Donnell Suggs-Atlanta Voice reporter Posted: Jul.22 at 9:35 am
That’s how a TRUE homer is suppossed to feel. The fact that he actually said it makes him even more true blue to his hometown. Much props to D. Rose.

  • LDR4 Posted: Jul.22 at 9:41 am
    Derrick Rose has true character.

  • J Posted: Jul.22 at 9:42 am
rose is a bandwagoner.. just kidding.

  • lexluther703 Posted: Jul.22 at 9:46 am
Music to my ears man.. this kid is everything: humble, talented, hard-working, etc. He could def use a speech class or a media-coach kind of deal, but this dude is the realest of the real, and I’m glad we’ve got him in the Chi

  • TrailBlazing&SportingLisbon Posted: Jul.22 at 9:53 am
hes great, but Chi management better not screw around like the past decade or he´ll change his mind if he wants to win.

  • Allenp Posted: Jul.22 at 10:20 am
    He’ll never leave.
    Until he changes his mind.

As a Bulls fan, I find it rewarding to have a franchise player in the mould of Rose. All hail Rose, Durant and the like; real men with real carachter and loyalty. Let LeBron, Bosh and the rest of the overgrown teenagers stroke themselves while watching re-runs of ‘The Decision’.

  • Ryan Jones Posted: Jul.22 at 10:26 am
I like Derrick, but this is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard a professional athlete say.

  • rayraynz Posted: Jul.22 at 10:46 am
@Lz – that is the worst spelling of the word character I have ever seen. (carachter). Aside from that though I totally agree you my man!

  • Groves Posted: Jul.22 at 10:47 am
whether he’s going to leave in the future or not is not the point. the point is he just gave away a bargaining chip the size of Greater Chicago

  • niQ Posted: Jul.22 at 10:53 am
    Never say never.

  • namik Posted: Jul.22 at 10:54 am
I smell another emotional Ryan Jones piece…

  • Bruno Posted: Jul.22 at 11:00 am
as niQ said … never say never

  • bill breedley Posted: Jul.22 at 11:06 am
Love fact that Rose is no puss. He may never win if Jerry does not get pieces in but love the loyalty. He may gripe in a few seasons ala Kobe, but we all Know it’s just going to be his way also of jolting management to not waste his prime.

  • Lz - Cphfinest3 Posted: Jul.22 at 11:09 am
RayRaynz; ups my bad, maybe I should proofread my comments in the future.

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Jul.22 at 11:10 am
….he can live in Chicago and still play elsewhere…

  • The Black Rick Kamla Posted: Jul.22 at 11:13 am
he’s young, he’ll eventually learn this is a business not a family

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Jul.22 at 11:17 am
Props to Rose, but put him on the Raptors, and see if he says he’s never leaving Toronto. No offense to BC though.

  • T-Money Posted: Jul.22 at 11:31 am
1- GarPax would trade him in a heartbeat if the Bulls are going nowhere in 5 years. 2- It’s easier for Rose to say that because he has no real pressure to win ‘chips, there’s no clock ticking for him. Nobody will bash him for being a contender for the rest of his career and having a nice HOF career. The urgency is not there.

  • Kevin Posted: Jul.22 at 11:51 am
love this about D-Rose, but stupidest thing he could possibly do

  • slamfan4life Posted: Jul.22 at 12:00 pm
How is this stupid? Dude would get shot if he ever left anyway, Chicago isn’t some soft city….yeah MIA im talkin to you! oh and Eboy It’d be funny if DWade got busted his ass, Chris Bosh broke his face, and LeBrons knee caps exploded

  • Drew Posted: Jul.22 at 12:17 pm
Co-Sign @TheBlackRickKamla – Every star player says those same words when their team is on the ups, but if they start to go down or stay at a certain level and can’t get over the hump then they want out. It’s a business.

  • The Nupe Posted: Jul.22 at 12:20 pm
I’m glad he feels that way, but he’s young and he feels that way now. Plenty of time to change his mind. I’m sure his agent cringed when he heard that.

  • LA Huey Posted: Jul.22 at 12:21 pm
No wonder somebody else had to take his tests for him to get in school.

  • ends Posted: Jul.22 at 12:32 pm
Whats he gonna do for road games than?

  • 919BW1LL Posted: Jul.22 at 12:32 pm
In the end the NBA is a bizznes, whose to say he wont change his mine or just get traded.

  • The D Train Posted: Jul.22 at 12:44 pm
Announcing your loyalty to your hometown is stupid. Freakin’ hippy, utopian ideals. What a joke.

  • DreXnaW21 Posted: Jul.22 at 12:53 pm
I LOVE DERRICK ROSE, LeBron should learn more from him, LeBron a.k.a. hometown villain

  • Enigmatic Posted: Jul.22 at 1:09 pm
I fail to see how this is stupid. Dude’s just being real. Whatever though. Mad props to Derrick Rose. As Nate Rob would say, “MY N*GGA!”

