Knicks Sign Foreign Big

We can’t tell you too much about this guy, except that draftexpress thinks highly of him, and that he’s now reportedly a Knick: “Russian center Timofey Mozgov will sign a three year, 9.7 million dollar contract with the New York Knicks. Knicks will pay Khimki 500k USD.”

Ooh, a foreign player experiment. Those are always fun. Watch out, Knicks. That uber Russian down there in NJ might try and steal him away.

I really thought Frederic Weis was finally coming to the league.

As someone who has seen Timo play for Khimki in the Eurocup (’09) and in the Euroleague this year, i can say he’s raw offensively but a great shotblocker and aggressive on the boards. Khimki hardly ran plays for him but he was the backbone of the Khimki team that nearly won the Eurocup against Rytas last year. Huge, athletic and good hops. If he gets serious about developing offensive moves, look out.

I’m so excited. I just can’t hide it. I about to lose control, and I think I like it.

    Damn, thought it was Weiss.

Was I the only one who noticed the Knicks atarted looking like a real team last year when they acquired Barron? Even if it was only seven games, he proved his point (to those who know…). I think it was 17 boards against the Celts? C’mon, I think he would have taken the 9M. I sure hope this Russian kid brings it cuz we’re passing up on decent big man w/NBA experience.

Co-sign muzeman. Barron should be the starting center. I have no clue why the Knicks have a f*cking impulse to replace their only good players. SMH.

    says he weighs zero pounds….
    does this guy even exist?!

  • WangChung Posted: Jul.11 at 6:27 pm
@LDR4: The question is why isn’t this Timo kid on the Russian’s team? With a Russian owner and the team moving to Brooklyn, you couldn’t have scripted a better situation for a talented young Russkie big.
@Darksaber: Never read a thing on this kid, so I’m completely in the dark about him. When you say “Huge, athletic and good hops”, are we talking Kirilenko Jr. or a white D. Howard?

@Mitch – *in hysterics* “and at centre, weighing zero pounds from Russia…Amar’es Shadow!?!?!”…
    O_o

This guy could be really good. He has size, strength and athleticism which is pretty rare in Euro-bigs. He has a decent hook and dropstep move and with work and reps will only improve his offense. He runs really well and I’m already looking forward to seeing him finish the break like Sabonis used to. His strength will initially be on the defensive end, although I’m sure he’ll be foul-prone until he figures the league out. I reckon he’s a steal.

I can’t wait to see who’s better, Mozgov or Splitter. My money is on Splitter. SAS’ front office is excellent at judging foreign international talent, just look at Parker, Ginobili, and Scola. 3 for 3.
