Knicks Make Offer to Amar’e Stoudemire

It would be a shock if Amar’e didn’t land in New York now. That’s one (almost) down, Knicks fans. The New York Times: “The Knicks have made Stoudemire a $100 million contract offer, the maximum allowed, according to a person involved in the talks, and are awaiting the chance to convince him in person. A meeting in New York could come as soon as Sunday. The person requested anonymity because he was discussing private negotiations. The chances of landing Stoudemire increased dramatically on Friday when he broke off negotiations with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns quickly reached a deal with another power forward, Hakim Warrick, effectively signaling the end of Stoudemire’s eight-year run in Phoenix.”

Dang…….they better hope they sign another one of these stars (at least Joe Johnson) or this summer will be a epic fail

  • kashdef

    @Teddy-the-Bear: Exactly

@Royal: haven’t been following things very closely, have you?

The ghost of Isiah Thomas strikes again!

  • The D Train

curious how Amare will react when the NY media starts righting about his lack of rebounding and defense. should be interesting.

  • http://Www.dimemag.com Royal

    Nah not really…..

  • c_cantrell

amares numbers will rise alil playing in the offense that made him the player he is.. knicks seem alil desperate tho, but really cant blame them.. watching jj n amare should be pretty entertaining

    $100 million? Say… WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???????????

  • c_cantrell

“$100 mil for Stoudemire yet David Lee can’t get a long term deal for HALF THAT?”

    Amare Stoudemire = 46 playoff games + 5x All-Star

    David Lee = O playoff games + 1x All-Star

  • AL29

@Mucha: #1: Stoudamire has been surrounded with exceptional talent for most of his career, including 2x MVP Steve Nash, and has played more seasons than David Lee. That’s why he’s played in more playoff games. #2: Players from crappy teams generally don’t play in all-satar games. Yet, David Lee got into the last one. If Stoudamire played in NY all these years, he would not have made it to even one All-Star game. Stoudamire isn’t worth half of what NY is going to pay him. It’s sickening. He’s no Eddy Curry or Jerome James, but still, it’s sad to see a franchise fall into this trap after finally ridding itself of years of bad contracts.

  • rav

i know you tend to overpay for other teams free agents but this is stupid, no way is he worth $20m a year, esp without a quality PG $15m max IMO

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

David Lee kinda sucks.. The Knicks should just waive him and let another unknowing team pick him up.. (wink wink)

  • Jake

Joe Johnson resigned with Atlanta did he not?

  • MikeC.

If anyone knows Amare’s ins and outs, it’s D’Antoni. No way he’d sign off on this if he thought Amare would dog it. He’s not worth $100 mil though, unless he signs a 25 year contract.

  • MikeC.

@Jake – as of now, Joe hasn’t signed. Only verbal agreements can take place during the negotiating period. Joe hasn’t made any agreements yet. The Hawks offered him the max, but he hasn’t accepted yet. The Hawks are considering pulling their offer so they can pursue another route. Most likely just a hardball tactic to try to convince Johnson to sign sooner rather than later.

  • O

Knicks ain’t gonna sign no one, man. I hope they don’t sign Amare. I’m not sold on son for dolo. He needs a dude that’s nice handling the balls (I’m not pausing at all). I’d rather keep David Lee cause at least he rebounds and his game around the basket has been improving like a MF. Plus we’d get him for half that price.

  • vtrobot

oh, f*ck. people are gonna get paid crazy this summer. $100whatever mil for JJ is CRAZY too. maybe amare’s lack of D won’t matter if he and lebron are just destroying everyone. toney douglas is the new rondo and wins a ring during his 2nd year. yes, please come to boston, david lee.

“$100 mil for Stoudemire yet David Lee can’t get a long term deal for HALF THAT?”
    Incredible isn’t it?

  • Robb

@Mucha that’s thanks to Steve Nash.

  • flash

truth is, there’s so many hatin when you’re gettin paid!!! not just in basketball but in true to life as well. don’t hate, appreciate

  • Sam J

The way things are going, the Knicks’d be better off holding out for Melo next year.

  • http://www.twitter.com/notebooknick NotebookNick

    David Lee > Amar’e Stoudemire.

  • http://www.slamonline.com BenFolds

Hmmm… What everyone seems to be missing out is the thought that the Suns picked up Hakim Warrick. Lets replace an undersized average rebounding F/C with… another. But at so much less and perhaps someone that doesn’t think so much of themselves? I give this a B- if it does indeed go ahead this way.

to any1 that think D.Lee is better than Amare is on stronger drugs than I can buy in my hood. Knicks fans please with the Isiah jokes, it makes you sound young and new to this. The Knicks haven’t won in a long time, way before Isiah. David Lee never had a winning month of basketball in his career, and I’m a big David Lee fan. Just don’t overrate what guys do in NYC, Nate scored 45 in the garden and couldn’t get 9 mins in a game 7 vs the lakers. Amare has had the team on his back for years now, he is one of the rip the rim down guys, slams hard, and has a jumpshot, he avg close to ten boards for most of the season. All we need is another max guy, a backup pg, and backup pf. I like what we’ve done, even if we don’t get Lebron. We have a bunch of 3pt shooter that can dunk. We have 3 7 footers on the team. So we are taller, and better. Come On, Real Knicks Fans know Im right. Maybe we can finaally rooot for this team

@smokez4dayz: if that second max guy is Joe Johnson, your team is in trouble. At best, they’ll be getting swept in the first round by Lebron and the Bulls.

  • oddball

this could be good…if they sign david lee too. why does he get less respect than rodney dangerfield? But those two up front could be interesting!

  • http://www.myspace.com/royaltyoftommorow Tommy

i guess you ppl missed how he gave the lakers headaches in the playoffs. amare can block shots and can rebound when his heart is in it. 100 mil is crazy but amir johnson got 34 mil and he averages 7 fouls per 48 minutes. go amare cash in foo

  • http://bleacherreport.com/users/42594-hoops4life Overtime

    He gave the Lakers headaches?

  • Severus

a’mare will regret leaving the suns!

  • Coney Islander

Hmmmmm I remembered this other great PF the Knicks had named David Lee who wakes up and combs double doubles out of his hair, didn’t he want like half of that money to stay in a place he’s been nothing but loyal too? I’m starting to think the Knick’s team management caused that damn oil spill! They can’t seem to get anything right!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Hmmmmmmm BP definitely caused that oil spill, but they’d love to blame the Knicks for it.
And I agree. It’s like the Knicks hate every one of their players that are ACTUALLY GOOD, and instead covet other team’s all-stars. Just because.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Look, I will be sad to see Lee go. But that being said, Amare is a phenomenal player in his own right and will flourish on the Knicks if he works hard and stays healthy.

  • mick

stat will not be half the player he was with steve nash

  • http://yahoo Ddub

If David Lee was MAX player someone would give him a max deal, but even the stupid management teams,i.e
orlando,R.Lewis, Dallas,Dampier, teams like that wont even bite, so quit overhyping a guy that is good and he put up good number on a bad team!

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com Don

David Lee doesn’t draw another superstar player to New York as Amare Stoudemire will, either this year or next. In that regards, it becomes more about the next signing than it does Amare.

Still, as a Knick fan, we need a frontcourt stud.
