MJ On Miami Three

Michael Jordan weighs in, and he’s not a fan.

by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni

Playing in the American Century Championship golf tournament over the weekend, MJ was asked about what he thought of all the free agent movement this summer, and specifically, LeBron’s decision to join up with D-Wade and Chris Bosh in South Beach.

While Jordan understands that today’s game — and the mentality of the players — differs greatly from when he was hooping, Mike still let it be known that he was far too competitive to have even thought about playing alongside guys who were considered to be in his class at any point; people like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

According to MJ, the idea was to beat those guys, not team up with them to chase rings:

“There’s no way, with hindsight, I would’ve ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, ‘Hey, look, let’s get together and play on one team,” Jordan said.

“Things are different. I can’t say that’s a bad thing. It’s an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys.”

NBA fans (and sports fans, in general) rarely agree on things, but we can reasonably state the following: with but a handful of true Heat fans being the exception, nearly everyone hates this new-look Miami Heat team.

So, they’ve got that going for them.

@Eboy, u know u not the only heat fan who there from the jump. I was with them thru 15 wins, when for some reason seeing the Heat beat the friggin’ Kings was some kind of achievement and made me proud. I stayed with them even when there was no way they could beat Boston after being down 0-3, and I stuck with them with or without Wade in the game. As far as I’m concerned, all of this is redemption for going thru that horrible 07-08 season……….

THANK YOU MJ, ABOUT TIME SOMEONE STATED LEBRON DOESN”T HAVE THE MENTAL TOUGHNESS TO HANDLE BEING THE MAN. This is the real question. how will Wade and Lebron respond to MJ. Will they stay quiet, or try to act bad. Wade and Lebron worship the ground MJ played on. Now MJ is killing Lebron in media and making it worst for him and Wade is on team Jordan. Bosh doesn’t matter and the funny thing is HE WILL NEVER MATTER. MJ already stated on a youtube clip that Kobe is better than Lebron. Now MJ is finally learning to say how he feels. I am proud of MJ, now and will let his Republicans buy tennis shoes comment wash away. MJ called out LeQuitta. LOL!!!!!

Hey Jon….well first of all, welcome here into the den of the lions filled with basketball stupidity, but when I reference myself as a Heat fan from the jump, I means since their first season in 1989. That’s when I first followed them when they were a laughing stock. I’ve been one of two Heat fans that comment on the SLAM site since this place first got a web address about 10 years ago, so that’s where my words come from. I’m not better than any other Heat fan, just ready to battle for the boys if need be. I’m also their worst critic (you should have read my words when they won 15 games 3 seasons ago) so I know what both sides of the coin are. Heat fans have NEVER had this type of team to be ready to cheer for. So anyone that questions my (or any Heat fans)giddiness about the future either has never been a fan of a winner or lives like a perpetual loser.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

One of the stupid lions just came in for their afternoon feeding.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

“or lives like a perpetual loser.” Funny I wrote that and then The Seed showed up. Oh, the irony.

  • truthteller

Eboy, you are just as annoying as you claim we Lakers fans are! So, how does it feel to be hated?

  • Q

Everyone, just ignore Eboy. He posts a comment like every 5 or 6 posts. He is some type of insecure, control freak. People like that who have to have it viewed “their” way will never listen to reason. He talks about hate, yet his hate for Kobe or whomever is “opposite” of his precious LeBron knows no bounds. Eboy is blog megalomaniac, and too many feed his ego. Just because one knows some stats and have a basic knowledge of the game doesn’t me one knows what they are talking about. He brings up Kobe every chance he gets.

Kobe could score 50, shoot 18-31, and Eboy will say something. He acts like Kobe’s shooting struggles in game 7 was his only performance against Boston. They won the championship.
I love me some Michael Jordan, but I’ve seen many a final Game 6 were Michael finished with 2 assists and 2 rebounds or something. Kobe pulled down 15 rebounds against the BEST defensive team in the league. That is a MAN, son. Hell, Carmelo Anthony gave it to LBJ this year.

Kobe’s leadership helped develop Pau Gasol, Artest, and Fisher and the crew to the point where they were able to carry him. I guess Eboy forgot Kobe’s game winner at Boston this year, or his 7 game winners this season alone. This Eboy guy is a joke, and I don’t know why so many on this board tolerate him.

This is how you hold someone like him accountable. Not that it will make a difference to him. His beloved Jordan just let it be known how we viewed it, even though he (Jordan) was diplomatic. When the Heat when the championship at some point, it will cheapen sports for us all. And this is tolerated because of shallow posers like Eboy.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

@Eboy, dude, I wasn’t even born in ’89, otherwise the Heat would be me. And I didn’t watch, play, or know a thing about basketball until 3 or 4 years ago. But once I got into it, D-Wade was my guy, the Heat were my team. Btw, i did read some of your stuff on the heat of 07-08……

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Jon, it’s all good, I got your back if anyone messes with you if you post your opinions!!!!!

