Jerry Buss Not Worried About the Miami Heat

According to the Lakers’ owner, there’s nothing to fear down on South Beach. From FanHouse: “The Lakers aren’t scared of LeBron James and his Miami Heat Superfriends. So says the team’s owner, Dr. Jerry Buss. ‘Hardly,’ Buss told FanHouse when asked if the teaming of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh had him clutching his latest championship trophy in fear. ‘I didn’t pay much attention to (Thursday’s announcement from James). I was curious to see where he went, and once I found that out that was that.’ Buss’ sentiment was shared by many in the NBA’s first day of sum mer league action, where there was plenty of intrigue about what the three stars could accomplish together but also skepticism because of their nonexistent supporting cast … ‘Somebody in the East will come out, and our job is to beat them, whoever it is,’ he said. ‘There are a lot of good teams over there. I don’t automatically hand them the title. I think Orlando is very good. I think Chicago is going to be better. Boston, certainly, is tough. We know about that. So let’s wait until things get going.”‘

Yeah right, he’s not fearing a LeBron, Wade and Bosh trio in Miami. The Lakers are very good, but if you add some pieces to the Miami puzzle, they’ll be unbeatable.

  • Kap

Unbeatable??? No team is unbeatable no matter who they have on their team.

NO TEAM is unbeatable James. I for one am also not ‘worried’ by the Miami heat. The Heat need to prove they can play as a unit, or take turns getting out of each others way. They WILL need a bench regardless of how GOOD you think these three are. Bosh is soft and hasn’t proven he is a winner. LeBron play is unstoppable….when it’s the regular season and Wade has a championship because the referee’s rathered a German NOT win a finals MVP just yet.

I hate when guys who barely understand the game of basketball or the NBA make comments. It takes more than talent to win.

I hate it when ignorance takes over a discussion.

It really depends if they make through the season and are not worn out and/or injured by playoffs. I remembered when the heat won, down the stretch wade was getting every call, whenever he went to the cop. Kind of robbed Dallas but dirk and them folded under pressure too.

why would Buss be afraid?.. if the ‘big 3′ were in the west.. then yes.. be nervous and make moves.. but with them out east.. why be afraid?..

  • EMan

Eboy, do you remember a team called the 2003-2004 phoenix suns? I believe they had Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire, The matrix in his prime, and Steve Nash, not to mention a loaded bench. Point being, do you also remember them Hefting up the championship?

Basically stop getting so butt hurt about every little comment that doesn’t put the heat in a favorable light, face it, they made themselves goliath, now just recognize that everyone loves David.

Let’s see how they can co exist first. Even Wade, Bosh and LBJ don’t know it yet. The season is long, it’s not like the US Team or an All Star game. The regular season and playoffs are very tough and those big egos could clash at some point, specially at crunch time. I’m not worried either to be honest.

  • riggs

same reason he was scared of the celtics and they were in the east….his team is going to have to meet them sometime or other.

    Thank You, Buss!!!

The only thing that bothers me about this article is that it writes LeBron James and his Miami Heat Superfriends, whether it was just the article writre or Buss.

It’s not LeBron’s team. It’s Wade’s, and I’m just hoping this was one of the things that D Wade and Riley considered before the pitch was made to bring James over.

I think this will be a strategy used by coach’s and players through the season, especially in media opportunities to knock them off. Get James and Wade’s ego’s firing against eachother. Sort of like hearing Wade in the interview refer to them as the 631… Come on Wade… IT’S 361!

If anyone can get the proverbial cat amongst the pidgeons its PHIL JACKSON.

My guess is that these three guys will play fine together. LeBron’s game in general is more of a facillitator and now has teammates that can actually finish. It’s no secret that LBJ was the focal point during this entire FA season and Wade knew darn well that he would be sharing the spotlight with LBJ or maybe even having the team announced as “LBJ and the Heat” similar to how Paul had to deal with “KG and the Celtics” on many occasions. I think the combo on LBJ’s game and Wade’s maturity they’ll be fine. If anything, if I were a Heat fan I’d be worried about Bosh being seen as the ‘other star’ being a concern. Being a big versus a guard/point forward his game doesn’t overlap with DWade/Bron so may not impact too much – but I see Bosh as the only real ‘ego’ concern on the Heat. If I were Buss I wouldn’t be worried about Miami either, I think Kobe/Pau/Artest aren’t a bad match (not saying better) for Dwade/Bosh/Bron and then when you add in a healthy Bynum and Odom with whatever scrubs the Heat are able to pick-up I’d side with the Lakers.