  • ciroqobama Posted: Jul.22 at 1:23 pm
The kid is 21 years old…. enough said.

  • tealish Posted: Jul.22 at 1:46 pm
This can’t be smart. Great for Chi fans, but not great for D Rose.
Think it, show it, but don’t say it.

  • Dre Posted: Jul.22 at 1:57 pm
slamfan4life, why would people getting hurt be funny? That sounds quite childish. D. Rose spoke like a true kid and not like a calculating adult. You never say anything like that, for a couple of reasons. First, is because you just gave the team a free license to piss on you. Secondly, things change circumstances change and you don’t want to look like a liar by making such a bold statement. These people talking that loyalty crap got to understand, that is a 2 way street. Getting the right people around your star player or not really giving a crap is the difference between being loyal and not being loyal.

  • NBA kid Posted: Jul.22 at 2:31 pm
I feel like chris paul said this like 3 years ago and he just demanded a trade….

  • Jay Posted: Jul.22 at 3:37 pm
DATS MY BOI!!!!!! HE NEVER GOIN TO LEAVE US!!!! CHI-TOWN LUV!!!!

[...] Rose ‘Never Leaving Chicago’ [...]

  • Scottie Pimpin' Posted: Jul.22 at 6:04 pm
He probably wont ever leave, mainly cuz hes too good and important for the Bulls organization to let him. Always say Never, especially when you mean it…..Pimps Up !

  • jay Posted: Jul.22 at 6:07 pm
hope he will be one of those who will play their entire career for one team

  • Tarzan Cooper Posted: Jul.22 at 6:51 pm
Cosign lahuey. Also, its funny the huge pass he has gotten for that

  • monkeyball Posted: Jul.22 at 6:52 pm
@The D Train: Loyalty is a “hippie, utopian ideal?” Man I’m glad I don’t know you in person…

  • Robb Posted: Jul.22 at 8:21 pm
    I love DRose.

  • LA Huey Posted: Jul.22 at 10:15 pm
Michael Redd: Declare your undying loyalty and your team will repay it.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Jul.22 at 11:30 pm
People really do hate this heat team. I’ve never heard so many fans hoping and praying that they get badly hurt. That’s something that no matter how much u dislike a person, u never wish anything evil on them. Karmas a bit*h.

  • Tom Posted: Jul.23 at 7:32 am
I guess he will only play 41 games next season…

  • Coney Islander Posted: Jul.23 at 9:20 am
Don’t get too hype yet, that’s easy for him to say, it’s Chicago and not a genital wart of a town like Cleveland!

  • Alpha-bet Posted: Jul.23 at 9:21 am
Never say never young man. This statement could backfire in a major way 5 years from now.

  • ClydeSays Posted: Jul.23 at 2:28 pm
That’s great but I’d bet CP, LeBron, Shaq, Alonzo, GP, KG & Iverson said the same thing at one point…

  • Yesse Posted: Jul.23 at 5:16 pm
Didn’t LeBron say the same a few seasons ago?

  • O'Neezy Posted: Jul.23 at 6:40 pm
I think we all appreciate his zeal to play for the Bulls and I could understand why as a fan you would feel this way. We can’t only compare it to Lebron’s example. Vince Carter, Baron Davis, Chauncey Billups, Eddy Curry, Trevor Ariza, Drew Gooden, and Stephon Marbury all played for their home/state team. For some it has been a good experience, but I think it hasn’t worked out that well for many players.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.23 at 11:57 pm
Now that he’s said this, if he leaves in the future Chicago will be burning his jersey…

  • total scrotal implosion Posted: Jul.24 at 10:22 am
After he never makes it past the second round in the next 6 yrs he will demand a trade to toronto

  • dale a Posted: Jul.24 at 3:22 pm
D Rose is from the south side of Chicago and he also went to Simeon High School. The one thing we have if nothing else is loyalty. Yeah he probably should’nt have made such a bold statement, but that’s how he feels and good for him. As long as he gives maximum effort and does all that he can do to win ; this city will love him for it . And he will be respected and cherished. We all know the buisness side of it. If the Bulls try to screw him and the public senses it,he would be forgiven if he had to go. But at least it is a start that this young man has a foundation of honor and loyalty to his team and city. And he seems like the type of guy that would rather fail trying his damndest than run to the enemy asking for help ! Like Lebron the prison B***h. Can’t make it on his own so he will do anything he has to !

  • joyonta Posted: Aug.25 at 5:01 pm
@The Black Rick Kamla NO HE CANT dont hate on derrick’s personal view of the game this kis a sign that some one in the nba actually cares about the game not the money, fame or hookers!
