Raptors Willing to Trade Chris Bosh to Cleveland?

ESPN has sources claiming Toronto is ready to pull the trigger on a big trade, and LeBron James is actively involved in the recruiting process. Hmm: “Everything is set for Chris Bosh to join LeBron James in Cleveland. Everything, that is, except Bosh’s approval. The Toronto Raptors have told the Cleveland Cavaliers they will do a sign-and-trade with them for Bosh, according to several league sources. The exact details of the potential trade have not been solidified, but Toronto likely would get Anderson Varejao and/or J.J. Hickson, Delonte West and perhaps Anthony Parker. A draft pick could be involved as well. Both James and Bosh are aware that such a trade is possible, and James has tried to recruit Bosh to the Cavaliers several times in the past few weeks, according to sources. But right now, Bosh remains cold to the idea of playing in Cleveland.”

NBK: I agree with a lot of what you say, but that’s pretty ridiculous buddy. There is a clear

  • rainman10

@ nbk…San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the U.S., but in this context they talk about markets, as in tv markets aka the metropolitan area. San Antonio ranks 30th in the U.S. in metropolitan population at under 2 million. That compares to Columbus, Kansas City, Indianapolis, places like that. The Cleveland area has a million more, places like Miami, Houston, Dallas have over 5 million, Chicago 9 mil and NY and LA about twice as that. So that is what they mean in NBA context when speaking about small and large markets.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

If your about to say a clear difference between position. I understand because of the physical differences between a traditional 2 and 3 in the NBA….but those are matchups. The actual position they play is irrelevant. For instance do you even know what Position Michael Jordan played for chicago in the triangle? because he played the 3. I understand physically there is a difference between 2′s and 3′s (normally) but in terms of the offensive sets there is none. Take it like this, (totally hypothetical) say magic johnson is your “1″ Byron Scott is your “2″ James Worthy is your “3″ Rambis “4″ Jabar “5″ – and your playing against Derrick Rose “1″ Kobe Bryant “2″ LeBron James “3″ Dirk “4″ and Shaq “5″.
For you (the 80′s lakers)does the position your players are listed at matter? are you going to match Byron Scott with Kobe Bryant just because both are 2′s? Will you put Magic on your 1 or 2 because they are both guards? or would you match him up with LeBron have worthy on bryant and scott on rose because those are the best match-ups available to you?

THe position is irrelevant its about the matchups and their positions on the court in the offense.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

@RainMan10 thank you for correcting me. I was wrong and misinformed. The size of SA Market is pretty irrelevant regardless. They were built through the draft not Free Agency

  • ccantrell

i have said absolutely nothing about match-ups lol.. what i am saying is that lebron loves to rebound and he would not get near the boards as a 2 then as he would as a 3.. how many 2s in the L average over 7 boards a game? name one.. he wants to put up monster stats and average as close to a triple double as he possibly acn to solidify his all-around game so therefor moving him to the 2 (which would lower his rebounding stats) is very unlikely to happen

  • Clay

Chris Bosh shouldn’t have pissed off his then current team. In order for him to get the max salary, he needs to do business with Toronto and he hasn’t gone about it in the right way, according to reports.

  • rainman10

@ nbk I agree with you on the way the Spurs have been built. It is a model that should be reproduced more. Teams like Portland, OKC, and Chicago have made it work to an extent the last few years. Personally, regardless of population or market, San Antonio seems more appealing than a city like Cleveland.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Well the size of the city and the nightlife are important factors. lets not be naive and act like the TV market is the only market these guys are worried about. and the point is Ccantrell just because he is listed as a 2 does not mean he will be spending less time rebounding. but its a pointless topic, LeBron is not dumb enough to play on a team that has antawn jamison as his 3. If say Carmelo were his 3 he would play 2, still average around 7 rebounds and 7 assists. how is that possible no 2 guard ever averages 7 rebounds. well before Oscar Robinson no 1 ever averaged 10 rebounds either. Your position doesn’t diminish your ability

  • Clay

LeBron should know that Cleveland isn’t an attractive city and not many want to live there, even if it does come with the opportunity to play with “Him”. If LeBron stays in Cleveland, he will use reasons like how he loves the city, and as he may, the big reason for him staying if it does indeed happen will be because of the money Cleveland can give him.

