Dirk Nowitzki: ‘I Want Shaq!’

There have been rumblings about the Mavs wanting Shaq for some time now, and according to Dallas Basketball (and their best stab at a translation from German to English), Dirk definitely wants the big fella: “Here’s your hook: ‘I Want Shaq!’ says … Dirk Nowitzki. That’s the headline on the German sportspage, and while I don’t think those are Nowitzki’s exact words, our German-to-English translation makes it clear enough: ‘On the basis of his experience,’ Nowitzki said of O’Neal, ‘he would be a great addition to our team. He is still a dominant center, and opens space for others.’ There’s a lot to consume in that one sentence. (And it is worth noting: This is obviously Dirk answering questions from the news outlet which was motivated to ask by the latest wave of Shaq Likes Dallas rumors. So factor in Nowitzki’s politeness — to the questioner and to the subject, too.)”

if they (or any other team) really want him, hopefully the cavs can work something for shaq (sign and trade) so the cavs can have something in return.

    Dirk, are you serious!!!

  • AT33

F* that sign and trade crap. He’s a free agent he can go anywhere he pleases, no trade needed.

Shaq has always liked the city of Dallas. We have shooping and resturaunts as our main attraction so any one with money can have a good time. Can Shaq handle the roll of bench player? That’s what he would be on the Mavs behind Haywood.

  • ConeyIslander

    “Welcome to Miami”- Will Smith

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Why not? Although Shaq ain’t coming off the bench behind Brendan Haywood….that’s a huge waste of money.

  • Overtime

Get him to the Lakers, jus for laughs

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Haywood’s contract, I mean, if they bring Shaq in and he pouts about not starting.

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Fine, as long as no one entertains the stupidness of him coming to Miami.

  • The Philosopher

I hope Shaq goes back to Miami.

  • AL29

Please bring him to the Raptors.

Shaq is a shell of his former self but just being on the court he makes a positve impact. I’m not sure if he’s ready to admit he’s not a starter anymore and even in Cleveland said he would come off the bench if needed. Either as a starter of off the bench Shaq would be a good pick-up.

  • The Philosopher

    ^Sorry, Cheryl.

  • LD

He should back up Dwight in Orlando.

  • c_cantrell

he would be good fit in miami.. they need a big body to play some solid post d, rebound, take up alot of space in the middle, (which they will strugle defending since they have no one who can stop any good centers), and to complement bosh’s softness with rough tough physical play (shaq fits the bill).. shaq would also take some attention away from bosh down low allowing bosh to free up for and get better open looks.. another perfect fit for shaq would be okc.. all has all the right piece but a dominating center.. shaq could give them the big body that they needed while being constantly abused by pau gasol and andrew bynum in the paint in the playoffs.. he would complement each player nicely and also give a young team some veteran leadership.. this move could push them over the top.. shaq would start of course with aldrich coming off the bench thus delaying aldrichs growing and maturing in the game and okc has shown they will let their young talent grow more than any team in the L.. tho shaq would be a great locker room presence and would doubtfully screw any chemisty up it is still unlikely the thunder will take a chance on hindering their young players from growing in the game

Shaq should come off the bench wherever he goes, the funny thing is that he would be sweating more than the starters playing. Also don’t expect him to finish any shots near the basket. He has the worst touch around the basket than anyone in history, though Dhow is closing fast.

  • haslem

in his prime he had one of the best touches around the basket. from 1999-2003 there wasn’t a surer two points in the NBA than Shaq next to the basket.

  • S-Man

Shaq is not coming to Dallas. The Mavs just traded damp, najera, and caroll for tyson chandler and ajinca..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

^If that’s true, Dallas is done.

  • http://aspov.blogspot.com Cheryl

Shaq burned that bridge in Miami, he should finish up his career in Dallas. give them the headaches. Miami’s got a bunch of guys that like each other–
Shaq would eventually destroy any chemistry that could/would develop. Plus, I doubt the three Amigos–having already been the brunt of Shaq’s questionable humor–would want his presence in the lockerroom. Nah, ain’t gonna happen.

  • The Philosopher

^^You are probably right about Miami.
I just want to see the… spectacle.

