Raptors May Not Help Bosh Out

J.A. Adande has the story: “Wherever Chris Bosh heads next, he’ll likely have to do so on his own — and at a slightly discounted rate. The Toronto Raptors have become increasingly disenchanted with the idea of helping Bosh obtain a maximum contract via a sign-and-trade deal, according to a league source. Because of the higher annual raises and additional year a “home” team can offer its own player, Bosh could make $125.5 million over six years if he re-signed with the Raptors and they moved him elsewhere; he could make $96.1 million over five years by signing outright with another team. The difference in the first five years of the deal would amount to $4 million. Sign-and-trades allow for players to obtain the most money while their old team benefits by at least getting some assets in return. The right combination of players, manageable contracts, draft picks and a trade exception could have enticed the Raptors to accommodate Bosh. The Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks are believed to have submitted trade proposals for Bosh to the Raptors, and apparently none has impressed Toronto. Bosh’s Twitterization of the courting process, which included several tweets of anticipation leading up to the July 1 commencement of free agency, didn’t sit well with the Raptors either, the source said.”

ha ha… well you want to burn your bridges Bosh, I see no need for toronto to let ou have a life raft….

  • Kotsaf

I think the raps should help me and let another Vince Carter situation happen… Let me go for nothing!!!!! Classic raptor rep!!!

  • dcom

yeah that makes sense because all the FAs wanna go to toronto

  • http://thekobebeef.wordpress.com LDR4

Adande makes it sound as if where Bosh goes is his own choice. Oh, Adande, why you gotta play dumb? Bosh has no choice in where he goes. He only has to choose between Wade and James and go where they tell him. Toronto hasnt really seemed interested in a sign and trade at all during FA so this is not really shocking. They knew they were going to lose him all along and there is no way they can legitimately get the same quality in return.

  • Sporting-Lisbon-Blazers

bosh´s been acting like a clown..a 2nd option on a contender clown should I say.

  • T-Money

LDR4: Actually Colangelo was on the radio in Toronto a few weeks ago saying that they would try to get something in return for Bosh. They don’t necessarily want players but trade exception and picks. Now that Bosh is acting like a douche and apperently not communicating at all with the Raps, why would they do him that favor? The whole s+t was based on an amicable split. That is no longer the case. I mean, filming the FA process?!

  • BackInBlack

not a smart move for toronto, if he leaves and they don’t get anything in return the franchise could possibly become a lottery team

  • Oli

@BackInBlack: the raptors ARE a lottery team

  • LA Huey

If Raps can’t get picks, trade exemptions, and/or quality players, they shouldn’t do an S&T.

  • Jake

Why wouldn’t Bosh just sign a 1 year contract….and then max out next year? It’s not like these long term deals are going to mean much after the lockout anyways.

@T-Money,I wouldn’t talk to the Raptors either if they brought me a supporting cast of Sonny Weems,Jarret Jack,Bargnani,Rasho Nesterovic,Reggie Evans,Hedo,Bellinelli, and whoever else and then said”Okay lets make it to the playoffs. Every good move the raptors have made in the past 10 years seems to have been an accident, management is constantly sabotaging the team.Go back and look at the draft picks since Vince Carter(Besides Bosh) and their free-agent signings. The franchise is an absolute Joke.

  • BackInBlack

So true, their coach, the gm, and most of the team has to go if they want to be close to decent.

  • rich

some people dont get a lot of games in tdot but it looks like he has some problems in his right knee guys. it may not bug him a lot now, but 3 years down the road hes in trouble.. so sign that deal now

  • rashado

    co-sign jake.

  • T-Money

the raptors had a good enough team to make the playoffs. the bucks and the bobcats didn’t have more talent than them. max players get their teams to the playoffs even when they suck (e.g., d-wade).

  • matt

rich, i completely agree, i remember another big man, a regular 20/10 guy who was a pacer and blazer, he hurt his knee and no one’s seen him since…

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    09-10 Nets>10-11 Raptors..

  • http://twitter.com/darrellma dma

At most they would get back is Michael Beasley if Bosh ends up in Miami, and nobody wants Beasley nor does Toronto need another guy playing the 4. If he ends up in Chicago, they’d get somebody like James Johnson back since they’re not moving Noah. WHOOPIE! Toronto is effed no matter what so they may as well just let him walk.

  • RV

I hope y’all realize this was from fri, updated sat, refuted sunday and today. Toronto is /was trying to gain leverage from this to get better offers.

  • BackInBlack

wow, this franchise is going to have to prove a lot this off season. I just realized how set back they are. ha, i don’t think that its possible to be as bad as the 09-10 nets boss terry.

    RAPTOR REVENGE!!!!!!!

  • http://www.dimemag.com Anton

Bosh is going to Cleveland via a S&T.
    BOOK IT!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

What? I’d honestly rather get something in return instead of just letting him walk…

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    =) was half-way joking.

  • http://www.nba.com/sun Dacre

You can see wh teams aren’t putting forward great sign and trade offers on the table, because they know that if Toronto wont take anything for Bosh at this time, he’ll just walk and those same teams can get him without giving anything up… PLUS no one is looking for a seachange to Canada so just being left with cap space does very little for the raptors.

I think that if he gets traded they have two teams that would give them good pieces to build around. A good trade would be from San Antonio for Dejuan Blair, Tony parker, and Antonio  Mcdyess. At least I think that would a good fit for the raptors. The best offer that the raptors would be stupid not to take is from the rockets. Their offer  of Ariza, scola and Battier is really the best offer on the table. The raptors are currently looking for spots at the 2 and 3. Battier and Ariza have the  skills to carry the offense for the team, battier has the defense skills that the raptors lack and Ariza has the playoffs and finals experience that the entire franchise has lacked forever. The final guy that the raptors would gain would be Louis Scola, and what a guy he is. He has the ability to average 20 and 10 every night. His basketball skills are amazing, he would replace bosh with his basketball abilities in no time because he basically does the same thing. That would give Toronto an amazing core to build around. I don’t think that San Antonio would be
of bosh’s favorable destination because they really don’t have a championship caliber team anymore. They have their rings and I think that that’s how the veteran core on that team is going to retire as a family. , much respect to the raptors because they rep basketball for all of Canada. They might not be the best team but they die trying.

    Anton is wishing

  • Tony

Im thinking canadian basketball is screwed

  • JoeMaMa

Ed Davis, Sonny Weems, Demar Derozan, Andrea Bargnani, Jarret Jack, Amir Johnson, Jose Calderon, and whoever we get from a S&T from Bosh, if we do. (Notice the No-Hedo) We’ve got young, athletic guys who’ll push the pace and playing exciting basketball. We’ll likely suck this year, but at least we’ve got a future to look forward to.
I think we were going to lose Bosh anyways, even if Hedo worked out and we won 50. Now fire Triano and get a Van Gundy/Casey!!

  • Elias

Haha, I don’t like Bosh, he doesn’t deserve a max contract, he’s good, but no superstar.

  • cool j

I don’t think they should do a sign a sign a trade if the Raps will be stuck in return with a lousy contract and a mediocre player.
The time to trade Bosh was 2 years ago when indication were that he wanted to test the free agent market.
Bosh is not a max guy if can’t get his team to the playoffs!TIME TO MOVE ON…

  • Scottie Pimpin

the ghost of vince carter still haunts…..