  • Kap

Why would Toronto make this trade? They don’t get hardly any talent bk or cap space.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

because they get cap space and trade assets instead of nothing

  • ccantrell

if he where a 2 he would not be the same situations to get a rebound as a what a 3 would.. and we both know this will not happen anyway but i am very interested in what will happen to jamison should this sign and trade for bosh go thru.. he wont start because he is a 4 not a 3 (starting him at the 3 is going to make the opposing 3 on the other team the mvp of the game) and if he started at the 4 then bosh would have to play 5 which everyone knows is absolutely not going to happen… so… what happens to jamison?

  • Kap

@nbk…Why not trade out of Conference to Houston or trade for Beasley in Miami? I think this is just one of those ESPN rumors that never really make sense bc Varejeo just signed a 5yr 50mil contract, Hickson is overrated and is only a role player. Do you see sumthn I don’t?

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

    whats so good about Cleveland?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Bosh won’t go to Cleveland. If LeBron is listed as SG it wont change a damn thing other then who on which side of the court he is playing defense. A WING IS A WING – Its not like teams post up against LeBron lol – and nothing happens with Antawn, he plays the 4 for a lottery team in cleveland next year….thats what happens

  • ccantrell

@kap.. which would u rather? trade assets and cap space and actually getting something in return of your franchise player or jus watching him walk away and getting nothing in return?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

No Houston is definately a better option. I think Toronto knows they have no hopes at the playoffs or success in the next 2ish years so they are willing to give bosh to a team they know won’t be able to improve much if any after they make the trade. The salary cap is really going to hinder Cleveland from improving. But essentially I agree with you, this trade for toronto makes no sense compared to what they can get from Houston or even Dallas. BUT its up to Bosh, he holds all the cards in this one, if he wants to go to cleveland over houston then thats what’s gonna happen

  • Kap

@ccantrell…I’m just saying there are better offers on the table than Varejao, Hickson, and Parker.

  • ccantrell

@nbk.. listen dude im not saying he is going to cleveland im just saying what if so stop runnin your mouth.. and i understand what a freakin wing player is regardless of what u say lebrons rebouds numbers will go down if he slides to the 2.. but anyways im askin what if.. if u gna run your mouth then dont even comment back

  • C-Lo_The_Great

    la huey thanks
o yea my mistake idk but i thought he was refering to john

  • ccantrell

@kap.. they cant tell bosh what team they are going to trade him to.. doesnt work that way.. but i see what your saying.. there are much better choices for them but its either do what bosh wants or watch him walk away

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

Look dude if he starts at the 2 that’s what happens. It’s not like he will be quaranteened from the 3..and defensively all players rebound

  • Kap

@ccantrell…I would rather him walk and clear cap space than take that crap back in return. The story just seems like another one of Broussards creations from his imagination. Why not get Mo bk along with Hickson? This trade would be more lopsided than the Gasol trade.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

I lived in Cleveland 4 years and enjoyed it. The only two negatives I have on Cleveland is the weather and the fact that many of it’s old industrial plants and steel plants are closed down creating eye-sores. It has a number of clubs both in the downtown area (flats) as well in each of it’s suburbs and has some great live theare (a big plus if your into that). Other items such as a lot of museums, R&R hall of fame, football hall of fame not too far either, really makes Cleveland a good place to live. Plus the cost of living is more than just reasonable compared to NYC, Chicago, LA or many of the ‘big’ markets. Cleveland is very low when it comes to ‘image’ but I live in LA now and would move back there in a second if I had the opportunity. It’s a great place to raise a family in general. I understand though a 25 year old not wanting to go there because it doesn’t have the image of a bigger city. Some places like LA/Miami offer much better weather, NYC clearly has superior night life (compared to every city pretty much). Bottom line I understand why Bosh (or any other young star with options) wouldn’t want to go to Cleveland – it’s largely based on his perceptions of the city, not necessarily a reality. However, when your young, rich and naive – perception becomes your reality and from that perspective Cleveland wouldn’t be high on most players list.

