Lakers After Mike Miller?

According to Fox Sports, L.A. is dangling a $30 million (5-year) deal in front of Miller: “Mike Miller has already met with the Lakers, Knicks and Heat out in L.A. Lakers offered 5 years, $30 million.”

If Amir Johnson is getting 5/$34, Miller’s definitely worth 5/$30. He’s a smart player with a good stroke. Man…with Ebanks and Caracter as steals, and Miller coming in, the Lakers somehow get better.

  • kh

    I like this move.

  • The D Train

Miller seems like a great pickup for any of those teams, although pairing him with Kobe or Wade would be much better than pairing him with Galinari. He might turn into Joe Johnson-lite, however, playing in D’antoni’s system. Frankly, as a Laker-hater I would be terrified of him setting up on the perimeter in the closing minutes of next years Finals along with Fisher while Kobe goes one-on-one and Pau and Bynum crash the boards. The 2 FA’s I do NOT want to see in Lakers uni’s next year are Miller and Steve Blake. On Blake, as a Portlander let me tell you that he would be a perfect fit in LA. And that scares the hell out of me.

If I was Mike Miller I would take it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

    I like it, but I am not a fan of Mike’s D.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Although Mike Miller seems like Luke Walton except 10 times better.

  • Kap

He may wait to see who signs with Miami if so the Lakers will not have the contract on the table that long.

  • http://www.kaycephotography.com/ Kevin

+1 for the Mike Miller is like Luke Walton, only 1000 times better..

  • The D Train

You are spot-on, James, but rotating him and Artest for offense-defense would be pretty nice for the Lake Show. Having Miller, who is a pretty nice passer, too, spotting up on the wings is a nice improvement over Sasha and the aforementioned Walton.

Steve Blake might be the a great fit for hollywood.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    ^ cancel “the”

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

I don’t think they have cap room to sign anyone.

  • Kap

@J… They have the Mid level Exception to spend.

  • Lazarus

this is a good signing for lakers because miller is a very good player but maybe money better used on blake who will be able to bring exactly what fish does except better.

  • kobesBESTfriend

He’s basically Adam Morrisson who gets more touches…just keep Adam and save the $…he deserves 3 rings!!!

  • Kap

It was reported that in the exit interview Vujacic was informed he would play alot of PG next year. So the Lakers feel as if getting a scorer off the bench is more important.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

^ damn. I forgot the mle..

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

wrong on my part to forget the mle.. anyway i think PG is more of a priority right now.

  • millertime

@ kobesBESTfriend man i ahve no idea how you can compare MM to Adam (Charles Manson) Morrison. Mike Miller altough primarily a spot up for 3 guy can actually make it on the NBA hardwood…Morrison should just keep groomin his mustache and think about what casino in Vegas wants to take a risk on his impersonation career (see above reference to Mr. Manson).

  • Hurricane

I think the Lakers could get the same production out of Matt Barnes for cheaper, & they should try to sign Steve Blake for what Farmar was making, & try to sign T-Mac & Raja Bell to the vets minimum, & WE NEED A GOOD BENCH PF/C

  • T-Money

Nice move. For some reason though, Mike Miller is very reluctant to shoot even though he shoots like 50% from deep. It’s mind boggling

  • http://Twitter.com/pdxgaybball Dma

Mike miller is a perfect fit for the triangle. 6’8 can shoot, smart, and bring the ball up.

  • C-Lo-The-Great

mle is a joke how can teams over the cap have a mle if teams under it cant get it i think every team should have it or none should but the rich get richer

  • http://slamonline.com JL

@hurricane-barnes is a great player, and worth less, but his 3pt shot and passing is way below that of miller’s. he does play better defense though. however the key is that miller has the better basketball IQ (and not just because he’s white), and will fit into the triangle alot better. the lakers have enough guys to clean up his defensive deficiencies, but his shooting will really give them a boost. kobe won’t have to pass to ron anymore to spot up for 3. lakers winning margin increases by 12 points probably with him.. lol. he shoots 50% while being defended. on the lakers he will be wide open! and he’s one of the oddball players who might actually take less money to go to a team that he likes and has a chance to win.

After Barnes tried to get tough with him this year, I doubt Kobe would want him on his team.

