LeBron’s Buying a Castle Fit For King

Fanhouse with the report: “Life & Style is reporting that LeBron James, who recently signed a six-year, $110 million deal with the Miami Heat, has started the paperwork to buy a $49.5 million mansion in the most expensive portion of Coral Gables, Fla. The home was once owned by Pat Riley, and was taken off the market shortly after ‘The Decision.’ The home is the most expensive in Coral Gables, according to Life & Style, and features:* eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms; * 880 feet of waterfront; * a master suite with a full gym; * a private guest suite with its own tennis court and courtyard on an acre of land. * a 150-foot dock. Taxes are about $1 million per year, with an additional $150,000 price tag for utilities. South Florida auto magnate Alan Potamkin owns the home, and he has listed the home for $49.5 million.”

this is possibly the dumbest thing I’ve heard all year….buy a $50 million house???? in this housing market???? thats absolutely ridiculous….you can buy a large neighborhood of mansions with 50 mil…thats absolutely ludicrous….and I thought dude had shrewd businessmen backing him…..smh

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

hey man let me detract that last comment, the man has the money let him do his thing. more power to him……better be the best house in America thats all I know

  • Jose

I say they have the Heat’s 8 rotation players and Coach Spo live in their and pull off a ‘real world’ spoof….I’d Get at That.lol

  • Fitzy

@ tarzan cooper, yeah must f*ckin suck residing in the highest standard of living in the world in vancouver. don’t think that america’s reign at the top will last forever either, and don’t even try to say Canada isn’t “real” multicultural.

  • Ronald

As long as he’s able to sell it later for a similar price I don’t see what’s the harm in dropping what he can afford to buy the house. Most people buy houses that they can’t afford anyway.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

I actually wouldn’t mind to have a house in Canada, its beautiful out there in the less populated areas. Nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday America, in my opinion.

  • jpbl1976

After taxes, most of Lebron’s salary from the Heat will go towards paying for this property. He’ll have to live off what he’ll earn in endorsement deals.

  • Ron Ron Hustle

Isnt coral gables where the U of M is

  • floe

the real question is why the hell is he paying 49 million in this economy? i would put an offer of one third of that and walk away.

seriously, i think we’ve all overestimated lebron’s intelligence over the years. he’s just another rags to riches story.. nothing more nothing less.

  • JoeMaMa

Let’s stop the Canada vs. America business and focus on the topic at hand, that no one has yet brought up: the majestic sight of a 150 foot dock. Man, that smooth wooden structure, the well placed bolts, the firm supports that keep it in place. Yeah…that’s like 15 mil right there. Docks. Yeah.

  • jalepinosauce

Why does he need such a big house ? hmm . Because he can afford it & u cant. Because he wanted to . If fact you forgot one little rule of a King. What the King wants he gets. Yall just jealous coz he gonna pay more in taxes next year than you will ever earn in your whole lifetime. hehe :-)

  • jalepinosauce

+ if i had another go i would pick Canada over the states as there seems to be more fresh air + ‘NORMAL’ people. No contest really

  • hobbes

“U need to spend money to make money.”-Lebronnnn

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

Teddy, im very well aware of your points on canada. And fighting your way out of a bad spot is def something to brag about, cuz it wasnt easy and could have turned out alot worse. How am I acting like nothing happened? …..From the cradle to the grave, life aint never been easy, livin in the ghetto…………….. Anyways, im thnkn of gettn dual citizenship. Do I have to live there for 5 years?

  • Justin

How the hell did the topic of this article change to which country is better to live in? Tarzan might just be the most ignorant of all the posters so far though. To say Canada isn’t multicultural is ridiculous. The stereotypes that the US puts on us is pretty funny and Teddy, you’re right on all those things except one. We are so sipping on Molson Canadian. lol

  • KB

why do yall care how he spend his money or where its at. let him live his life the wayhewants and stop hatin

  • JoeMaMa

And the dock probably has a smooth finish, and smells of enchanted sandalwood. Man, I wish I had a dock like that right now. I’d moor so many boats to it. And I’d put lanterns around it and hold wine mixers there on the weekends. That there’s a man’s dock.

  • Orlando Green

@BETCATS You’ve obvisouly never came to montreal.. Canada is awesome, for so many reason, but if one can convince you, the girls.. are skinny! You go to the states and you see one sexy girl per like 100, here it’s 75 per 100.

  • Justin

Orlando is right. You have a continental breakfast here, you get fruits, pastries, yogurts etc. In hotels in the States the continental is doughnuts, cookies, and other pastries. When I was in Orlando there were three types of people: Obese people, Spanish speaking people, and obese Spanish speaking people. Now, as for Lebron spends his money…like KB said, why do we care? I bet you people would do the same thing if you had his kind of money

  • JoeMaMa

And that dock was probably built with superior craftsmanship and handled with care. That dock is going nowhere. LeBron knows docks, friends. A tip o’ the cap to Cap’n James.

  • rayray

@JoeMaMa – I’d hold the Catalina wine mixer on that dock – POW

  • JoeMaMa

LeBron’s gonna throw a motherf*cking Catalian wine mixer on that majestic dock, replete with boats and hoes. Rayray – word.

