Fisher To Remain A Laker

Kobe is greater than LeBron, we guess. Ramona Shelburne reports: “Derek Fisher has decided to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers. Credit Kobe Bryant with the assist. ‘I have decided to continue with Kobe, continue with our teammates and the fans of Los Angeles,’ Fisher said in a statement. ‘While this may not be the most lucrative contract I’ve been offered this offseason, it is the most valuable. I am confident I will continue to lead this team on and off the court. Let the hunt for six begin.’ The Lakers have won two straight titles and five in Fisher’s tenure with the team. He gets a three-year deal to return, with a player option on the final year. Monetary terms were not immediately available…Fisher, 35, had been courted by the Miami Heat. He met with Miami president Pat Riley and owner Micky Arison at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami on Saturday morning where the Heat told him it wanted him to be its starting point guard and to join LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. ‘I took time to consider all my options, many not reported in the media,’ Fisher said. ‘I listened to every coach, every general manager, even potential teammates in order to make the right decision and I thank every one of them. At the end of the day, there’s one person I could not turn away from. Kobe Bryant asked me to stay but supported whatever decision I made. He and I have played together for 11 seasons, came into the league together as kids, and has been loyal to me even when others had doubts. We have won five championships together.’”

Also, the Heat gave their money to Haslem, which probably helped his decision.

  • C-Lo_The_Great

  • peter

I knew Fish would make the right decision

Another season of complaints about how Fish is the weak link and can’t play D on the quicker 1′s. Then IF they make it to the finals how clutch he is.

  • kh

Nicely done Fish! Kobe’s got juice!

I told y’all he would remain a Laker. Derek is one of the best conditioned players in the league in terms of his physique and maintaining great shape and stamina for his age, there is no doubt in my mind he will have another superb season and lead the LA alongside Kobe and the rest of the crew. Great news.

  • capostat

What hasn’t been mentioned in any article (maybe out of fear of being inappropriate) is the fact that Fisher came back to LA because of the treatment availability of his daughter’s eye cancer.
We were all disgusted with those “Fisher lied” signs in Utah. I don’t think Fisher would have actually done something to prove them right. That was Jerry Buss’ leverage.

    Phew!

  • unrel

i wasn’t surprised by this at all..

    Great stuff Fish :D

The hunt for 6 begins muh’fukkas…

  • Yesse

That was scary. I’m glad he remains a Laker. Blake could have not done the shooting in the last minute, that Derek does.

  • http://www.clownpenis.com Tarzan Cooper

Yea he was real loyal when he took that big contract by golden state. And cosign capostat

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Kobe can’t lead that locker without Fisher, thus I knew the Lakers would give Derek what he wanted to re-sign in La La Land. lol

  • http://gmail dirty frank

    Glad he’s back.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Good for him and the Lakers. I’m glad. Go get that 6th

  • Robb

IAMORANGE4EVER the Lakers didn’t give him what he wanted. Read the article first post later.

  • JTaylor21

Nupe is right, kobe mistresses complain and bit** all season long, until the playoffs come around and fisher shows his true worth. Thats what they do, they pout about how shaq was overrated and fat just to downplay what he did for kobe and they will do the same in the future to gasol. Same thing happens with MJ lovers in regards to Pips importance. Whats funny is that fisher has hit way more clutch shots than the so-called closer.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

@Robb: Did Fisher turn down a better offer on the table from Miami to stay in La La Land? I guess I can’t find that part in the article. In the end, I’m happy for Kobe that the Lakers re-signed Fisher. Kobe would’ve been a mess if Fish left him for Wade!

  • nastierthanu4

what happened to the kobe’s such a jerk and blah blah blah blah. Love to read this.

  • Hurricane

JTaylor21- GET OFF KOBE’S SACK ALREADY LOSER

  • Jose

Riley knows he wasnt gonna be able to get him. i think he’s just trying to play games W/ LA

  • j-nuggz

im glad miami didnt get him, i hope big z turns em down too.

  • Crusher

This is an important signing for the Lakers for 2 reasons:

    1) It helps L.A. keep their depth
    2) It helps prevent Miami from developing depth

  • Kadavour

I’m not sold on this Derek Fisher Laker love. Short memories remember his clutch shots and not the defensive sluggishness that called for those shots in the first place. He would be worth his minutes if he could out-rebound the guards he faces, but he doesn’t have that in the tank anymore. 1st 3-peat Fish was a beauty to watch, this guy needs to play relief minutes and keep up bench morale, and help develop the Shannon Browns and Jordan Farmars in their rotation.

  • Robb

IAMORANGE4EVER “While this may not be the most lucrative contract I’ve been offered this offseason, it is the most valuable”. Anyway I’m happy for the Lakers too ;)

  • hobbes

    Yeah Fish!!! Now Brown.

