Hedo Turkoglu Close to Being Traded for Leandro Barbosa
by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni
The rocky marriage between Hedo Turkoglu and the Toronto Raptors is on the verge of coming to an end. Prepare yourselves for Hedo, Arizona.
Late last night, the AZ Republic reported that a trade between Phoenix and Toronto will soon be completed, sending Leandro Barbosa and a few spare parts back to Canada for Turkoglu.
And oh yeah, the Suns are also going to land Josh Childress, who’s apparently decided that he’s had enough of Greece:
The Suns are on the verge of acquiring forwards Hedo Turkoglu and Josh Childress, swiftly rebounding from the loss of Amar’e Stoudemire with two impact players.
The Suns would send seven-year veteran guard Leandro Barbosa and late-season addition Dwayne Jones to Toronto for Turkoglu, a 6-foot-10 forward from Turkey with versatile skills to shoot from long range and be a playmaker. Toronto would then move Jones and its trade exception from the Chris Bosh sign-and-trade deal to Charlotte for former Suns forward Boris Diaw.
Phoenix will send a 2012 second-round pick to Atlanta in a sign-and-trade deal for Childress, who will leave Greece for a five-year, $33 million contract to play for the Suns. To come to Phoenix, Turkoglu is yielding about $5 million of his trade kicker and reducing the guaranteed money on the final year of his contract, which was worth $12 million in 2013-14. He also has an early termination option on that season.
It’s a tad confusing that Phoenix would willingly take on Hedo’s contract, when they were so adamant about not overpaying for Amar’e Stoudemire. That being said, Phoenix has been able to keep their team competitive since STAT’s departure.
The same thing, however, cannot be said for Toronto. That squad is going to be awful next season.

Raptors for worst record next season then?
Hedo: Ball.
And I’m not going Dan Gilbert on Bosh; I love the guy, and he gave us good years that we needed post-Vince. But I don’t have confidence in his health; that bulky brace he wears on his knee will only get bulkier.
Also, and I’ve been meaning to tell this story, though it’s not much to do with this thread: my buddy came upon Glen Grunwald when he was TO’s GM and asked him why we didn’t pick up DWade in the draft, as Bosh was a relative unknown at the time. He answered “we had concerns about his knees and ankles. He’ll be a player, definitely, but he’ll start to wear down after 7, 8 years, and we feel Bosh has more upside further along”. I think the only thing that’ll bring the Heat down is wear and tear on the big 3.
1) Getting Barbosa and Diaw for Hedo is great! At least we got something in return for his lackluster effort and season. (Lackluster may even be an understatement)
2) I agree we have a young and hungry team. I’m counting on this season to be the DeRozan and Weems’ season (although coach will probably make Bargnani the focus. fcuk.)
3) I also agree it will be a losing season BUT I believe if there is ANY SEASON TO TANK, THIS IS THE ONE. Next year’s draft is going to be big. Barnes, Kanter, Knight, Jones, Irving, etc. If the Raps get any of the Top 5 pick I will be happy. (Although they might waste it on Donatas Motiejunas (fml x2).
and @BET, if we can move Bargnani to the PF cause of Chandler then I’m all up for that. And in regards to Jose, cosign Chris. Don’t know what we’re going to do with one less PG though, although Boris Diaw DID originally play point guard…………………………………
THERE IS A GOD AFTER ALL….
Sureee, I think we’ve just paid Hakim, Hedo, and Childress a combined amount that would far exceed how much we could have paid Stoudemire, but I’m USED to that with all the crap Sarver has done, so I’m a bit excited!!!
Childress is a great addition. He balled in Europe his second year and absolutely embarrassed Spanny to the point where he’s excited to see him go, cause Childress was the second best player on his team, and the first best was the MVP. Either starting him as an undersized four with Robin or bringing him off the bench after Warrick, he’ll be pure impact. For sure.
Hedo? Well, I guess there’s only good that can come out of it. He will DEFINITELY take Grant’s position in the second unit as the point forward (and Grant can take over Barbosa’s position as shooting guard off bench) and run it exactly as the Orlando Magic used to do.
Question is, how good will he be in the starting lineup? He NEVER played with a guy who can get him the ball like Nash, but we’ll have to see if he can spot-it-up any better than Toronto, where he was terrible.
Hey, I gotta be excited. What else is there to be excited about?
Id actually forgotten about Demar. I like Barg tho, but he wont replace whats gone
SG – Derozan (Barbosa/Beli)
SF – Sonny! (Diaw)
PF – Bargs (Ed Davis)
C – Tyson (Amir) That’s a pretty fun group out there as long as Jarrett Jack doesn’t take the ball aimlessly to the hoop every time down the court…
If he could gear himself into a full-time point guard, it’d be one thing, but Spanoulis lovesssss to score. He’s the Tracy McGrady of Europe, you know.
Good move for the price tag, but certainly not an upgrade.
Teddy, if you want Lin that bad, talk to Colangelo. If this Calderon trade goes through, we’ll need a PG on the bench. I’ll sign the petition and I’ll even wear a hybrid Harvard/Hogtown jersey.