  • ccantrell

@kap.. true man true.. i wouldnt do it but thats jus how it works

  • ccantrell

defensively all players rebound? well heck what gave that away captian obvious.. go comment someone else stuff

  • JTaylor21

Klav do you even know what ur talking about. You kobe slurpers just say anything to gas the man up without knowning or stating the facts. The man has never taken a pay cut get that straight. The lakers got gasol by strong-arming him from memphis, thats why they have the highest payroll in the L. Kobe is the highest paid player in the league. You guys have an over inflated view of this mans greatness. He was carried to a chip by his teammates, name another star like bron, wade, even dirk who can go 6-24 in a crucial game 7 against the celts and his team still wins. Not one of them. There’s a difference between being the best player (lebron) in the L and being the best player on the best team (kobe). Derrick freaking fisher has even hit more clutch shots in the playoffs than the so called best closer. Kobe has to be the most fortunate superstar in league history. First he pouts and moans then is traded to LA, then shaq arrives and carries him to 3 chips. Shaq avg. 34ppg, 14rpg during those finals run, so he was doing the most lifting. The lakers would have won the rings with t-mac even ray allen. Then shaq leaves because kobe thinks he can carry a team by himself, what happens. the lakers struggled to stay above .500. Then he pouts some more and gets gasol and the magically make the finals in all the years gasol been there. Gasol not kobe is the main reason they have won 2 chips. If kobe had stayed with the team that originally drafted him, he would’ve been another t-mac maybe even worse.

  • peter

I don’t see why NBA players really complain about what city they’re in. They have 4-6 months off each year to live wherever they want and easily the money to have a second/third home wherever they want. During the season they are on the road half the time, so really they are only in their city for a third of the year. During that time they have the money to basically have whatever they want at home.

  • peter

    oh…and JTaylor…you’re an idiot

another TMac? what about when TMac went to the team with the best center in the league and still couldn’t make it out of the first round. Kobe’s had good teams, but that’s what you need to win…yeah Lebron can’t go 6-24 and win and he doesn’t. You need other people with the ability to step up. But don’t act like Kobe is interchangeable with any good perimiter player. He carried the team for a lot of those games in the Shaq era.

  • The D Train

JTaylor21; interesting take. I agree with some of it, but not all. I will say that the arguments are somewhat flawed because these guys don’t operate in a vacuum. If Kobe played his career in Charlotte for the first few years, he’d have put himself in a position to do what Lebron is doing now. We can only gauge the guys on what they do with what their given. Lebron plays with an inferior team and puts up better numbers, and arguably means more to his team (my opinion, but not everyones, obviously). Kobe is a different animal all-together. I really think the 6-24 and the fact that he’s only won titles with a top-notch big-man affects the way we look at him. Of course, we could also note that Jordan only won titles with one of the greatest defender/swing-men ever. So it’s all relative.

  • http://dfsjklf.com Jukai

NBK: Defensive matchups are totally irrelevant here. You’re saying there is no difference between twos and threes in the NBA… that’s not true… You can’t gauge a person’s position on one aspect of the game. You look at many things: the position they stay on the floor, the way they attack the basket, their physical stature, the people they NORMALLY play defense on (Byron Scott WOULD guard Kobe, without an f’ing doubt… who else would guard Kobe?), and their need on the team. I feel people just confuse what the hell a small forward is because a small forward, in the basketball sense, is supposed to be incredibly versatile, that is their function.
I also feel because some teams use abnormal structures (Cleveland and Phoenix nowadays, 90s Bulls, etc.) that they think these positions no longer exist. No, just because Cleveland plays two combo guards and uses their small forward to control the ball more, doesn’t mean classic positioning is dead.
Bottom line, you have to take the player out of his oddball team and put him on another team and think how he’d do. Sure, Cleveland could shuffle the team oddly around and play two small forwards, but if you snatched Lebron out of that scenario and made him play a classic two on another team, how would he do? Pretty bad. Lebron plays point, small forward and power forward fantastically. Center and shooting guard? Not so much.