  • Hurricane

Yeah that’s why Eboy doesn’t respond to me, cause he got BURNED & is a B#@$H, COMMENTING ON THIS SITE FOR 10 YEARS?, WHAT A LOSER, YOU SHOULD AT LEAST GIVE THIS LOSER A JOB SLAM

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

truthteller, here’s the rub bro, there’s like 100 of you Laker-lovin’ characters on here, I’m just me. My girl Cheryl is a hit and run commenter, so it’s me (and now my boy Jon W) against the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, at least the SLAM commenting world.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

I would also like to add one more thing. Kobe is still a better player than D-Wade, LeBron, and close to Michael. And I also think Pau is WAY, WAY better than Bosh. No offense CB1……
But despite all that the Heat are my faves cuz of the way Dwyane carries himself, because of the way this team fought through the bad years, the doubters, etc.
I have often tried to see what’s better about LeBron (over Kobe) but I can’t find anything. Kobe IS a good passer, just not an interested passer. Kobe IS a good rebounder, he proved that in this year’s finals. Plus Kobe’s footwork is better, his ball-handling is better, and I would say he is still a better defender (except for the Rondo goof-ups :) . Plus, as we all know Kobe is a far better shooter (sorry Bron). I would like to see the Heat beat the Lakers, but at this point, I would say unlikely…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

sorry Eboy, if the lake show (kobe thing) disappoints lol…….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Hurricane, I will look at your asinine comment and respond to it. Give me a minute, dipsh*t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Jon Wallenberger is about to lose me as a fan!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

it’s like a freakin war!! The Lexington and MJ Comments year 1776

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

“Lakers are the team to beat & Eboy needs a LIFE” Is this supposed to be the thing I was afraid to answer to, Hurricane? Wow, buddy, I’m not even sure where to begin.

  • O

My man Ron Artest put LBJ on blast. Can’t handle the heat of NYC, then go to Miami…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

The difference between DW3 and KB24 is that #3 don’t do any of that one-on-one stuff, and he is a REAL team player, that’s something I will never say about Kob’
THAT’S why DW3 is my man..

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    EBOY
Your new boy Jon W. sounds like an undercover Kobe and Lakers fan. I am a Lakers fan and I am not taking Gasol over Bosh in the Lakers triangle offense. LOL!!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jon W.

    WTF??? A hacker….

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

as an oakland fan, i can’t wait till the next warriors vs. heat game. can you imagine what the over/under is gonna be? you’re gonna see fastbreaking basketball and offensive craftiness at its finest

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

and what jordan said was very fair and truthful. he sounds more indifferent than anything

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Honestly, I have no complaints basketball-wise. Miami will be fun to watch for some, fun to root against for everyone else. How Lebron handled this entire thing was beyond terrible, and coupled with his playoff flameout, his “legacy” is already gone. How do you become a “global icon” as the world’s biggest sidekick?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Kieran

Who are all these people who hate Miami apart from scared Lakers fans?

Seriously Mutoni you really need to work on being impartial. I cant really take anything you say seriously as you always have your own agenda.
Im a Sixers fan but as a fan of basketball the best player in the NBA teaming up with probably the most exciting player in Wade is pretty exciting.

  • javy

When talking about BBall and championships and who is better, I think we have a good “Standard”: Mr. Airness the greatest.
So if he is not a fan, I am not a fan…..As simple as that.
You can read all you want, you can play (As I do) all you want, you can be a trainer for all I care.
When it comes to basketball,he is the supreme court of justice.
Remember only when it comes to basketball so don’t get into any of the personnal stuff you guys like to do!!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    Bosh>Gasol…GTFOH

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I thought Seed was cool until the comment about Bosh being better than Gasol. I just hope those knees of Wade and Bosh hold up EBOY…

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Wow, Eboy…as a person who routinely goes back-and-forth w/commenters, I must say that I’m impressed at both your willingness to carry on multiple debates, but most of all, your flippancy is incredibly impressive I must say. I hereby pass the battling in a comment section torch to you because if I’ve learned one thing, it’s that you can’t win a comment section. No matter what you say. Carry on my friend…

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I don’t think people truly “hate” this Miami team. Everyone knew Bosh was shopping himself as a sidekick since the regular season ended; Wade comes off as a savvy leader and mastermind. Neither man is truly worthy of “hate”. The bulk of this dislike stems from Lebron, something that “The Decision” greatly exacerbated, I think.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I dislike Bosh bc of how overrated he has become only bc he is part of the 2010 free agents. He’s not a franchise player and he is not a superstar. He is just a tall ass SF.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Bryan, it’s kind of hard to stay serious in this discussions. I’m not sure if that’s ever possible when Lebron’s name is in an argument. Also, it just hit me that it IS summer and the kids are out and on the internets so……….

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    *this=these *is it

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Eboy, this is true. Like I’ve told you before, since I respect you based on our past exchanges, then I respect the fact that you have to protect your guy (LBJ). I don’t agree with it (his move or defending him), but I think it’s great for you guys down there, so enjoy it. While it lasts anyway. Hopefully your 3 ring prediction comes true.