  • Cool Dude

Fisher probably met with the heat to spy on them for the Lakers, like Wade did during the free agency period for riles.

  • http://celticknightk3@aol.com Celtic Knight

If Fisher had joined with Miami they probably would have a good lockdown on the championship title but it’s so unfortunate for Miami cos the point guard position is extremely important to championship teams in histoy to present. If Boston or Miami can’t find enough good players to fill their holes in their roster then Lakers will get their 6th and people are going to think this Kobe will be right up there with MJ which would be totally nonsense cos Kobe is in his prime and not ever and will never be the top 5 players in the NBA history.

  • Ali Saadat

I don’t think for a second Fisher would have actually left. I think he was teasing to just to see the offer. How do you win 5 chips with a team (and be a major piece) then just leave. I mean come on, he’s not LeBron, he has loyalty.

Guys must really hate playing with Kobe, they keep coming back.

  • http://slamonline.com Clay Fisher

This may sound like a silly comment… but why can’t Wade or Lebron play PG and get some scrub to play SG or SF? Wade would be ideal cause he is big, strong and quick enough to defend every PG in the league. Plus, the Bulls second 3 peat had MJ or Harper playing PG… so it could work in MIAMI

  • Jake

He’s really clutch, love the man to death but they need to make him the 6th man now at least until the playoffs start. You’d get so much more out of him that way, honestly. They should play Steve Blake for the first half of games and then Fish for the 3rd and 4th quarters.

  • hobbes

I agree with that Fish spy on Miami for Lakers and without a vet like him its hard to image Miami to win. Blake will be Fish’s back up so Fish can play less mins in the regular. Now let’s get Shannon n Josh back, we need these 2 guys too. Shannon provides the sparks and Josh is a quite locker room leader. Also other teams please don’t help out the Heat, and do Knicks a favor give them Paul n Melo, so the east 4 teams can beat up each other bad. And whoever come out will be owned by the Lakers in the next 3 years. Lets go 3, 4, 5 peat…

    ^^^^
Reason why I hate the Lakers

  • http://www.hufsf.com Waylonakolipse

Enjoy the view from the bench Derek, Blake takes your PG spot this year.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Glad Fisher choose loyalty and doesn’t mind the HEAT of trying to stay with his TEAM and not abandon his TEAM to play with other SUPERSTARS, when his current TEAM can WIN, if a PLAYER decides to step up and not be afraid to be a LEADER!!!

  • Justin

Seed, I don’t THINK you were able to EMPHASIZE your POINT quite as MUCH as you COULD have

  • The Philosopher

    Shout out @The Seed.

  • WangChung

    lol @ Justin

  • michaeldott

    Such a gent is Fisher.

  • JTaylor21

I finally agree with kobe’s seed on something, though relucatantly. kobe is no where the team leader that fisher is, without fisher kobe wouldn’t have 5 rings (its actually 1 1/2) but i digress.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    JTaylor21
You funny cat, you trying to down Kobe, whats up with that. The man has earned five rings. Kobe hasn’t been given anything in his career. Fisher is the leader through mouth at times in games and is Kobe’s criticizer at times. Kobe is the Lakers leader, you should know this. Now you saying Fisher is the reason to Kobe’s five rings, I didn’t know that. A TEAM wins RINGS, ask every team that has won the title each year. Without Robert Horry, the Spurs, Rockets and Lakers don’t have rings in some years. BOOK IT!!!

  • JTaylor21

Kobe’s seed then how come when bron loses, u fail to blame the team but are quick to call him out, putting all the blame on him, riddle me that.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    JTyalor21
Lebron quit on his team, game 5 and maybe others, but thats all speculation. But this is real, Lebron team was the second team in HISTORY OF NBA to win 60 games and not make NBA finals. Lebron’s team did this two years in a row. Explain that, because Lebron had an awesome game 3 against Celtics. Lebron team was good enough to make NBA finals, but not beat Lakers. BOOK IT!!

  • JTaylor21

You’ve have to differentiate teams by regular season and playoffs. the cavs are built for the season just for one reason LeBron and the same thing kills them during the playoffs. They depend on bron too much. You can depend on a that guy like that during the season and win lots of gms but in the playoffs its impossible. Look at what wade did in miami this year and last. the won 47 and 48 gms the past two years based soley on wade but look at what happened to them in the playoffs where he avg. 34ppg and they STILL lost in 5 . Same thing applies to the cavs. The playoffs are where teams win and where one-man gangs like wade and bron team’s falter. Explanitory enough for you. Also your enstranged father the black mamba hasn’t played with 100% effort before like against PHX GM7 yrs back. I wouldn’t call what any of them did as quitting because none of us have ever played that game at that level, so who are we to talk.