  • http://dfsjklf.com Jukai

And I watched almost every Cleveland game last year. Lebron played the one and four multiple times during the season. The way he played TOTALLY changed. I was shocked at how his game changed once he was moved to the one. I actually thought the team played better with Lebron playing a true point, instead of having this odd bastardized point forward position they’re playing him in.
    It really is different.
You just have to, you know, watch games.

  • pauleyforthree

I know the ultimate goal is to make money for these franchises not necessarily to win Championships. But in my opinion I think D Wade is the better closer and gives a team with pieces in place and a Number 1 big man like a Bosh or Amare a better chance to win the Ultimate prize than Lebron. I mean he has already done it with a team that in my opinion isn’t any better than the teams Cleveland lost with the last two years. The Guy get’s it done when it matters the most too bad he doesn’t have all the Lebron Hype!

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

Basically ccantrell if you think there is even a possibility of lebron playing the 2 on a team with antawn Jamison as it’s 3 your too ignorant to understand any point that can be made. And to further my point that lebron would still rebound as a 2…before him no forward ever averaged more then 6 assists…..

  • ccantrell

look dude dont call me ignorant ok do not question my understanding of anything that has anything at all to do with the nba.. your so ignorant u keep changing the subject to something im not even talking bout.. your an idiot if u think a 2 and a 3 are the same thing.. go to another website cause im sick of reading your degrading garbage.. u have no clue what u are even talking bout.. i pretty clearly stated jamison would play small foward ok moron.. i also stated that bosh would start at 4 AND LEBRON AT THE 3 NOT JAMISON.. i am simply freakin asking opinions on what everybody (NOT U SO STOP COMMENTING) thinks will happen with jamison.. will he play small foward with bosh at the 4 and bron at the 2? well hell no your an idiot if u think so.. no freakin way would this happen and everyone knows that ok retard.. and if u dont understant that than your too damn ignorant to understand the point that i am making.. wish ignorant, uneducated ppl like u would take their bs to another site

  • ccantrell

@jukai.. thanks bro for helping me show nbk how much of an idiot he is.. nothin but respect for u man u know what your talking bout

  • ccantrell

@nbk.. jus something else to show your ignorance of the nba.. in the 02-03 season kevin garnett (A FOWARD) averaged 6 assists a game.. now whos ignorant.. your just a joke dude go get yourself a new hobby cause this whole basketball things not workig out for ya cause u dont know crap

  • rich

2 guards support the 4 suppots the c and the 3s play 3 because they can do both, they should have some handles some rebounding or defense. well in th L quite a few are either just pylons who shoot or guys to short for 4 and too unskilled with the ball to play 2, but very athletic. an example of this true 3 would be carmelo

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Position is largely based on personell. Pau would be a center if not for Bynum. Someone Dirks size would almost certainly be a center as well. Sometimes it’s hard to determine if Duncan is a PF or center and there is no such position as point forward, although LeBron seems to play it. If you have to give each position a ‘traditional’ defined role. I could see LeBron becoming a 2 while Bosh starts as the 4, Jamison 3, Mo 1 and Shaq/Haywood at the five. Offensively this would change anything about how LeBron plays and defensively LBJ would likely cover whoever is more of a threat between the 2 or 3. If Jamison didn’t start (which he’s mature/classy enough to handle) then LBJ would be a 3 but the talent of the starting line-up would be significantly reduced by starting parker, or moon or another role player that can’t really guard any of the more athletic 2′s and none of the 3′s. LBJ has the physical attributes and athletic ability to be used many ways and dispite what others may say, I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t ‘accept’ being put in as a ’2′. If anything it would add to his so-called legacy as such a great player that he’s been used as a regular starter in multiple roles.