I wear LBJ underwear but I’ll even admit the Lake Show shouldn’t worry…right now. While it won’t be a cakewalk to the Finals (they’re heavy favorites), the Heat’s postseason flaws will be exposed by then (assuming they meet there).

Gotta love a owner who isn’t scared to walk on egg shells. Especially since Wade and company are already poppin off and haven’t played a single game. This may be the best season ever. If people can live up to the hype. You already know Kobe will. Ring #6 is coming soon haters.

Everybody has a opinion yo! I mean they do have some type of chemistry by playing in the championship in the World game in 08′ and winning the gold remember? and hungry can erase all the non chemistry everybody talks about because hunger makes you want to fill your belly and the comment about the refs helping D.Wade! refs can’t score points and dirk and howard missed free throws in the series so breath easy fam because those three will win this year….

Back to back champions have no fear!!! What drives Champions is challenges. Thanks to LeBron’s gutless decision, the challenge has been layed down. I swear, I lost all respect etc for LeBron. Now I hear he was trying to recruit Kobe’s right hand man Fisher at the airport, right off the plane!! I always thought that LeBron was one of the most competitive players in the league. I’m starting to think that LeBron’s inexplicable choke in the playoffs wasn’t inexplicable at all. I think what happened was a light switch went on. He said to himself if we win the eastern Conf Championship I’ll be stuck in Cleveland for life. I’ll have no justification for leaving. So what does he do? He tanks it!! Go look at every game LeBron played last year and you won’t find any remotely close to as bad as LeBron played in that Championship. A real champion would’ve acknowledged he played below his standards and vowed to return. A fake Champion jumps ship and leaves his shipmates to fend for themselves. Well LeBron, on paper you should finally win a championship. Just so you know, championships tastes sweet. If you win, yours will have a bitter taste. Not so fast though, Kobe still has a sweet tooth

@The Nupe.. i feel the same.. regardless.. bosh will be the odd man out.. just like glen rice.. when he joined the kobe/shaq show.. hopefully.. for his sake.. he can swallow his pride for 6 years..

  • Kap

Why is no one questioning Bosh’s injury history. The guy along with Wade is pretty injury prone.

  • Durrell

I love how casual fans are saying “I’m not worried either.”

Yeah, you don’t have millions invested in the franchise…. Carry on playing 2K10.

  • ConeyIslander

The Laker’s have no need to be afraid, They are the defending world champions twice over. MIA has a super trio but they don’t have a team yet. LA can run 8 deep with like 3-4 7 footers at their disposal. MIA hasn’t won a game yet, lets hold off on them until we see them on a court with a supporting cast. I can’t wait for this season to tip off, even my Knick’s got better!

  • AT33

Buss.. watch the Heat go 82-0 :)

  • Hubcap

The just better make sure they re-sign D-Fish and don’t let him defect to the Heat. He knows them and would be the ultimate “inside man”. I do beleive that the addition of Steve Blake was a great move. He will add alot to that team.

i don’t think Miami Heat will win this year, Lakers will get better for the 2011 season and be focused in the playoffs…

  • unrel

fisher is back in LA.. so let’s assume miami and la are in the finals and all the superstars cancel eachother out.. fisher vs chalmers?.. i’ll take fish on my team any day

Instead, Dr. Jerry Buss (Jeanie too) will worry about Melo and CP3 joining Amar’e on the Knicks. BOOK IT!

I like how he says hes not giving them anything, says orl, chi, bos, are good, and they will have to beat whoever comes out the east. He doesnt have same respect for west teams? What a douche. I hope spurs get one more title

  • http://nbabogsquad.blogspot.com/ Otis

Damn theres a lot of Laker-haters out there. I think what Dr. Buss said makes sense – the Miami Heat shouldn’t be feared until they get out on the court and prove themselves. He also pointed out that there are several other up and coming teams in the East… so LBJ & Co. don’t have it in the bag just yet!

  • http://www.hufsf.com Waylonakolipse

The Lakers have 1 more title run next year. When Miami get the bench right they’ll will 5 titles from 2012-2018 then all you Kobe-tards will jump the bandwagon.