  • http://freeones.com jbn74sb

We need a defensive PG more than anything else and some Bynum insurance up front, but this is a good move. JJ Reddick would be a better move.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

Mike Miller needs to take this deal and become part of a winner, then in 5 years he would be worth even more. I would rather have Mike Miller coming of the bench with Odom, than Brown coming of the bench with Odom. Mike can play SG for lakers with Sasha at point and Odom at SF. Mike would be a nice edition to the lakers. When Ron is stinking it up with shooting, replace with Mike, so when they double team Kobe, a good shooter will get good looks. THIS IS WIN WIN FOR THE LAKERS!!!

  • John Starks

Not a fan of his D but this would be ideal for the Lakers. They desperately need a pure shooter off the bench

  • JP

How do the Lakers have the MLE when they used it to sign RON RON

  • Overtime

@Dfrance, Ron Ron tried same thing with him in 09, and yet here we are

  • Kap

@JP…teams get a MLE every year.

  • gpaul

It all sounds good and dandy, but with this free agent market, some stupid gm is going to swoop in and give mike miller like 60 mil. It’s crazy what these teams are paying for these guys. I mean Amir Johnson 34 mil? I might go try out so I can get a mil, lol.

  • http://djfklfl.com Jukai

Could someone explain to me how the Lakers have this money?!?!?!

  • JP

@Kap .. Crazy, seems like the lakers payroll is hovering around 85mil anyway how is it even possible to sign anyone? And whats with RJ opting out of his contract, terrible move!

  • Jose

Sasha running the 1? eh maybe. i mean w/ farmar leaving and i thought brown opt’d out to. i would loathe this if it were to happen only cuz it’s a good idea

  • Kap

I hear the lakers are trying hard to bring Fisher and Brown back according to a different website.

  • gpaul

Jukai as kap said earlier teams get a mid-level exception every year, it’s up to that team if they want to use it,. Yes the lakers are over the luxury tax but you have to remember six players came off the books this off season. And now it’s up to the lakers if they want to continue to spend while in the luxury tax.

  • Kap

Don’t forget the fact that Mike Miller and Pau Gasol are pretty good friends going bk to the Memphis days.

  • gpaul

I just got a text saying the lakers are after Ray Allen, gtfoh, lol.

  • Kap

The lakers did make over $20 million in profit this yr. The money they do go over is almost made up because of the profit.

  • Kap

@gpaul…I thnk they meant Tony Allen

  • unrel

the lakers have the money.. because the MLE is an exception given to teams that are over the cap.. it’s the same ammount as the average salary.. and can be used on one player.. or broken up for multiple players.. that’s from what i understand.. it not only allows teams the chance to improve.. but also keeps players employed..

  • gpaul

Good call kap it only said Allen of course I would automatically think the better of the two. Lol

  • topo

kupchak is a genius, i like farmar a L.A. native and ucla alum, but mike miller fits better, steve blake as well, this can only make them better

  • http://4Aitkenroad,Hamilton,ScotlandML37YA Hambone

dont be surprised if phil jax hangs around to get players signed up then bails half way through the season and stays on as a mentor type figure

  • ccantrell

miller would be an excellent fit in LA.. he has a near perfect stroke, good size, very good basketball IQ.. he is exactly what kind of player kobe needs as he drives to the basket and draws more defenders.. would be a perfect perfect in the triangle

  • Purple & Gold

    @ Hambone

    Your smoking CRACK !

Phil has never done this before in Chicago or LA. You must have Phil mistaken for that drunken coach Rudy T who did that back in the 04-05 season.

  • LakeShowBaby

Mike Miller would be an awesome pick up. Can play the 2-3 and is an offensive threat. The guy makes his 3′s. This is what the Lakeshow needs.

  • rainman10

forget Mike Miller, the Lakers need Brad Miller.

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

The Lakers are finally addressing their bench problems. It’s actually shocking that they won a title with such a terrible bench. Yes, I know, they have Kobe. But this bench has sucked for a long time. I dont include Odom with the group of degenerates.

Bad news for you kids: as per joe canzano from 95.5FM in pork-land. “Steve Blake has agreed to a four-year deal with the Lakers, according to a report from John Canzanao.

According to FanHouse, the deal is worth $16 million over four seasons.

BOO YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3-PEAT TRAIN STARTS NOW

  • deano

YESSSSS we sooo desperately need a reliable 3 point threat. We needed another Vladi Radmon

  • http://www.shawnkemp.com JACO

Well now it looks like the lakers got steve blake tonight. An improvement over farmar def. First to say it here.

  • Jacob (from Australia)

Woo, another swingman to take ill-advised threes! Kobe will be happy ;)

  • http://www.slamonline.com Klav

Blake x Miller x Fish are the only FA signings LA needs. the rest is golden.
