Joe Johnson Hesitating on Hawks’ Max Offer

There still have been no indications that Johnson won’t accept the Hawks’ offer, but he’s keeping his options open while other top free agents make their decisions. Chris Sheridan reports: “Sources said Johnson was still considering whether it would be a better career move to play in New York or Chicago, and his ultimate decision would hinge upon which of the top free agents make commitments to those teams. [...] When Atlanta quickly offered Johnson approximately $119 million over six years — nearly $27 million more than any other team could offer — it was believed the four-time All-Star was no longer available. But sources said his continued hesitancy to commit to the deal was a sign that Johnson wanted to keep his options open. One source said the chances of Johnson accepting Atlanta’s offer were “slightly” better that 50-50. If Johnson chose a team other than the Hawks, he could still sign a max contract if a sign-and-trade could be worked out.”

Is he still pissed at the Hawks fans for humiliating him?

Hawks humiliating him? \i think that is the wrng way round. Anyway I’m still not convinced he is a max player more a second option rather than a leader. If they offer him the money he would be a fool not to take it ‘cos I don’t see anyone offering the same anywehre else.

This is so unbelieveable. They give 120 mill and you hesitate to accept. Either Joe is very very dumb or he might possibly care about winning…then again why would he have visited the knicks then??? (Sorry knick fans)

Sheridan is a NY-homer. He’s still over on ESPN saying that the Knicks are in the running, and have the best roster to compliment James. Apparently he is the only person on earth who believes this. Feel free to disregard his NY-centric rants. Also, if Joe signs the max then deals out to the Knicks in a S&T, could we just assume that Isaiah is back running the ship?

    Say it ain’t so Joe!

If he cares about winning he won’t be considering NY.

He can actually get a max deal someplace else besides ATL.

I don’t see the Hawks being able to be any better than a fourth seed in the East. Joe is probably waiting to see who ends up in Chicago because you know that a lineup of Noah, Bosh or Boozer, Deng, Johnson, and Rose would be a dangerous team. He wants to win. He won’t be winning any more than he has been in Atlanta.

Joe Johnson is the “Juwan Howard” of his era. Dude always plays with other elite players so he gets mistaken for being elite. His max deal is another example that the league is a “sellers market”. If you want someone to run isolation plays and hold the ball for 20 seconds of the 24-second shot clock then he’s your guy. I get the impression he would be a cancer to a championship caliber team because he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

So he leaves Phoenix for money and to be his own man… and now he’s leaving money so he can win and be someone’s number two? WTF… I’m beginning to hate Joe Johnson.

Come to NY Joe, Donnie Walsh is trying to rebuild the old Suns in NY. lol

  • Dacre Posted: Jul.3 at 11:09 pm
It’s okay Jukai….it’s a ‘greed’ thing. You go get your money first, and then on the tail end of your career you go looking for the ring. Garnett did it. Shaq did it. Amare is going to do it (after his new contract this time around…). Steve Nash is the only player that comes to mind readily that isn’t like that. Forget the MVP awards (both duly earned and a third that should have went his way..) or the wonderful charisma on screen. If the PLANET EARTH needed to nominate ONE INDIVIDUAL to represent them at some interplanetary convention, Steve Nash is your man right there.