  • Kid Dynamite

Daaaamn homey, in 03′ you was the man homey…..while Kobe gets his rings Shaq is busy NOT winning rings, spoiling other team’s chemistry and conjuring up corny pregame entrances and stale jokes for interviews(for anyone bored enough to ask him for one). The Big Liability……

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Man, Shaq got drafted in 1992 after two years in college.
He ain’t supposed to be the man anymore.

  • Yesse

Well the good thing is, Shaq and Dirk would be doing pretty good. Bad thing is Mark Cuban, lol.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

He wants Shaq, but they got him Tyson Chandler…

  • T-Money

shaq tried to work the back channels in miami. apparently, dwyane, bron, pat and micky.. none of them are having it. very telling that bron reached out to z but not to shaq. no matter what he says, he’ll still b-tch about touches. and then throw flat jump hooks that almost break backboards.

  • Dyce

Dirk just needs someone really tough not fake tough!

  • Bassbesteck

damn, the first thing i thought about reading this was: “machen sie heizuuuung” ahaha

the first time shaq worked together with a german was with dj tommekk…

go to youtube and search for shaq and tommek i think the track is called how you like that.

If you thought shaq raps bad in english, hear him dropping one or two german lines in there…

btt: i seriously don’t think that will happen, since they just got chandler… but could be cool, especially if dirk does like with kaman and gets shaq to play for germany… ahahaha, i would watch every game of the german team then^^

  • hobbes

Yeah shaq to Mavs, aint nobody help out Miami!

  • logues

    nicko, where u at??

  • http://Www.lkz.cn Darksaber

Oh god, the DJ Tomekk collabo. I thought i was rid of that rather monstrous bit of ‘entertainment’. Machen sie Heizung was meant to b ‘make it hot’ in German but translates to ‘turn on the central heating’. Yeah, from that point pn, the song was doomed. As for Dirk wanting Shaq, not a good idea (although getting Charmin Chandler and his brittle bones isn’t gonna help either. Al Jefferson on the other hand….. that would be a monster move. Too bad Cubes is in a coma)

After just reading the original report, 3 things stood out for me: the Mavs have a war room where Donnie Nelson and his staff are seemingly hard at work trying to make moves. Donnie even claims he’s basically stayed in there for 2 weeks straight. (Donnie, if Chandler iscthe result of your efforts, do it from your living room couch).

Dirk wants Shaq more out of a sense of urgency, and also so the BIG can infuse some championship mentality into the team.(he hasn’t won in 4 seasons, D. Wishful thinking)
And finally, Dirks backcourt mates Terry (Mr fade-away when it counts) and Butler don’t share his belief that the Mavs need help. In fact they say they’ll be contenders this season. (don’t know if i believe that, i mean i WANT to, but losing against a Spurs team that got crushed by a Suns team that then got mauled by the Kobettes isn’t making me believe y’all!)

Dirk and Shaq = Twin Towers

  • I am the walrus

    Someone had to want him…

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

About Shaq to Miami… Why would Chris Bosh ever want to play with him after being called RuPaul publicly…. Nothing against transvestites but Shaq essentially called Bosh “the drag queen of big men.”

  • JoeMaMa

@Teddy: there’s also animosity between him and DWade, though not to the same extent as him and Kobe. He’s not going to Miami. He would NEVER go to Orlando to back up DHoward. Certainly not the Lakers. Why not Boston? And why didn’t the discussions with the Spurs go through? He lived there, they’ll be a contender (signed up Spanish League MVP Tiago Splitter), and he’ll get minutes. But apparently that fell through?!

  • Joe KIng

Maybe he should just retire to save his career averages

  • JoeMaMa

@Joe: Actually, he’s trying to get his groupie average up to 3.2 per roadtrip, so he’s definitely coming back.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

@joe king – dude at this stae n your career, it’s about TOTALS, not averages… I was see him get a whiff of the top all time, scoring, minutes and fg% leaders.

    Dirk Nowitzki is delusional.

    ffffffffffffffaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggg. HAHAHAHAH Dirk is gay.

  • RPVR_Tainha

I hope Shaq back to LA. So, Dirk want to play with him? Come to LA too.. lol