  • giogolo

I gotta admit now. Lebron wil bel one broke ass m0+H3rfa(kah when he retires. This guy deesn’t have an ounce of managerial and financial literacy or business sense unless this news is all just print and the real story is half or almost all of it(estate) was given or lent for free as long as he stays with MAIMI. This sounds to cliche jeesh. But I’m willing to bet on this for a dollar.

  • truhero

^ exactly. while youre betting for a dollar he’s buying a house for $50 mil. He definitely doesn’t know how to mangae his money like you must. He makes so much more money from endorsements, his new contract is his lowest form of income (Coke, State Farm, McDonalds, NIKE). Let him buy what he wants, the money isn’t stopping anytime soon.

  • http://dez@nba.com dez

lol at catalian wine mixer. this is the most ig’nint thread i’ve ever seen on this site. why is everyone so emotionally invested in what Lebron buys? if your gfs chatted your ear off about what Paris Hilton just bought, you’d tell her to stfu and get a life. also, who cares about a usa vs canada arguement? nobodys going to be convinced anyways.

  • http://www.alllooksame.com Tarzan Cooper

Dez, im convincd, I want dual citizenship, how do I get it? And whats with the dock joemama?

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

What a waste of money, hopefully Lebron’s drop out management won’t let him fall like MC Hammer, trying to help everyone out, but Lebron did keep 3.5 millon of the 6 million money for the boy and girls club. Lebron can live off the interest of that money and lets see if Lebrons new care for boys and girls club translate to helping out some under priviliage kids in Miami and other communities in Florida. Also during the decision was I the only one realizing Lebron was saying thanks for helping with the priviliage children when he was giving check to make himself look good. BOOK IT!!!

  • truthteller

Good for LeBron. I wish him all the best. It’s his money and he can spend it anyway he wants. People really shouldn’t give him flack for that. Get a life people!

  • Ngoie

Bron Bron needs a GPS to find the backdoor of his crib!
And i bet MTV cribs will take 30 min only to just check out his front hall. LOL

Tarzan… I don’t even need to explain how many ways you’re wrong. You just proved to me how sad of a person you are with your swearing and calling me a “fairy”.

Try not to waste anyone’s time anymore. You’re just embarrassing yourself.

  • Conoro

    * and other Americans

  • http://www.clownpenis.com Tarzan Cooper

Gee whiz beav, I sweared, I bet father sure will be upset. Im not sad, I feel great. You, however, seem to be butthurt. How am I wasting anyones time? If u think reading my comments is a waste of ur time, then dont, go read harry potter. And yes, ppl who read mostly fiction are fairies. Why waste ur time with crap when there is so much real stuff to learn about. Ex: shakespeare is crap, its just soap operas, whats so good about it? Othello, romeo, all of shakespeare is just crappy soap opera.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

To all the Canadians i have enraged, i was joking. I actually do want to one day visit your country and impregnate your maidens. I hope this suffices and you will all stop referencing my post as ‘typical american ignorance’.

  • http://stoudemire32_2@hotmail.com Midnight Hustle

Okay, I’m Canadian and have been to the states plenty of times for tourneys, road trips and what not. Both countries are too different to compare and both amazing in their own ways. I thought this was about Lebron buying a mansion anyways. I wonder if he’ll turn one of those bedrooms into a trophy room where he can put all his MVP’s and awards and rings… oh wait

  • Emmett

“shakespeare is crap, it’s just soap operas”…hmm, the greatest playwright in the history of the English language is crap? And even worse, it’s just soap operas? Well, even if they were just soap operas, they’re better soap operas than the ones watched by millions of Americans every weekday afternoon.

  • kh

I can only imagine how happy the real estate agent and the person who sold the house are. They were probably thinking…”who the hell is going to buy a 50 million dollar home?”…

  • Fred Derf

    lebron blows boat people

  • Riley

CONSPIRACY. An offer was made off the record to get Lebron in Miami.

  • LB

    How Mike Tysonesque..

  • Harlem_World

For all the Canadians reading this, which part of Canada is the best – if you’re looking for a balance of city life, clean air/environment, good racial mix, good houses for reasonable money etc…

    Serious question.

  • giogolo

    @truhero
I’d would very much like to have a word with you about this topic 20 years from now. That’s the amount of time Lebron will lose a substantial amount of his hard-eraned money from your so called endorsements. I may not be a millioniare in dollars but please do know that financial literarcy is NEVER about the amount of money you have.otherwise there won’t be a Tyson,Pippen,Holyfield,Football players who go broke after they earn $400 million. It’s how you make it grow with respect to it’s value. My dollar that I bet now won’t be the same 20 years from now. Pls. do read a lot on that,I recommend. It having a degree either doesn’t make you business-smart.Some people are just born with it. Like how athletes are.

  • giogolo

^ I never give out destructive criticisms. It will tell a lot about myself. = )

  • unrel

this is supposedly not true.. that the owner of the house took it off the market 3 months ago.. and that riles never lived it in.. but lived in the neighborhood.. so everyone’s comments are for nothing.. assuming it’s true that it’s untrue..

  • Conoro

    @Harlem_World

Ottawa or Vancouver. Ottawa sounds more like what you’re asking for, but Vancouver is absolutely amazing.

  • buccetz714

    that is perfect

    sincerely delonte west

  • http://www.slamonline.com Pardeep

Vancouver is arguably a top 3 city in North America we have the most diverse country in the world so anyone who thinks that aint true is an idiot.
