Knicks Offering Shannon Brown $4M Per Year?

by Ryne Nelson

According to Shannon Brown’s agent, he and the Knicks have had “ongoing discussions” about bringing Brown to New York next season.

Details have been kept quiet, but today a source tells HoopsWorld that the Knicks have offered a contract valued at $4 million per season:

According to one source, New York is prepared to open up their wallet for Brown, offering a multi-year contract that would end up paying him roughly $4 million per season. The Knicks are willing to spend this money because they envision an increased role for Brown in New York playing under Mike D’Antoni. Joining Amar’e Stoudemire, Raymond Felton, Anthony Randolph, and Danilo Gallinari as part of the team’s core, Brown would be able to receive his big payday and see consistent, predictable minutes for the first time in his career.

The length of the deal has yet to be specified, but something in the two- to three-year range wouldn’t be a surprise.

The offer to Brown could mean a few things for the Knicks: 1) The Knicks are planning a sign-and-trade, 2) They’re out of the race for Rudy Fernandez, 3) They believe Brown can be dangerous with more minutes.

Knicks already have Wilson Chandler, Kelenna Azubuike and Bill Walker at the 2, but if the offer’s legit, Shannon Brown should snatch it up. Any way you cut it, $4 million per season is overpaying for the Knicks and a major win for Brown.

Take it homie, you have your two rings already. It’s all about the money now.

  • http://Yahoo.com Sergio Rodriguez

Yup money and more playing time but no more rings

go head and take it Shannon, you got 2 rings, your entire NBA career has been validated….on another note, the Lakers should sign Gerald Green…he was on their SL squad- not sure if he was brought into camp or not but seriously there is no drop off from Shannon to Gerald Green….Green is just taller, maybe even more athletic, and with a better stroke from outside…..just seems obvious to me

…real talk that picture doesn’t even look real…the man has freakin BUNGEEEEEEES!

go to NY young mr. Brown. Even with the SG’s that were already mentioned, they’ll find a way to get Shannon on the court. Walker, and especially Chandler can play small forward too.

  • Shem

People say this is overpaying him but is it really? Brown could possibly start in NY. I’m assuming their starting line would be
    Raymond Felton
    Shannon Brown/ Azubuike/ Bill Walker

Brown would definetly be the best fit at sg under D’Antoni’s system. Brown should take it + if he doesn’t start he’d get plenty of minutes backing up Felton. I can see him averaging 25-30 minutes a game. Get dat Paper Shannon!

If he stabs LA in the back like this, I’m burning his jersey and posting it on Youtube.

Thats really high for a guy that was a bench player and is really known for his dunks, not much else, not to mention he’s a bit undersized for the 2.

Brown does his best work in the shadow of another superstar, not sure if the one STAT casts is big enough thats all.

I’d hate to see Shannon go, but this is a pretty good deal. Take it man, it’s the best thing for you.

Wilson Chandler can play 2, but he’s more of a 3. Here is the Knicks depth chart.

PG – Raymond Felton / Toney Douglas
SG – Shannon Brown / Kelenna Azubuike*
SF – Danilo Gallinari / Wilson Chandler
PF – Amare Stoudemire / Anthony Randolph
    C – Ronny Turiaf / Timofey Mozgov

    * A nice offensive spark off the bench.

And Stoudemire can play the 5 with Randolph at 4. The Knicks can mix up their frontcourt…Basically a 3 man rotation of Turiaf, Randolph and Stoudemire. Don’t sleep on the Knicks this season! Donnie did good this off-season.

The Knicks can’t seem to get over the Isiah disease of paying mediocre players too much. Shannon Brown is mostly hype.

Downtown Shannon Brown is in a New York state of mind. :)

The Lakers better do something. Shannon brings great D, athleticism and system know-how to L.A. It would not be very wise to let him go, on the Lakers’ part.

The knickerbokers are gonna surprise a lot of people this upcoming season. They may not make the playoffs but they will be the most exciting/competitive non-playoff team this year if the sign “don’t let shannon dunk” brown.

  • http://twitter.com/The_Knicks The_Knicks

Take the money and run for D’antoni!

  • http://gmail dirty frank

    cosign Gerard.

  • http://Slamonline.com Boogiedown

If it were anyother team or coach I’d say dumb move, (for both sides) but Shannon would fit right in on that squad. His shot selection needs to improve though.

I think Shannon Brown will actually get more shine playing in NY…he’s got his rings. He better chase that paper while it’s being thrown at him…

  • http://lastknickstanding.blogspot.com Bryan

Stupid. We have enough f*cking 2 guards, swingmen and combo guards.

  • BG

Him and Wes Chandler could like on the same team. Wilson Chandler for offense and Shannon for D. Chandler can bring the ball up in a D’Auntoni offense (Joe Johnson). Just spot Shannon up in the corner before the season starts and make him into a 40%+ 3ball shooter and their #1 defender. Simple.

  • T-Money

Too much money to pass up

  • LD

He didn’t even make that dunk in the pciture. Just saying.

  • mIG

allen iverson to the knicks COME ON

  • underdog

Bill Walker > Shannon Brown. Anyway, Brown should take this opportunity.

  • http://slamonline.com Dave.

Brown signs with the Knicks, D’Antoni raves about him, get scores 21 points in 20 minutes in his first game, then gets put on the bench by the tenth game, becomes 11th man by the All-Star break, D’Antoni mysteriously won’t talk about why he’s not being played, will be paid to sit on the end of the bench for no apparent reason until 2014, when he goes and plays in Israel for three years.

  • Rikson

4 mil…. Really? Whats up with ny?!

  • Ngoie

Euh last time i checked: Wes Chandler and Air Walker were listed as SF. That bein said, i would love to see Shannon gettin’ more burn in D’Antoni system. He showed he can produce with limited minutes already.
    Take the $, kid!

  • http://www.nba.com Vinod

I don’t think he’s worth it. All he is is a vicious dunker. I hope NY would reconsider and save the money for another top level free agent.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Wilson Chandler, Kelenna Azubuike and Bill Walker already sound like enough IMO…

  • ConeyIslander

I’d welcome you to my squad fam!

  • Teeceezy

As a Lakers fan I’d hate to see Shannon go. He brings an energy to the court which isn’t often matched and has been of great value to the Lakers. That said I think he would fit well in NY under D’Antoni and at 4 per year it’s hard to see him staying in Cali since he has 2 rings. As for the hate about he can only dunk this is a guy who has had to live in the shadow of Kobe Bryant. I think with development (he’s only 24), the confidence of more consistent minutes and a system that may suit him better Shannon would thrive with the Knicks. At best they would be one hell of an entertaining team. Still hope Mitch can work something out to keep him though. We can always dump Sasha if we really need to.

“The offer to Brown could mean a few things for the Knicks: 1) The Knicks are planning a sign-and-trade”

Ok, so who would be involved in the trade?

Give L.A. Turiaf back? Or Azubuike?

  • ClydeSays

“there is no drop off from Shannon to Gerald Green”

Is there any NBA player who wants his name in the same sentence as Gerald Green?