  • CSP8

I’m not going to make any ring predictions but don’t be surprised if they take their anger out on the court against the Bobcats lol

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I definitely don’t hate this Miami team, and that so many people hate them only makes me hope that they win.

  • truthteller

    @Eboy,
So are you admiting that you were just hatin’ on Kobe and the lakers all this time ’cause “your team” sucked or are you just hopping on the bandwagon of a team, the only team that has a solid chance (and it’s still a longshot)at dethroning the lakers?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Honestly, screw this whole “I wanted to beat them” BS. I mean, that’s a great way of looking at it, but are you telling me Magic Johnson and Kareem AJ weren’t in the same league as each other? Why don’t I hear Magic saying “I wanted to beat Kareem.”
Seriously, I get it: You DON’T join with your rival, usually. But Wade/Bron/Bosh have never been rivals… You don’t see LeBron joining Dwight Howard in Orlando, nor do you see Wade joining Dallas.
Sheeit, Earl Monroe (Clyde Frazier’s rival) joined the Knicks and they won a CHAMPIONSHIP in ’73!

  • http://slamonline.com Spaceship Jay

Eboy; I would hope to think that most of the sports world isn’t necessarily mad at the Heat, but more @ Lebron and his poor showing of willingness to compete… Not to mention the destruction of is legacy and all that viewed him as “The Man”. Its hilarious that LBJ destroyed the Kobe/LBJ argument instantly

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

I like how most Lakers fans who h@te this Big 3 completely ignore the Showtime Lakers’ Big 3, or the Shaq/Kobe duo. OR OR the stacking of FOUR Hall of Famers, Kobe/Shaq/Payton/Malone, which actually LOST to the Pistons. But hey, those weren’t stacking, right? They weren’t chasing rings, they didn’t care about winning.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Bryan….I’ll be honest, I don’t know if they can win more than one, but they will win one. truthteller, if you think I’m bandwagoning the Heat, then there’s no reason to discuss anything further.

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

As a Lakers fan, I’d just like to say that I was more afraid of the Denver Nuggets last year than I am of the Heat this year. That being said, I think it will be awesome if the Heat can some how find a way to beat a team like the Magic or the Celtics that actually have NBA players on their bench so that we can really see the NBA Finals David Stern so desperately wants.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Another stupid lion must have got hungry.

  • CSP8

Oh and Shaq is a not a winner either because he couldnt do it by himself. A true leader would’ve stayed in Orlando and waited another 10 years for help…. lol gtfoh

  • http://slamonline.com Spaceship Jay

@ Brad; the Heat don’t need a bench.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

    KAP
I would take Bosh in the Lakers offense over Gasol, see you saying Bosh is overrated, Bosh is being overrated now, because he plays with Kobe and he has two rings now. Bosh can shoot better, rebounding is about the same, Bosh can finish at rim better, runs the floor better, can take over games better. Gasol is better defensivelly and has a better post game. Bosh is better in the Lakers triangle offense. BOOK IT!!

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

    @ Spaceship Jay…don’t be stupid

  • http://slamonline.com Brad Long

Spaceship Jay:I know, because they don’t have any players to come off of it. But the sideline would look weird if Erik Spoelstra was sitting with the fans.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

^^^Gasol is being overrated now in comment.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ The Promise

Aight, sit down and open your ears, its my turn. For the people who hate on Eboy day in and day out, get off. LeBron was and is a douche, but I can still kinda see his reason for leaving, even though I feel like that if I had his skills, being as competitve as I am, I would want to beat Kobe on my own, but thats just me. Shout out to Diesels’s huge post earlier today, you people should read that. I have been hating on Bron for the past few days, and will continue, because I lost respect for the guy, its like he has no fire inside him whatsoever. Truth be told, Jordan probably thinks all 3 of these guys are wusses for wanting to play together so they could accumulate rings. I mean it was Bron’s decision, it was up to him, but I still think it was a complete cop-out on his part. I can’t blame Bosh for wanting out of Toronto, who wants to play there anyway? It’s no secret that all 3 of these guys planned this 2 or 3 years in advance, I will agree with what Cp3fan said earlier, he said that LeBron quit because he knew he wasn’t coming back, and it was the truth. No point in taking a chance on an injury that would prevent the move to South Beach. He didn’t decide to go there out of the blue one day, it was an orchestrated plan, and its pathetic. But, don’t hate Eboy because he’s talkin smack about his team, he’s been rollin with Miami since day 1, literally(read his 1:55 P.M. post). Hate on the team itself. They look good on paper, but I’m not a believer. I have said it over and over, and will repeat myself until you people get the picture, the Lakers are the 2-time defending champions, not Miami, so they have to be the favorites. It will be no easy task for the Heat to get by Boston in the East and then unseat the Lakers in the Finals. Wait and see. They haven’t got anything in the bag. It’s a long season, injuries happen, player fallouts happen, you just don’t know how this team will mesh. 3 huge egos, one basketball. I respect you as a poster Eboy, always have, but I can’t help but hate the crap out of LeBron for being such a douche. I will never like the guy again.