  • ccantrell

@the nupe.. like what u said but the only reason the cavs signed moon was for his d.. they signed parker, not entirely, but greatly do to his willingness to play d also

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Meh. Not a big fan of this, unless Antawn Jamison was involved. on another note, doesn’t Antawn play the same position as Bosh? What? Are they going to play Bosh at the Center? Really? Nice try.

  • Hurricane

Kobe is the G.O.A.T., get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Klav

JTaylor21, so let me get this straight. I did not even comment on this thread yet, and you call me out. Second of all, I guess not only can you not read, you fail to understand the concept of a team game. It takes more than just one guy to win a championship, ASK LEBRON. Kobe’s work ethic in comparison to TMAC is EXACTLY why he’s not severely on a decline. You’re making it seem like Kobe is a p*ssy or something, he played with a fckin broken finger and still kept hitting game winners. Lebron sprains his elbow and “blames it” for a bad game, yet doesn’t cite it when he has a good game. NO FREE AGENT WILL TAKE A PAY CUT DURING THEIR PRIME. *Except Tim Duncan. I also cited that LeBron won’t take a pay cut because of his ambition to be a billionaire, will that ever change? Is winning championships really that important? A true winner is willing to do what it takes to win, even if it means a humbling act like sacrificing salary to create flexibility for signings. I hate this Shaq did everything for 3 championships crap, because other players bailed his ass out multiple times because he couldn’t make free throws at the end of games and was a liability. And about Gasol, LA didnt force the issue, Gasol was b!tching and wanted to be traded, Memphis didnt wanna pay him. Here’s what I said verbatim:

“Even though I’m a Lakers fan, I KNOW Kobe wouldn’t be willin to take a pay cut during his prime.”

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

@niQ: If what’s being reported is true, Bosh’s issue with going to the Cavs is he wants to make sure he is NOT going to have to play Center. What this probably means for the Cavs is that they will have to keep Shaq and/or secure Haywood before Bosh will agree to come to Cleveland. If the issue is just playing center, this is pratically a done deal and LBJ stays with the Cavs. IF this is truly about Bosh not wanting to play in the city of Cleveland, then that’s an entirely different story. However if the Raps will only sign and trade with cleveland, then that’s the only way Bosh can get a ‘true’ max deal. So money may prevail regardless.

  • ConeyIslander

Bosh is looking like reeeeeeaaaaaaaal Aretha Franklin right now!

  • http://dfsjklf.com Jukai

The Nupe: why would Pau, a finesse big man who likes to take midrange, face-up to score and pick-and-roll from the top of the key, be a center in another system?
Look, people just need to understand positioning. Dirk is one of the few TRUE players out there that really does not play like his position.

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

Way to prove you can’t rrad CCantrel I said no forward befofre lebron has averaged MORE then 6 assists. Confusing I can tell, here LeBron was the first forward to average 7 or more assists. I believe wilt chamberlain a center averaged over 7 because he was told he could only score. The point being, hoping your not as dense as you seem, that just because something hasn’t been done in the passed doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future? Do you get that? And my point about position being irrelevant was only meant to shed light that your “position” does not limit your responsibilities on the court. (FE See Scottie Pippen).

  • Mr. Robinson

    Y’all STFU.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

That’s the stupidest f*cking trade ever, the Raptors wouldn’t even get MO WILLIAMS for Chris Bosh? If Colangelo does this he seriously sucks.

  • http://dfsjklf.com Jukai

NBK: Rick Barry averaged 6+ assists five times in his career. Larry Bird did it eight times, and averaged 7+ assists three times.
Lebron was the first to average more than eight.
